Weird idea

Here's an odd idea I got the other day while cruising about 6 miles in 30 minutes or so. What if a race mimicked a "bicycle" road race. That is, we included flat areas, uphill areas and downhill areas into a race that would take 20-30 minutes to complete. You could have staggered starts. Say 6 racers every 5 minutes. A typical course would be:
Start with a downhill drop slightly less than dump road (40 mph max) maybe a mile long. Follow this with a 3-5 mile push on flatland, have a GS 30 cone 1/4 mile 20 mph zone, a slight uphill push/carry/run (1/2 mile) followed by a euro style corner sliding speed run.
Make the whole course take about 18-20 minutes (package for 1/2 hour TV show).
This could be cool - you could have drafting, endurance, slalom and speed carving in one event.
Now, if we can find a road with these characteristics, get a few million is sponsor money...we can do it.

I like to ride the mostly flat local jogging trail 7 miles one way. It takes around 45 minutes including stopping at drinking fountains twice. Like Chris said, I need to work on pushing switch. It's going to take some work as it feels awkward as hell, but it should keep me from torquing my back out from pushing so long. I usually do 6 miles during lunchtime from work, and 14 miles on Sundays. I ride a 49" G&S Flower Stripe with 70mm Kryptos.

Kurt, As you know I'm already committed to the DC Downhill event that weekend and I'm bummed I can't do both. I can think of three great ways to make the trek easier on anyone who can go. 1. Use the Kwiksplit setups front and back with the tallest/smoothest wheels. 2. Use some Seismic trucks and pump on some of the sections. 3. Practice alternating your push off foot about every 4 - 6 pushes so you can build both legs more evenly and develop a cross country style rythm. This will make a 9 mile course feel more like cruising a parade. It should be a lot of fun. Take some good pictures and remember, don't bogart that file, my friend! p.s. Use a lowered CG board so you don't have to bend your knees that much to push. Efficiency is king in distance.

Sherman Stebbins is a cool streetluging cop in Utah and can be contacted by an email address on his picture pages found at: http://utsgpd.state.ut.us/cgi-bin/gravity.cgi/
There are some killer hills out there and he's always trying to get people out there to check them out. Put on a race out there. "If you build it, they will come..."

On Sunday September 3 there will be giant slalom and super G racing at Canyon Lodge (formerly Warming Hut II) in Mammoth Lakes, California, from 1:00 PM through the afternoon. This will be a fun one for all ability levels of skaters, bikers, and buttboarders. The hill has a long, fast pitch on the upper part, and then levels out to a gentle finish that's great for beginners. It's wide enough to have several parallel courses. It's located at the top of Canyon Blvd at the ski area. There will be T shirts and goodies to hand out at the end.

Sunday August 27 we'll have another free practice on Sophomore Drive at West LA College. As usual, we'll have a course set with cones and optional jumps, and an open lane for speed runs and the tow car. Practice is from 10:30 AM through the mid afternoon.
West LA College is located in Culver City near the 405 and 10 freeways, just southeast of Jefferson and Overland, at 4800 Freshman Drive. We'll be on Sophomore Drive (AKA "the county road") behind the college, which is closed to traffic on Sundays. To get there, continue on Freshman Drive past A Street, around the right bend, and then up the hill, where the name changes to Sophomore Drive. We'll be past the "do not enter" sign, parked at the top of the hill.

Yeah i talked to that mike guy and i bought a board. Really didn't have the cash but this guy lonney could sell ice cubes to eskimos. so all i can think about is riding this board all day and night. It has a nice smooth carve and good stability. I haven't stopped long enough to eat or sleep, but just long enough to write this. Thanx for the point in the right direction Hugh. Man after these powerhouse boards all other boards are just firewood. LOL Keep skating felerz
