Feb. 22 the DC Downhill crew will be putting together a little downhill race at: Occoquan Regional Park 9751 Ox Road, Lorton
The course is approximately one mile long. It's straight and has a continuous grade that allows riders to reach around 35 - 40 mph. Besides being a fitness test (we'll be walking back up the hill as there are no cars in the park), the racing will be all about drafting. We hope to have many people in the heats.
Let me know if you are interested.

DC Outlaw Series

DC Winter Outlaw series is back in action after a brief layoff. The excitement for racing is stronger than ever. Even temps in the 30s could not stop the dedicated.
It appears that there were several racers from all over the Mid Atlantic and South East that were suffering from some cabin fever. It is always good to see the guys from far off distances making the trek to DC for an Outlaw race. Gary Saenz from Lynchburg VA, Dave and Arron Morris from Va Beach and Burnes from Va Beach. And to my surprise Wesley Tucker from Charleston SC made the journey north.
Also it was good to see all of the new guys. Anthony, Danny, Seth and Brittany. Anthony and Danny are hardcore, these guys charged hard all day. We had enough young skaters at this race to have an under 18 division.
Mike Ohm took out everyone in the longboard race on the Bozi 36. I could not even get close to him or WesE on my normal longboard ride so in a desperate attempt to make the podium I took Mike’s board from him and was able to get the second place time. WesE charged to third on his homemade weapon.
The hybrid slalom race was a full on duel between Mike and me. Somehow I was able to take the win. Mike second, WesE still holding down third and Aaron Morris taking the 4th place spot.
Aaron has been getting lessons from John Gilmoure and Keith Hollien. I think Aaron is probably in the 8-10 fastest tight slalom racers on the East Coast right now. After the racing was over on Saturday I set a tight course for Aaron and everyone to practice on. I was certain that that silver Mercedes was parked somewhere and John had slipped in while I wasn’t looking. Either that classic Turner Aaron scored from John has some secret mojo in it or Aaron has been studying over Mollica dvds and impersonating John in his bedroon mirror. All I know is Aaron was faster and cleaner than anyone when things got tight.
Outlaw racing in DC is stronger than ever. Everyone is welcome. The next race is on February 7th, location is TBD.

Event Calendar Update Just wanted to let you all know about a simple “month at a glance” calendar which is being hosted on our website: SK8KINGS.COM (go to “NEWS” and then “EVENT CALENDAR”).
I’ve plotted all the upcoming slalom and other events I know about and am making updates regularly. The main goal is to incorporate as many skate-related events as possible into one list/location regardless of discipline. Anyway – it’s a free thing and open to everyone so if you’re planning something and trying to avoid other events – it’s a free resource for you to check. Each listing is basic but can include links to event web pages and registration pages (which I’ve included for everything I know about). Through Feb 4 -- the public (you) can submit events directly if you want. Otherwise – just shoot me an e-mail with the info and I’ll add it.

I apologize for not update everyone sooner about this winters race schedule.
The 3rd race in the DC winter Outlaw series is scheduled for this Saturday January 17th. Due to the unpredictable weather conditions everyone please check this forum for last minute weather updates or location changes.
Right now the race will be held at Fountainhead Park. This is due to the expectation of snow on Thursday and the P&R will more than likely be covered with salt and sand. Also, this spot provides the best wind protection.
The format will be the same as previous DC Outlaw Series races with longboard slalom practice beginning at 10am and traditional slalom racing starting around noon. As most of you know Fountainhead is a single lane course.
For you skaters that have never participated in an Outlaw race before. we have no permission or a permit, skating is at your own risk and pads are optional. However, we have been racing under this format for almost 3 years now and have never had any major problems with park officials, police or the mainstream public. It’s all about having fun and racing.
There is no entry fee.
Winter Schedule. Jan 17. – Fountainhead Park – Longboard practice starts at 10am Feb 7. – Location TBD Feb 28. – Location TBD March 20. – Location TBD
Wes can you post up one of your fancy map links to Fountainhead. If anyone gets lost you can call me on my cell @ 703-901-5167 and I can help you find it.
Also, as everyone knows the weather is very unpredictible. If it is wet is race is canceled. I will update this forum as soon as possible as to the road conditions.

Every May in Central Park you have the Spring race organize by the NYC longboard Association. I missed this year cause it was a washout. They also organize a race called the Broadway bomb in the Fall. There's actually a pretty healthy longboard scene on Long Island (where I live) mainly do to the surf scene out here. There are some hardcore downhillers and sliders who charge the hills on the North Shore (the only place you'll find hills on the Island). NYC has a cool LB scene as well. Someone is always carving central park on a nice day. Check out some of the skate parks in the city and you'll find some longboarders carving up the bowls as well. Later Skater.

Volunteers Needed to Sell Chapter T-shirts at Patagonia Store 12/20/03
We are looking for volunteers to help man a table at the Patagonia store in Georgetown on Saturday starting about 10am. If you are interested, we would like to get a couple of hours out of you on Saturday 12/20/2003. I'll be setting up the table at 10am with our Chapter T-shirts, Surfrider brochures, etc. Send me an e-mail if you can help or just swing on by to volunteer.
If you can't spend much time with us, come on by the store to get your last minute gift, a Surfrider Foundation t-shirt with the Washington DC Capitol Chapter logos on it. These are some cool Surfrider Shirts that you will not get anywhere else but from our Chapter. Check them out at our chapter web page http://www.surfrider.org/capitol/merchandise.htm
Hope to hear from you or see you on Saturday.

Its SSS racing (as in Sunday 21 Dec Slalom in Sydney. I just spoke to Haggy and we will bring our cones and slalom boards to St Marys Cathederal , College st, (next to Hyde Park and the Domain) Sydney City. Nearest Train station is St James or Circular Quay ferry. Start around 4pm onwards. Come one, come all, bring cones and we may even have a bit of a race. The venue is fast paving stones in a square in front of the cathedral with a ramp start(!) due to the sloping architecture. A lot of kids skate here and say its not a bust. It will be good to meet the dudes involved in the Sydney Slalom scene. Free Fibreflex stickers for all!
