Kona is an East coast event. I think it would be nice to see more West coast events. But all opinions are always biased.

Actually if you look, Jeff placed higher than Yancy in 4 out of 5 events. Don't know how either placed in the banked slalom because they only listed the top 5. Cool to see Hackett listed in there. I think it's great to see a skatepark hosting a longboard contest and bringing back some of the events from the golden age. The Kona contest reminds me of the early Hester Series. It would be nice to more multiple event contests happen at more of the parks, the current street and vert ( meaning halfpipe only ) contests format is getting a bit tired, and the fact that skaters can skate one event and not another, means you don't end up with a true overall winner. Most of these parks have nice bowls or pools and it would be nice to see these being made use of. I think the overall level of skateboarding would be raised if competitors would have to skate in 5-8 events to win the big overall money. This would break down some of the "I'm a (insert discipline) skater only" metality that seems so heavy today and it would raise the skaters ability to really ride. I think it's very telling that Olson won the banked slalom, twenty years past his prime. He is an incredible all-around skater because he skates it "all", Street/halfpipes/pools/parking structures/downhill/slalom/fullpipes etc. and that's what it took in '79 to become the top dawg in a contest series.

Big Props to Yancy Meyer of TVS, who blew everyones doors off! Including Budro. In fact, Jeff congradulated Yancy on his win, before Jeff found out he won. Everyone who was there knew who really won. TVS also upset, the bigger skate companies such as envy, sector 9, bareback, and gravity by placing more guys in the top spots. Congrats TVS. Also congrats to Jeff Budro for his overall ripping.

Here is a link to an article with results on the 2nd Kona Longboard contest. They had a banked slalom event that Steve "Bulky" Olsen won. It's nice to see that the guy who was the master of this event in '79 can still rip it up. They also had a high jump contest. For the kids out there, you skate up to a bar, like a track and field high jump bar, jump off your board, over the bar and land back on your board. The top dawg cleared 58". Congrats to Jeff Budro and Brad Edwards of Gravity who placed in most every event. These guys rip.

Hello out there... I am really excited about the West LA college ride. It has been many years since I have been able to get together with other riders like this. Hopefully it will be a good turn out. I would like to take some pictures of this ride and post them on my page. So if your riding, don't fall... or it may be shown to the whole world (not that the whole world visits my site, but you get the idea) I am hoping not to fall myself... not because of the picture my son will undoubtably snap, but because I don't heal so fast anymore! I am looking forward to meeting you people that I have been communicating with. See you sunday... HR

GRA event?!?!?

To all concerned, I think that I may need to clarify something. The possible get together this weekend at WLAC is NOT, REPEAT NOT, an official GRA event. The Gravity Racer's Assn, was founded by and is organized by the following persons: Perry Fisser Beau Brown Roger Hickey. We have contracted for use of the WLAC site through the Westwood Ski Club via Scott Peer & Willie DeLore. Although Perry & I are both paid members in the Westwood Ski Club, and some members of the Ski club have raced GRA races, there is no other association between the two. No parties other than the three names listed above are entitled to run any event in the name of GRA. I have expressly not given my permission to use the GRA name for any event this weekend. When we started the GRA, it was with very specific ideas on how we wanted events to be run. I think we've done a pretty good job! Without our presence, or guidance at an event, we cannot & will not lend the GRA name to it. I wish no one any ill will, and hope that if an event is run this weekend, that is is both fun AND safe. Realize that it is NOT a GRA event. I and the other two founders of the GRA have both liabilities & reputations at stake, and cannot allow this to go on unclarified. The GRA does plan on having more races this season, even bigger & better than the ones last season(this time I'll bring my board!), and will keep everyone posted. Thanks for your support & understanding in this matter. Sincerely, Beau Brown

The Madison Race is on. The date looks like May 21st, Madison Indiana on the same Hanging Rock race hill as last year's event. This is a last minute salvage operation of this part of the counry's nicest race event. I am now working hand in hand with the appropriate city officials and will be putting this event on myself. There will be an improved flow to the event this year with pit, racing and practice deadlines firmly FIRMLY enforced. There will be a cash ....I SAID A CASH .... purse for the top three finishers in the pro divison. Trophies for Amatuers and Juniors. The amount of the purse is directly related to the money taken from entry fees. This is YOUR money. Nobody is gonna peel any out for themselves. All money taken at the table will be divided for winning slots.
Entry will be at the pits the morning of the event. If you plan on attending this race, I would appreciate an E-mail confirmation for logistical reasons. This event is non-organizational and all entrants will recieve the same treatment as far as entry fees are concerned. READ THAT AS: NO SURPLUS FEE FOR NOT BELONGING TO ANY ORGANIZATION. Not a member? No problem. Pay your entry fee and get ready to race. The same luxurious chase ensemble will be used for getting back to the top between runs, courtesy of Rueff Sign Company.
I will be posting motel/travel information, entry fee information, a race itinerary, directions, maps and a personal invitation to a Hinkle Burger marathon meal, and all the other specs within a couple days, so stay tuned. If you're interested in attending, e-mail me directly. My mail is swamped right now, but I WILL RESPOND. This one's for us, guys.... You asked me to bring back Safari... well here it is.

SKY SPORTS show is probably going ahead in JULY - in WALES and there abouts...anyone interested contact ENTROPY or ME!...sponsorship possibilities have been mentioned...

Red bull south africa was great, there was many pros like George Orton, Dave Rogers, Eric lee,the great swiss rider Roli Hafner, and the south african pro-rider Dallas Oberholzer. Many other big riders were there. The race was quite fast with two big technical hairpins and lots of turns,it was a big but fair fight and we had fun. The track was in the middle of a wood where you could see the ocean through the trees,a very beautiful landscape for a very good and fair event. Congratulations to all the riders and organizers. MANU

This is a message I got from Scott Peer about a practice session at West LA College this weekend. If you have any questions, contact Scott at the address below. Later,
Chris
Let's kick off the Gravity Racers Association 2000 season with a practice at Sophomore Drive behind West LA College on Sunday, March 19 at 11:00 (weather permitting). I'll bring some cones, and we can set slalom, super G, and whatever anyone would like. We'll keep a lane open for bombing on gravity bikes, buttboards, and anything besides luges (sorry, we still have the same insurance that won't allow luges).
Please bring your ideas about dates, locations, and race formats you'd like to see for this season. It would be good to start firming up the calendar, since permits can take a long time to secure, and I've had inquiries from Europeans interested in making a trip to join us. I've listed some possible dates and locations below. All suggestions are welcome!
See you next Sunday!

Next year DT, you need to come up to the Bay to Breakers. They let everything and anything in that race. I have seen people pushing a stage with a rock band, a full bar, with three bartenders working, a dumpster and a ton of other stuff. Have not seen a longboard there, so maybe you can be the first. Just watch out for the naked runners.
