This next weekend we will have a full moon and that will make for some epic sessions at the dump road. Since there are no city lights near by, the dump is very well lit when there's a full moon. We could eat before then skate. So who's up for it.

no its not a bust, that helicopter was on routine patrol, they fly that route everyday, they saw all our cars and wondered why we were parked illegally. hopefully the compost guy will be into letting us park there. this isnt a shut deal.

Thanks to all who let me video them. As I mentioned to some people today. I sometimes license video as stockfootage for broadcast. If it goes broadcast, and I get a licensing fee, the skater gets a 10 to 15 percent royalty.
Thanks to DT for good mexican food and taking us to the skatepark.
No thanks to "THE MAN" for breaking up the day. Imagine if we actually got a permit, wouldn't that make the dump guys mad :}

The dump road is a bust. A helicopter, 3 squad cars and a motorcycle stormed the hill during a speed run with about 8 riders on the road. I liked it when the cop opened his door into our lane and just about wiped us out. They turned out to be cool but we were shut down none the less. I liked it when John started to slip away and one of the cars went back and scooped him up. Glad he didn't have any warrants. We really need to go through the proper channels and get the road closed. It was fun while it lasted. (Thanks Marc)

Maybe the guys with the bread truck should try to set things right. I wouldn't buy their bread if they're going to get places shut down.

Hugh, I'll take a check if you don't have the cash. DT, thanks.
p.s. I'm bringing a push broom just in case. p.s.s. How tough would it be to bring a "Road Closed" sign on a saw horse style barrier and put it across the right lane after the soccer field entrance? Who'd know?

Here is how i feel and what i know.
The cop said it was the county workers who called in the skateboarding disturbance. They are still angry with the guys with the yellow bread truck. They will probally call the cops again. I have spent hours looking up laws and ordinaces on the cpu and will soon pay a visit to the county clerks to double check: that it is NOT illegal to skateboard, but it is illegal to call the cops for no reason.
As far as the bowl, i would say we should pass on it this time. The owner Doug use to skate back in the clay wheel days and if you didnt notice, he was reading my copy of the concrete wave all last time. I'm sure he will aprove of us skating his little bowl, but i want his permission. It might piss him off if we go on his property without permission - or if someone else is there that's not so cool.
Bottom line is it takes the cops about an hour to arrive, after the dump workers call them, and they will probally do it when they leave.

Guys,
Here is my take on what happened. A couple of months ago there was a little pissing contest between some skaters and dump workers. True, this brought the cops that day.
But this last months (and Chris C. I will take your money on this one) I don't believe it was the dump workers who called. I think it was "Soccer Moms". Remember that there were hundreds of them on the bottom of the second hill. It could be scary to one of these ladies to see luges and speed boards getting so close to their SUV's.
I would suggest NOT riding the second hill. Part of not having the authority called is NOT being seen. That section near the soccer fields is too visable.
As far as the bowl goes... I would suggest talking a walk up to the house and asking permission. Take some cameras and ask if they would mind snapping a couple of pictures. Offer some sodas etc... Maybe some extra pads/equipment and give one of the small boys who sometimes watch a little skating lesson.
I think that a little honey as well as an extended hand is what is required. As well as keeping an extra low key by staying off the bottom of the hill.
My sincere two cents... HR

I get yelled at, fists shooken and good talking to's from cops all the time. why no tickets yet? big smiles. how can anything soooooooooooooooo fun be so bad? exactly. cops giving you a hard time, explain to him how much control you have, how much fun it is and then ask him if he wants to go for a rip. he'll decline, tell you your stupid and send you home.
however, give him something to fight about and usually he's more than willing to battle. no battle, no loser!

A case of beer is a cheap way to "make up" with those who you've pissed off. The best thing would obviously be to not make enemies in the first place. I saw too many great skate places get shut down in the 70's because some dork deceided to mouth off to a cop, or property owner, or local resident. We had a pool that we were able to skate for months because we were cool to the neighbors, and the real estate guy who was selling the property. It finally got shut down because some jerk figured the house looked better with the windows broken out. If someone drives up the road the wrong way, realize that we skaters are only borrowing the road and should feel glad that it's available.
Talk softly and skate a big stick.

