Garage Racing RULES!
On 10/13/2004 Miko wrote in from United States  (69.19.nnn.nnn)

Well, we all know who's down for this so far. I'm cool with a variable rate entry. If we did 5 bucks a race, 4-6 racers, maybe 8 races, we'd have $20 bucks x 8 as the potential take. Over $100 bucks. I'm IN!

Amateur Race
On 10/12/2004 Warner wrote in from United States  (216.27.nnn.nnn)

I would like to organize a downhill race in my town. If I can get my towns approval I would like to have it sometime next year. It would probably be an amateur race for charity. But I have no idea on how to organize it. If someone has experience on organizing races, their feedback would be very helpful. I am also trying to see how many out-of-towners would be interested in such a race.

Rt 279 , Bennington Vt
On 10/1/2004 PSR wrote in from United States  (24.53.nnn.nnn)

I have posted up on the Bulletin Board about this set of hills a few days back. We've now got N.E. Outlaw race figured for Sunday, Oct. 3rd, from about 11:30 to 3:00 pm. Fees for this are for purse and coursesetting, split up so that 50% of the pool goes to the winner. I'll be setting a M.B. type Super-G as "the Main", but will also have a loose Hybrid [untimed, for practice, and well off to the side] and am inviting amyone who likes to bomb hills to be there as well, as the hills have room to spare, and two sides to play on. It's easy to Mapquest, just punch in 439 Austin Hill Rd, in Bennington, VT. That puts you about 100 feet from where we'l be parking. Al;ternate parking can be had at the Hannaford Store Plaza, we'll shuttle you in/out. Bring foods and liquids,as this is a highway under development in the hills of NY/VT, and there's maybe one portapotty within a mile of us,and only woods thereafter. The hill is three lanes wide,no cars,New tar,and 4%-5% grade with a smooth runout. The course will be at least 1/3 mile. I've tucked this pup, straight, and it's Fast, but not crazy-fast.Sorryy for the short notice, it didn't come together until the last minute, and besides,it's been MY playground for awhile, but I thought I might share the wealth before this becomes a highway. We'll also likely be having some sort of a 'down-the-hill' timed event,so bring fast, big boards to cruise on. Anyone within 3-4 hrs of Southern VT. should think it over carefully! There won't be another hill quite as wide, smooth, fast and hassle/traffic free in the area for a few Years. Plus, the scenery is awesome, what with foliage just starting to kick in.I'll be watching my e-mail dilligently thru Saturday,so feel free to ask about specifics. Hope you'll be there! Oh,and No Earthquakes or Hurricanes or other disasters nearby to detract from the Sk8ing!!

Anyone local to Irvine or Newport interested in hill bombing late night on a 40 mph hill. A friend and I do this hill very frequently, its smooth, decently long, has little traffic especially at night, and so far we have never had cop problems. We are just trying to rally more people locally. More people on the run is just more fun. E-mail if your interested in late night bloodshred.

All Girl Longboard Session, Fairfax VA
On 9/24/2004 WesE wrote in from United States  (208.59.nnn.nnn)

The final installment of the All Girl Longboard Sessions sponsored by East Coast Board Co in Fairfax Virginia will be September 25th at 1pm.

The DC Outlaw Crew will be lending a hand to Brett Roper, Special Afro Force Member (Afroman Skateboard Team Rider) who is now working for EastCoast Board Co. Brett is the contact point on the All Girl Longboard Sessions this summer.

At last year's All Girl Longboard Session, we took a group of 25 female riders and talked about how to longboard, reviewed how to start on a longboard, how to stop including foot dragging, and then moved on to the basic carve turns. We then split the group into two sub-groups, the total beginners and those that had the basic skateboard skills. By the end of the session, all the girls were carving it up with STYLE!!!! We then held a "for fun" head to head longboard slalom race. This summer should be the same format.

So get your wife, girlfriend, sister, mom or the girl next door and have them sign up now for one of the ECBS All Girl Longboard Skateboard Session. ECBS will be providing loaner longboards and safety pads if you need/want them.

