Anyone know if WLA is still going on this weekend, and if so, details? Time, events (TS, GS, both?), cost? Nothing posted on IGSA's site yet...

Cascade Slalom Association - Seattle Sunday Session

Thanks to everyone who showed up yesterday for the Cascade Slalom Association Sunday Session. We had our biggest crowd yet with lots of new faces (including the owner of a skate shop who now wants to carry slalom equipment!). The weather was great and we all got lots of runs in on a hybrid course set with 50 cones. The cone spacing on this course varies between 6 and 15 feet with the off-sets ranging from 6 to 36 inches. The speed on this hill is pretty respectable and will surprise you if you are not paying attention. We have permanently marked this course and will use it to see how everyone is progressing from week to week.
Next week we will have some different courses set up, including a true Dual TS with cones 6’ on center. We will run a round of timed qualifying runs and then seed everyone using a simple bracket system. Then we go head to head for some serious racing! Also, we will implement a running points system (that won't penalize you for missing a weekend) and figure out some prizes to give away on a weekly basis.
The coolest thing about these sessions for me is watching how the new guys are tearing it up and pulling down with some really respectable times. Two weeks ago these same guys were not able to make it past the first 8 cones on this course. Way to go guys!
The times below are the fastest times of everyone who wished to have their times recorded. Some guys took three timed runs and others took 20! Thanks Michael for taking the times and giving pointers out to the new and old guys alike!
Dan Hughes - 21.47 Gareth Roe - 21.73 Corey Moi - 22.09 Steve Bettan - 22.87 Aaron Pass - 24.70 Dave Forsyth - 27.37 Ben - 29.60 Wes - 29.72
Spread the word, bring your friends! See you guys all next week! Later Gareth Roe 206/371-9710
PS. Aaron, remember, you have to be on your board when you cross the finish line in order for you to get a time!!

Dan, I think that Carl has to be back in DC by around 4-5. I am not sure if anyone will be riding after 4pm. Glad to hear that Curt will be riding tomorrow. I tested my timer last night at it seems to be working fine. I will bring it and we will set some duel courses. I got some training secrets from unnamed Badlands racer that I think will help us East Coasts guys get faster. If anyone is going to stop by please bring cones.

Seattle Slalom Sunday!

Cascade Slalom Association

(216.160.nnn.nnn)
Hello Everyone! Wow - the week is almost over already and my thoughts are drifting towards thoughts of racing through the cones.
We will be at the same location again this Sunday for more slalom racing. We will set up some informal races this week (at least take times of those who wish so we can see how we compare to one another - this is racing after all!).
We permanently marked the course we set last week as it seems that everyone liked it. We will also set up a tight slalom course with the cones on 6' centers for those of us who want to test out our fast-twitch muscles and wiggle abilities! The last time we did this almost everyone was making it through the course by the end of the day!
It is great to see new faces every week mixed in with the regulars so bring a friend. It is also great to see everyone getting their slalom legs – there has been a significant improvement in everyone’s abilities since we first started this a couple of weeks ago.
We are also getting some recognition for our slaloming activities. Check out the Raincity Skatepark web site for a little blurb about the “Outdoor Psycho Slalom Agents of Destruction.” (not sure what it means...) Anyway, thanks go out to Todd at Raincity for the free press and exposure.
As always, I will have extra slalom boards and slalom equipment to loan out for those of you who don't have any - so no excuses. I will also bring the cones. However, If you have cones, please bring them along so we can set more courses at the same time. I will also bring a camera and maybe the video camera. Lets get some pictures out to everyone showing what a great time we are having.
Location: North Seattle Community College (SE parking lot). Use the entrance off of North 92nd Street. Time: 2:00 pm until it gets dark? Call: Gareth at 206/371-9710 if you have questions or need directions.
I will also have slalom specific wheels (Abec 11), trucks (Seismic, Tracker, Gullwing) and boards (RoeRacing) for sale at very reasonable prices.
See you on Sunday!
Sincerely Gareth Roe Cascade Slalom Association

A big thanks to all who turned out yesterday! There were several new faces and lots of familiar ones. It is great to see some of the speed boarders adapting to slalom so well. Got to remember these are guys who are not used to small boards and loose turny trucks!
We will continue these sessions every Sunday at 2:00 (weather permitting). If we get enough people to show, we can runs some friendly races. Seems like there are already some grudge matches taking place between Aaron and Ben - way to go guys, that's the spirit.
If you are at your local skate shop, let them know all about slalom and what we are doing on Sundays! Invite them out for a good time. Slalom is alive and well in Seattle and growing by the week!
See you all next Sunday! Sincerely, Gareth 206/371-9710 PS. If you know of others who should be on my mailing list, please forward to me an e-mail address and I will make sure they are included.