I'd bet money it is the city workers and the chain gang they supervise. Although they were driving like idiots, we did make a mistake by voicing our opinions to them and it is still haunting us. If you consider the mindset of dump workers and convicts, a turf war is not a good idea. If we get an opportunity to make amends, we may preserve the use of a really good hill without having to go through all the red tape. Perhaps we could give the Head Dumpster him a six-pack, a carving board and a copy of International Longboarder Magazine and welcome him into the fold. Do you think he'd like a Roughcut?

Hamm,
I agree with you 100%. Although, I don't skate the hill much anymore, we need to prioritize what is important and try not to make too many enimies. Skateboarding is a crime.
Lets clarify something though. I, along with IsaacsEL, was the first to drop into the "bowl" mid last year. I proclaim it the Evo Bowl. hehe.

As I understand it, it was the "city workers" that called and is likely related to an incident a couple of months ago (exchange of words after they where driving like dicks). The pattern to notice is that if the cops arrive, it is an hour or two after the workers exit. The cops there seem to be pretty cool, but they do have their duty if someone complains.
I seriously doubt that it is anything to do with the bowl, especially since the people there where cheering us on.

One more thing about this Sundays Dump Rd run. There seems to be some buzz about skating the newly discovered 'bowl'. Now I'm a guy who likes skating ditches, banks&bowls as much as anyone else. But keep in mind that we've never been run off Dump Rd by cops untill 2 weeks ago, which also was the 1st time the 'bowl' was skated. I don't know if anybody else noticed it, but there is a rather large "No Trespassing" within 40 feet of the 'bowl'. And the cop did say that someone 'complained'. I would like to suggest that guys refrain from skating the bowl untill we know for sure that its OK with the dude that owns the land, or untill later in the afternoon after everyone has gotten they're runs down the hill in.
Don't mean to sound like an old prude, but I just don't want to drive up there and get run off by cops before I've gotten in all my runs down the hill

Thanks guys, thats very cool of you. But then I already knew that the downhill crew is a bunch of very, very cool guys.
Sounds like I'm in the game, I've got an axle to axle wheelbase of 33.5 inches, concave deck, Randal Downhills w/M-80's and of course its all mounted drop-thru style w/cutouts.
At this point, not too worried about being 'aero', just safe. Leathers & full face helment will give me the confidence to go into the full tuck I've been practicing in front of the TV.
Thanks again guys & lets cross our fingers that we don't get rained out............

I have some leathers for you Hamm Bone. They are very protective but not very "aero". They are what I wear when there's a good chance I'll eat it (first run at Barrett Junction I went down twice). I have a couple of helemts you could use. Very protective motorcycle helmets that aren't very aero but will do the job. I could wear a non-aero helmet and bulky leathers also and you could practice getting behind people and drafting. Downhill or Comp II trucks on 40" + deck with Cherry Bombs, Turbos or Kryptos and you're in the game. I'll bring everything I got in the magic bus. I think DT, Golter and Kludy are comin'. We'll take care of you...

My speedboard is ready and I'd like to do some bombing, but my ghetto self have no leathers nor a full-face helment.
Anybody my size(5'11",170#) going this Sunday that might be bringing such gear?? I suppose I could wear jeans & a leather jacket.
Also, anybody know what those Kevlar suits like that in-line/luge guy in the Subaru wagon had at the last Dump run cost compared to leathers?? Sure looked like it would be more comfortable.
Not 100% sure, but I may have my 59" tanker in ridable form by sunday too............

The hill is located in San Juan Capistrano off the Ortega Hwy. San Juan Capistrano is located south of Irvine and north of Oceanside off the I5 freeway. Exit at Ortega Hwy and turn east (right if you are driving north on i5 or left if you are driving south) you will be driving away from the downtown/mission area. You will drive through a residential area for about 1 - 2 miles than you will see soccer/polo fields on the right and the last stop light for 30+ miles, Antonio pkwy / La Pata. Turn right onto La Pata and proceed up the first hill(the fields will still be on the right) once you get to the top the hill goes back down then up again. this is the hill we will be skating, so proceed with caution. You can park at the top.