If you would like to know more info visit
http://www.ecboardco.com/girllongboard.htm
or email: brett.r@ecboardco.com

BTW, we are also looking for both men or women to help teach, so post on up here or contact Brett Roper and tell him David "LBK" Riordon and/or WesE sent you.

$100. to race 5 people
On 9/17/2004 Mark Johnson wrote in from United States  (68.122.nnn.nnn)

There are very few Slalom racers, for that matter Downhillers that want to pay $100 to race against 5 racers not to mention, for slalom the surface sucks! If you wait to the last minute to make a decision you will get a repeat of the Mammoth race are friend Scott just tried to put on. Learn from others don’t repeat there mistakes. I would have loved to go to Mammoth Scott . You have to remember we are sk8’s we are not all made of money we have jobs some work weekend and have to get time off and most have to work and plan and save to make it to a race it is a big deal for some to travel so far for so little, little I mean Sk8er’s. I do thank you promoters for putting on races, I love them more than any think and I am so thankful we are able to race. If I had more mula and did not work week ends, I would go to every race I could. I also appreciate all you guys do and the money you put into races. I know there not cheap to put on. Go easy on us cheap downhill, slalom sk8ers and more will come
Slalom guys don’t need hay bails
PS thanks Scott for all you have done

California Championship Series
On 9/13/2004 Scott Peer wrote in from United States  (64.12.nnn.nnn)

We're trying to get West LA College to reverse their tenfold permit price
increase, but most likely they will not budge, and the 2005 California
Championship Slalom Series will be over. For the Mammoth Dual Slalom we had
crisp weather, super pavement, and a nice dual slalom course. We had a
handful of inline slalom racers from as far away as Italy. The awards party
took over a nightclub and was excellent, and in most categories this was a
better event than any at West LA College. However, not one skateboard racer
travelled to the event, and as a result the local skateboarder who set up
the party had no one to race, and the skateboard part of the race was
cancelled. After consistently losing money for 2 years on the slalom races,
with downhill racing paying almost all the bills, and volunteering hundreds
of hours in getting permits and insurance and organizing, IGSA and Westwood
Ski Club's support of skateboard slalom racing is nearing the end. I'd like
to thank those who helped make the events at West LA College such fun. The
non-profit club formula that we put together does not have adequate
popularity with slalom skateboard racers or sponsors to maintain a series. A
similar formula worked well for ski racing for decades, but didn't transfer.
We may have slalom practices or a small race next year depending on how
insurance and permits work out, but we no longer have enough funding or
volunteers to run a slalom series (but we are actively working to continue
the downhill series). If we can get another permit for October or November
we'll have a season finale downhill, and if there is enough interest we'll try to assemble a good-bye slalom race.

Here is a link to a site that has some details and video from last year...
http://www.cora.org/sfgf.html
...looks like 3 days with Friday practice, Sat. qualifying and Sunday racing.

With only 20 people signed up, the organizers should consider doing a slalom-only sign up for $50 or $60 -- to attract slalom skaters who don't want to enter the gnarly 50 mph downhill sh*t.

San Francicso Slalom, Freestyle on Sunday
On 9/9/2004 Rich Sayers wrote in from United States  (64.168.nnn.nnn)

Who is up for a Golden Gate Park slalom and freestyle session this Sunday, Sept. 12th? On Conservatory Drive.

How about catching Stacy Peralta's Riding Giants surf movie at the nearby Balboa theater after the session? Bargain matinee is at 1:45 pm for just $5 and is a double feature with Open Water for anyone who has the time or desire to see both films...
http://www.balboasf.com

We could set up cones for the hybrid course around 9:30 am, then move down the hill about 10:30 or 11 am and do side-by-side tight slalom races where the roller-blader courses are.
While tight slalom is going on, people could also have a freestyle session on the hill or the flat street below. I challenge anyone to a longest handstand contest!

Folks who want to go to the movie could break for lunch at noon or 12:30 then meet at the theater at 1:30 pm.

If you're a for-sure or a maybe, click the email link above to let me know!
