Luna Slalom Jam Update

Just dropped in for an update.
Things are going really well as we head into the final weeks before the event.
This is going to be a good one y'all.
We have some great sponsors working with us to make it a great event for eveyone. They are:
Red Bull North America Fondren Foundation SkateMS.com The City Of Jackson Southern Beverage Bahne Skateboards Pleasure Tool Bearings RoeRacing Insect Skates Radikal Trucks Comet Skates Gravity Skates Concrete Wave 3DM Seismic Skate Systems Pocket Pistol Skates Solidskate.com Longskate.com Bozi Longboards ABEC11
What a list...Thanks to all these fine vendors!
We have a great after party lined up. It will be held on the rooftop of the building which is on the top of the race hill. It's a nice place to hang out and has a great view of Jackson. Rooster's Cafe (on the hill) to supply us with plenty of Crawdad-In-A-Cup, Red Beans & Rice, Fried Catfish & Hushpuppies and more great Southern Cuizine. Beer will be provided by Southern Beverage Co.
We have a few bands lined up to play at slow times during the race like between qual rounds and between quals and elim rounds. They are setting up off the course per my request. I do not want this to interfere with the race in any way. On race night, if anyone has a problem with it, let me know and I'll pull the plug.
Many have been asking of lodging. We are still offering a free stay for Saturday night. Please call Cabot Lodge Millsaps www.cabotlodgemillsaps.com and make your reservation. When you do make sure they add you to a list of Luna racers. Please try to consolidate on the rooms. If your coming in alone make a stab at finding a roomate, I would appreciate it. We have a room budget and the race is blowing up this year due to, for one, being a ACSS points race.
And that brings me to another point. Luna Slalom Jam 2004 is the opening event of the American Cup Slalom Series. We are happy to be selected to be part of this venture. Thanks guys!
I am meeting with a viddy-ographer today. He has been asked to put togther a video of the event which will be for sell at the time of registration for something like $20. Copies will be offered to the general public also.
Some have asked about entry fees. There is no need to pay in advance, simply pay when you register. Registration will be at the top of the hill in Rooster's Cafe.
Poster's, T-Shirts and Stickers are at the printers and they rock! Red Bull is planning on having enough posters for everyone to be able to take one home along with your event T-Shirt and a handful of stickers. We ordered 500 stickers and they look cool (even though they have a picture of Nature Boi on them).
I am planning to send out an email next week with some more details, maps and such. Watch for it. If I miss someone on this, please forward it around for me.
Thanks everyone for making this the skate event of the year in Jackson. It ain't a race without racers and we appreciate each one of you.
More later, Ricky Byrd MSGRS

I've got my tickets in hand and will be in the UK for the Longboard festival this May! I'm hoping for good weather. I've been looking forward to skating with the Brits for a long time.
I'll have slider gloves for those who need them. They are reasonablly priced at $49.50 US. I hope to also have my shirts ready with my "CliffSlider" logo for anyone interested. Nothing too expensive so bring a little cash, a huge smile and let's rip it up.
My daughter and another young female friend will be joining me for the trip. We are all looking forward to a great time!
Sincerely, Cliff Coleman

DC WINTER OUTLAW SERIES
|
On 3/14/2004

The last race of the DC Winter Outlaw Series went off in true winter conditions. Cold and windy. But it was dry and there were some of the fastest skaters I know ready to get it on.
It was totally ON!!! One of the heaviest fields ever for an outlaw race with some of the fastest East Coast skaters battling for the top eight positions. Clearly Noah and Vlad were the fastest guys even with a major head wind these guys had the strength to consistently go faster and cleaner. It was great to have Curt Kimbel back racing with us. Curt was unlucky in qualifying and was seeded against Noah in the first elimination race. Mike Ohm was in top form upsetting UR13 in the first round and losing to Noah by just a few tenths in the finals. Ohm easily beat me for 3rd. Aaron Morris qualified with the top skaters but Vlad was just too much for the young lad.
The B Class groups of skaters are the most exciting to watch. The first race was a battle for the last spot between Burnes and Anthony Flis. These guys were so close to one another their first heat was a dead tie. Burns made it into the bracket of eight and was eliminated by Eric (GeezerX). Dave Morris eliminated Wesley Tucker in the first round then Dave went on to loose to Eric. Eric DQed In the first heat and was able to make up the pentalty to make it into the finals. Slappy Maxwell continues to dominate the B class. Slappy has been accused of sandbagging in the past but today that was defiantly not the case. It was great to see Eric make it to the finals, if he could just learn to stay on course.
We had several new racers show up for the longboard GS race today. Father-daughter team Frank and Brittany Scheib appeared to be having a blast. Frank defiantly has done this before and Brittany did great for her first day riding around cones.
This was the last scheduled race of the winter outlaw series. I will post up the point’s results very soon. I also will have a new schedule of races for spring and summer up this week.
Thanks for everyone coming and helping out with the races. Mike and Noah, thanks for setting a great course.

For those that live in the DC area, there is a MONSTER freeway ramp at the Springfield Mixing Bowl construction. This thing is a thousand feet long and rises to over 100 feet in the air, and its been freshly paved with nice, smooth asphalt, and won't be open to traffic for a long while (when that happens fugedaboutit). This ramp is RIPE and PERFECT now!!
This Sunday, March 14, at 7am hardcore skaters are going to converge on this ramp for some quick 'n dirty slalom 'n bombing. Photos will be taken and submitted to Concrete Wave magazine.
If you're game for this snoop 'n poop one-time mega insane skate jam opportunity, please call Mack at 703-370-4800. He's the point man and will provide details. MAKE HISTORY!

Do you guys remember the Argentinian freestyler, who lived in Wash,DC...one of his parents was a diplomat and he attended Brown Univ in Providence, Rhode Island...he was a great freestyler....I think his first name was Henry?! Does anybody remember this skater? I met him while skating home from work in Wash,DC near Dupont Circle....back in the 80s...I forget what year...maybe '85,'86, or '87?

All my proceeds will go to literacy programs as well. If you'd like more information, or would like to donate product to our silent auction, please visit www.skateboardmom.com. Thanks!!!!

I'm currently scheduling slide clinics to be held not just here in the United States, but around the world. The first will hopefully take place in the San Luis Obispo or Morro Bay area in late April, date still to be confirmed. The second clinic will be in the United Kingdom in conjuntion with the Lush longboards Festival. This will take place May 7th, 8th, and 9th. The third clinic is scheduled for Albuquerque, NM, most likely at the Bear, May 29th and 30th. The fourth clinic is to be held a day prior to the US Open Slalom Skateboard Championships. This will take place in August. Dates for this contest might have changed so check the Contest Calendar.
If there are interested parties that would like to have a clinic in your area, contact Cliff Coleman via snail mail at: 31 Norwood, Kensington, CA, USA, 94707.
This will be fun! If you can make it to any of the above mentioned clinics, you should.

OK, Its time to make a decision on this weeks outlaw race. Weather is looking good and everything should be dry.
The race on Saturday will be at the P&R in Gaithersburg. Expect a dual course that is beginner friendly.
Longboard practice will start at 10am and dual racing will start around noon. If anyone needs directions just drop me an email or give me a call 703-901-5167.
I will have a couple of brooms, but if everyone could bring one we can take care of any surface problems in quick order.
See everyone on Saturday.
