Sorry to disagree but most of the reasoning behind starting in the afternoon is the heat.
Saturday's forecast is to be in the mid-90's and drop to the low 70's in the evening.
If anything it should start later, not earlier.

Madison County Gravity Festival Race Information
Dear Racers,
Thanks again to all the athletes, friends, and family that came out to experience Maryhill’s Loops Road. You can find the results from that event our website at www.ediracing.com
The event at Rocks Road promises to be one to remember. With the help of Beagle, EDI has had the full support of a very enthusiastic town council. The race fans in upstate New York are so pumped up for this event, that they are utilizing their “I Love New York” tourism funds to promote this event to the public!
This will be the first qualifier for the Gravity Games, and the first race of the 2003 EDI series. Race course is 1.3 miles, with 400 foot vertical drop, seven turns, with maybe just one breaker and baby smooth pavement.
We will again have onsite registration, but we will need to charge a LATE FEE of $30 for onsite registration. We only accept CASH on site. Sorry no checks or credit cards will be accepted!
The deadline for entries for the Madison County race is August 6th This means your entry must be postmarked no later than August 6th. We will still accept credit card payment over the phone, please be advised that there will be a convenience charge added for this service.
The tentative schedule for the event will be as follows:
Saturday, August 10th 6:30am-8:00am Technical Inspection/Registration 8:00am-8:30am Rider Meeting 8:30am-11:00am Practice for Skateboarding and Gravity Bikes 11:15am-1:30pm Qualifying for Gravity Bikes, Amateur Skateboarding, and Pro Skateboarding 1:45pm-2:15pm Lunch 2:15pm-5:00pm Racing for Gravity Bikes, Amateur Skateboarding, and Pro Skateboarding 5:30pm Award Ceremony

Getting there:
The closest major airport is located in Syracuse, New York, approximately 50 miles from the race course. The alternative is to fly into Buffalo, New York, which is approximately 190 miles from the race course.
SEE REVERSE FOR MAP AND DIRECTIONS
Where to Stay: The county of Eaton has stepped up and helped us secure dorm rooms at the local college. The rooms are $27 per person for the first night, and $20 per person for the remainder of your stay. Although the rooms are not air conditioned, they are the closest accommodations to the hill. The college is staffing these dorms especially for this event, so please book your rooms early. The dorm room s will only be held until Monday, August 5th, and you MUST make your reservations with EDI. Please speak with Steph at EDI to get on a reservations list. Rooms can only be guaranteed with a credit card, and must be paid for in advance.
As always, be prepared with sunscreen, water, and other necessities, as there is not much nearby. If you have any questions, feel free to call me M-F, 8am-4pm at (858) 272-3095. We wish everyone good luck and a safe trip. See you at the races!

I'm all for it Geezer. It'll be good to get the wiggle on right away for me as well. I have things I could do and getting home earlier would be a big help. Of course your predicament is a bit tougher than any I may have.
Any DC Crew guys wanna chime in?

I am faced with a quandry. I want to do the outlaw race, I want to see the excellent Canadian band Sloan at 9:30 club 11 ish, and I need to get my sorry ass on a plane to Germany early the next day. How would folks feel about alternating long board early / short board early every month. UR13 drives all the way down here just to wiggle, and getting done with short board by like 8-9:00 would be a big help. At the track where I race Karts, they move every race 2 position earlier every week, so no one gets stuck getting home at 12 am every week. Also, the set up for the longboard is a lot quicker, and everyone would be fresher for what is for most people, their "main" event. just a serving suggestion. Also. congratulations to all East Coasters representing at LaCosta. Good job.

Is there still an Outlaw Race scheduled for this Saturday night (7/27) at the P&R? Last time I talked to Brian was in Boston and he said it was on. I've seen no conversation or attempts at hyping the event here or elsewhere.
I just need to know if I'm heading up I-95 next Saturday? (Oh, those late afternoon-night events are perfect for me. Travel Saturday morning, race, sleep, drive home Sunday.)
Also, I live nowhere near DC but I'm talking about a DC event. Does that mean I'm taking up all the bandwidth with more DC chatter or is it apropos for me to ask my questions here? Just checking.

