I work 2 minutes from the Gaithersburg Park and Ride, and when I checked it out today, it was unbelievably salty. Like totally white and Dusty. Are we really planning on racing on it? It looks like a slamfest to me...

DC Winter Outlaw Series race #3

DC is still stuck in a deep freeze. But if it is dry and the P&R is clear of salt and sand the Outlaw race is on for this weekend.
Longboard practice will start at 10am on Saturday. Traditional slalom practice will start at noon. Expect single lane for longboards and dual racing for shortboards.
It is going to be very cold and probably windy but its still better than not skating. Hope everyone will make it.
Location is Gaithersburg P&R , email if you need directions.

Is there an "official way" to join LAW? Keep in mind I'm not one to think that war is NEVER necessary, but, without hopping too high on the soap-box, I am openly against the one with Iraq and want to be more informed of the protests and possibly do my part "spread the word."

LBK, I respect your opinion on war, I'm agianst the war with Iraq, But I'm all for a war against terrorism, it just happens to start in Iraq.
Instead of protesting I'll spend my time PRAYING that the men and women of the US services will do the job that needs to be done in hopes of having no more Innocent American Blood spilled on our streets, and that they will all return home safely.

There's going to be a big skatepark expo thing at the San Diego Convention Center on the 28th and 29th. It's supposed to be a good thing to promote skatepark building in general. It will probably be more like a big advertisement for above ground skateparks though. I'll be doing a demo for Skatewave both days. But lots of bigwigs and good goings on are supposed to be happening. Just thought I'd let people know in case they were still in the area after ASR.

As Bush prepares us for war, I am compelled to publicly announce that I am against the war with Iraq. This makes me no less or no more an American, just an American in the greatest country that allows me to voice my dissent even if it is not of popular opinion.
I will be attending the war protests today in Washington DC with a skateboard in hand.

I was wondering if anyone out there would be interested in helping me with info on how to set up a race event here in Portland OR. The idea I have would involve a few diferent events including downhill at Mt tabor park, solom, and a push race. I don't know much about doing this so I just thought I would see what kind of response I get here. If anyone could offer help or info I would greatly appreciate it.

Brian, good point, we'll have a wheelbase requirement to match the 42" length (that g&s in folly beach looked ridiculous)
it's a pretty decent hill, I don't think people will be looking for a short wheelbase

Red Clay,
By not limiting wheelbase racers can use boards that can be pumped up to speed faster.
If you have a big hill where pumping is not necessary to generate max speed and/or if you have a ramp type start then it may be possible that the shorter wheelbase guys would not have an advantage.
Every longboard race I have held the shorter wheelbase boards were clearly faster. But we use a push start and our hills are mellow. If you do not restrict wheelbase you will see alot of longboards redrilled to maximize speed in relation to the hill and course.
In Folly last year several guys were redrilling boards at the side of the course between runs. I personally was racing a G&S Blacktip that was drilled to match the wheelbase on my Turner.

Red Clay - If I'm reading your post correctly, your saying that the course you plan to set will not necessarily be advantageous to riders on shorter wheelbase boards??....if so, COOL!

I don't think I'm going to concern myself with wheelbase requirements as much as setting a course that will be more about getting down the hill in a hurry, and less about cone penalties.
