I'll be there too. Too much fun last time. Between all of us standing around with the sheriff, I bet we had at least a century of combined experience with skate related law enforcement hassles. 25 for me at least.

Mother nature and the mountain were the big victors at the 2000 IGSA/Westwood Sports Club Giant Slalom. Scattered rain caused a wet course, and thinned the field to the hard core skaters. During practice the field thinned further, as only a few could complete the course on mixed wet and dry pavement. In the best of three run race, Erich van Stralen and Scott Peer alternated fastest times in the inline catagory. Daryl Freeman charged from top to bottom for the skateboard win, although Chris Chaput challenged with the fastest time on a run which was disqualified for missing the second from last cone. After the GS the rain became steady, and the group opted for some slide practice rather than attempting the slalom or tight slalom. One or both of these races will be rescheduled on the November 19 date.
Skateboard: 1. Daryl Freeman 26.715 2. KC Kendred 27.178 3. Richard Carrasco 27.375 4. Roger Jennings 30.456 5. Chris Sturhann 31.037 6. Paul Steiger 35.643 DSQ: Joe DeGenero, Chris Chaput, Darren Lott
Inline: 1. Scott Peer 21.645 2. Erich Van Stralen 22.689 3. Pat Grasch 27.167

I hear it was going to be at the parking lot south of the Plunge, not South Mission Jetty. I guess if you try one spot and it's not there, try the other.

Oh...Really?...
Well, I only just found out about the West LA College thing lastnight. That kinda sucks, cuz I would really like to be there.
Either I am WAY out of the Loop, or nobody is doing anything to promote it.
Sorry for mentioning it....But why isn't GRA involved? At least there is a list with info on how to contact ALL who entered last year AND our EMail addresses!!
I guess I'm just a little peeved about not hearing about it. From my memory, I did pretty well in Nov. I would have liked to show up and do it again, but adult life doesn't allow me to drop everything and go skate anymore.
Have fun, all who do go and compete...I had a blast, you should too.

Hey all,
Just a followup to Todcar's post, a few more details. I'm sure that GRA is *not* involved. Let's not do that whole thing again. ;)
They're doing slalom at West LA College this Sunday, October 29. I had Scott Peer email me the details. Unfortunately, I deleted the message, teach me to clean out my inbox. Anyway, here's the deal as well as I can remember it. The focus this weekend will be skateboards. There will be Giant Slalom in both regular and longboard classes, Tight Slalom (regular and longboard), and I think he mentioned something about some kind of Speed Slalom. Plus, practice for everyone, buttboards, inline, etc.
Things should get underway at about 10:30. Come one, come all. This should be very fun. I swear you'll have a silly grin on your face that will last a week.
P.S. I'm sending this to Scott, so he should be able to fix/clarify anything I messed up.

Don't forget about the races this Sunday. We hear lots of talk about wanting races and dying to compete, well now is your chance. The last I checked, there will be giant slalom and tight slalom. Check the archive for "scott peer" and you should get all the details you need. Let's support Scott and GRA (if they are involved). C'mon you skategeezers, old pros, young kooks, and team riders, REPRESENT!

Dump Road was great. Had a great time. The video at longskate.com is killer. Finally get to see what one of my slides looks like.
Glad that the cop was cool. I saw Officer Poncherello driving up the hill as I was leaving. The spot is too cool to have it closed down because they want to start enforcing the law.
Kaylee, The Flyin' Hawaiian they're talking about here is Darrell Freeman.
We're thinking about hitting it again November 5. A guy, Shawn, from Pennsylvania is going to be out. Mark your calendar. Start begging the wife. Whatever it takes.

When the officer said that he needed a name, I gave him one. It wasn't mine but I gave him one. It was my father's first name and middle initial, a common last name that mine is often confused with, and my real birthday 04-11-61. I appreciate all of those within earshot for not cracking up when I sold him that name.
I had a great time, came straight from the airport with my luge, buttboard, speedboard and slalom board. It's alway nice to drive up the hill and see several cars, tents and skaters around. The brake-boards worked very well. The flyin' Hawaiian was in rare form. Angie was adorable (you go girl) and skatin' with the Gravity boyz. Hugh, DT, Marc, Darryl, Roger, Dave, Chris, Scott, Paul, Jake, Alex and others were all shredding. I couldn't believe that bowl on the side of the road had been there the whole time without having been discovered or ridden until yesterday. I'm bringing a push broom next time for sure.
There was only one thing missing yesterday but I don't think anyone missed it.
The attitude.

Hate to sound like a broken record, but yesterday was one of the best Dump Rd runs I've been to yet.
Big thanks to everyone for coming out with positive attitutes.
Thanks to Todcar for the hook-up on the blanks, and for letting me ride the limo, AND for sharing important construction advice and ideas with me. Can't wait to start construction on my own limo....
Thanks to Marc @ Longskate.com for shooting video and posting it so quick. Very cool. (the Orange Aluminators are awesome!!)
Thanks for HughR for parting with the Sector9 drop-thru. I've already built & ridden it Hugh, it rules.......You did an awesome job.
One of the funniest sights of the whole day was when the cop said, "well, I need to get at least ONE name", and 12 guys turned thier backs and walked away at the same time.
Some of us San Diegans are going up again in 2 weeks on Nov 5.

Dump Road Thanks

I just wanted to drop a quick note and say thanks. What started out as an outing to take my dog for a run in the hills turned out to be a really great day, meeting some great people. I was really stoked when someone zipped past me on a street luge as I pulled onto the dump road. As I continued driving up the hill things just kept getting better. It was really great to see so many different types of boards and riders in one place.
This was unlike anything I have ever seen before, my 2 young sons short board, going to the parks there seems to be allot of funky attitude with some of the skaters. This was completely different. What I saw was a group of really great people, sharing equipment, idea's and in general just having fun enjoying a super day doing the thing that they love to do. It was really great to see.
The only thing I was bummed about was that it was the one weekend a year that my son's spent at there mom's house and didn't get a chance to experience this.
Thanks to everyone Bob in the LandRover
P.S. if you ever need another driver to taxi people up the hill again count me in.
