10am it is...I will be at the hill by 8-8:30am so hopefully I can get both course set and the timer working properly before the 10am start time.
Noah was really fast last Saturday. I am sure his strategy is to show up fresh and smoke everyone who burned themselves out racing longboards in the heat. NH your not fooling anyone:)...Bring Haggy and Troy. I would like to see those guys get some race time in before Da Farm.
See ya Saturday.

No. We'll be there by 11, but my vote is also to stick to BP's schedule and start practice runs at 10.

Yeah, Curt, even I am beginning to re-think my choice to even raise this whole question to gain one hour on the day. I'd still prefer to start earlier, if we could, probably because I'm just the kind of guy that always prefers to start things as soon as possible, and because I hate summertime heat here in the mid-Atlantic more than almost anything.
I'll go with whatever Brian decides, and almost feel like I owe he and everyone else an apology for even bringing up the idea in the first place.
Just curious... Noah, would you be able to make the originally planned 10 a.m. start?

I suggest we stay with Brian's original plan for a 10:00 AM start.
We're going to have to race in mid-day heat either way.
We'll need to make sure we stay hydrated and pace ourselves so that no one has heat related problems.
Senaca Creek is a great venue. See you on Saturday.

Single lane will be great practice for the farm. I'll probably be driving at least 2 other racers from NYC and because of the train schedules, we simply cannot rendezvous in NJ and be in Gaithersburg by 9. But whatever...if the consensus is 9am, cool, we'll be there as soon as we can. Looking forward to a great (hot) day in a great spot with great people. Leavin' at sunset...

Noah, that place IS awesome, although it's a little tight for anything dual. I'm not sure what you're saying here though... are you saying you ARE or ARE NOT in favor of a 9 a.m. start? You're one of the long distance trekkers that we're concerned about, so your opinion matters.
Here's another note to people coming to the Cardinal Picnic Area (The Gathering site) at Seneca Creek State Park... the only thing that the park authorities were less-than-happy about at this year's Gathering was that we elected to park in the field without even using the parking spaces. The reasons for our choice to not use the spaces was obvious, to allow for maximum available paved rolling space. It was an extravagance. This time we need to use the parking spaces to the extent that is possible, before parking in the field. All I can add would be to always pull deep enough into your parking space to have your front wheels on the grass, and the tail of your car as far removed from the road as possible.

Brian, Like I said before, it's not my intention to be organizing a coup, and the most we're likely to gain by going earlier would be about an hour. I still think it's worth gaining that extra hour though. It seems Chris is up for going earlier, and usually KMG comes down the night before. I know if I was the one traveling, I'd prefer to drive-to earlier, even before sunrise; rather than drive later, in the heat, and further subject myself to a later return trip. Let's just keep the suggestion out there and, hopefully, we'll hear more from some of the truly affected people. With the park opening at 8 (and usually a little before then), you could start your longboard practice by nine.
A reminder to everyone planning on attending this weekend's event: Seneca Creek State Park charges $2 per person at the gate, to get into the park. Children may be less. This is a per-entry fee, not a daily fee, so try to bring all of your provisions and supplies in with you on the first entry. (Yeah... I know. That means no burrito trips for lunch!) Sometimes they'll let someone involved with running an event leave and return without paying again, but I wouldn't press 'em too hard on that.

Gravity is putting this event on either Sat or Sunday. $10.00 to enter and all entry fees go to the prize fund. The race starts at 4:20 p.m. Check at "Gravityboard.com", for information. If you find nothing at the web-site, contact the web-master for more information. This is going to be a very fun and exciting event!

J-Town Throwdown

There will be a slalom held within the J-Town Throwdown witch is billed is an Agressive Sports, Music & Arts Festival in downtown Jackson, Mississippi. The funds raised will go to relocate your local skatepark which needs to move from the expensive warehouse they are in now to place they can afford. They don't have funds to move the park, so skaters are coming to help. The street we are using for the race has a nice grade and new surface for tight slalom and the beautiful State Capitol building is the backdrop. It's all happening on Sept. 29th at 1:30 in the afternoon.
For more on the festival go to www.jtownthrowdown.com

I have no problem starting earlier. I was trying to make it easier on Noah and Chris. I think Dave may be driving up from Norfolk. KMG and PA Dan also have long drives to MD. 10am seemed reasonable. But if you guys want to start earlier, then I can start as early as you want.

Well, that's two votes for an early start, although I do not mean to be leading a coup here. It's possible that Brian has other reasons for starting when he is, but if enough people make it ok for him to start earlier, and his only concern was those people, then maybe we can do it.

ur13, the race is during the day, since we have to be out of the park at sunset.
I have rented the facility for the whole day, which begins at 8 a.m. I'd like to suggest to Brian that we start earlier in the day (if the out-of-towners can handle it), so we aren't starting the main event going into the very hottest part of the afternoon. I don't want this suggestion to exclude anyone, but it might make for a bit of a different feel to the race if we start as close to "first thing in the morning" as possible.

WLAC (California Series) Sunday 8-18

Who's afraid of the big bad hill???
WLAC slalom series this sunday!!!
I just spoke to Scott and there will be a winner-takes-all-combined-cashpool (tight & GS combined). Entry fee is $ 25 + $ 20 for the cashpool. If 20 of you coneheads show up that's $ 400!
The longboard event will be 30" min wheelbase (axle to axle) If we decide to pitch in seperately for this event we'll have a cash pool for this event as well.
Here's the deal; this is the race site that put slalom back on the map, folks. Scott is putting a lot of hard work and money of his own into this thing to keep slalom and the WLAC tradition going. If the attendance is low there won't be another WLAC series next year, period!
The WLAC series officially ranks you with the IGSA for the California State Championships. So here's your chance to get up in State rankings as well and come out the State-Champ (even if you're missing out on the FCR series).
The WlAC series is also listed with several search engines (potential sponsors!!!).
John O, Richie, Arab, Chicken, Evans, Bill W, Sean, Beau, Mike G, Todd, Senator, Siali, Howard, Dylan, PD, Ed,
see you sunday, 10am

OK, we have a change of location for this weekends DC Outlaw race.
The race this weekend will be held at Seneca Creek State Park in Gaithersburg MD at the Cardinal picnic area. Otherwise know and “the gathering” site. Since the park closes at sunset the longboard practice will start at 10am and traditional slalom practice will start at 1pm.
This is a great location in that there are restrooms and we can have BBQ grills, coolers etc. So bring your favorite refreshments and plan on grilling up some grub.
I think Chris has the top spot locked down but there are several guys dueling for the #2 position.
Directions are take 270 north from the beltway to exit 10 (Clopper Rd) follow Clopper Rd straight about 1 mile Seneca Creek is on the Left. Follow the signs. Call me if you get lost 703-901-5167. There is a $2 fee per car to enter the park.
This is the link to a map. http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?country=US&address=11950+Clopper+Road&city=Gaithersburg&state=MD&zipcode=&homesubmit.x=0&homesubmit.y=0