DC/DC Downhill & Slalom Race? Sept. 7th

Duane,
There is a DC Outlaw Race scheduled for Sept. 7th, however, the race is Brian Parsons event. I bet Brian is open to discussion on merging the two events. When Brian gets back from La Costa, I'll ring him up about it. Personally, I think it is a good idea to help out Anthony. Maybe Anthony could get his employer to toss in major prizes to entice more of the east coast slalom crowd to come race.

I know the DC crew reads this board so I'm posting this here. The DC Downhill competition is in doubt this year. The race is held on the back entrance to the National Zoo in DC adams morgan neighborhood. I was there last year and can tell you that this road would be dynamite for a balls-out GS race, the bottom portion of the downhill course is super smooth, shady, wide enough for dual, and levels out with a long run-out. I'm not in DC anymore so I am more instigating than I am ofering to get it done. The date is Sept. 7 To me it seems that two races are better than one, and set-up chores could be shared. Also a timing system for both races would be nice. See my post in speedboarding on same topic. See also Jims post there, the Montreal crew would bring racers for both, there's probably 5 out-of-town racers right there without even trying.

Cabbage, Although I'm not all that good of a pool/vert rider, your Beer Can Bashing event sounds very cool and reminds me of a particular session at the legendary Cedar Crest Country Club Ramp back in the 80s! Depending on how good your contestants are, it can also be fun to place some of the cans on top of the coping, or even behind it, where they can only be reached with lapped grinds, lien-to-tails or rock and rolls (and yes, f-side rock 'n' rolls are worth way more points than b-side rock 'n' rolls). I still have photos of that session at Cedar Crest, with the intensity of serious vert skaters focusing on pinpoint landing their lien-to-tails, in the attempt to deliver a particularly punishing and crushing downblow to the target can.

Now that the spirt boys, I like it, we are also planing on having a new event in the pool. Beer can's or some cans on the coping in random spots and the deal is you get one run and have to knock down as many as you can while grinding f/s or b/s, while avoiding the ones you knock into the pool. Oh yeah, while singing Ramones lrycs... Hoping with all you slalom boy's comming, the bank slalom will rock. We need Team fun John Dillon to show up, Team Fun if your out there make it to the beach sun. We also need cones for the bank slalom, I'll bring the duck tape..........If enough of you show up we'll have a longboard espression session, maybe jam format? Cool stoked to see all the support, Last contest they had a bunch of bleachers set up and they were packed with spectators, anyone going to be down fri-sat? I'm sk8ing all weekend and filming for new Gravity DVD to be released around the end of summer, show up so I can get some footage of our scene......sk8 or die.

Ocean Bowl Contest Sunday &7/21/02 Registration 10:30am-12:30pm. Contest Starts 1:00pm (roughly) $20.00 Fee = Skate All Day, T-shirt & Entry Fee Format is yet to be determined and will likely be a consensus of what the skaters want to do. For example, park freestyle and/or pool contest and/or banked slalom.
Hey guys, don’t be so cheap. Road trips aren’t for free. It will cost me some serious bucks to enter the LaCosta Race. A 6 months membership at the Boca Raton Skatepark cost me $50 and my left ACL. Any way, the OC Bowl Contest will be fun and worth the bucks. Compare that to Vans at $12 for a two-hour session. Damn, a T-shirt alone costs $20 buck now a days.
Also don’t forget to check out Exodus while you’re out there. It is on Rt. 50 in Berlin, MD about 20 minutes from the beach.
Ocean Bowl is couple blocks back from the beach down south near the inlet. Ocean Bowl Skate Park 3rd & St. Louis Ave. Ocean City, MD 21842 410.289.BOWL (2695)
Check out some photos of both parks at http://criticalthrash.com/skatespots/skatespots.html
