The hill is located in San Juan Capistrano off the Ortega Hwy. San Juan Capistrano is located south of Irvine/Mission Viejo and north of Oceanside off the I5 freeway. Exit at Ortega Hwy and turn east (right if you are driving north on i5 or left if you are driving south) you will be driving away from the downtown/mission area. You will see signs stating: Entering Double Fine Zone - dont speed ;) You will drive through a residential area for about 2-3 miles than you will see soccer/polo fields on the right and the last stop light for 30+ miles, Antonio pkwy / La Pata. Turn right onto La Pata and proceed up the first hill(the fields will still be on the right) once you get to the top the hill goes back down then up again. this is the hill we will be skating, so proceed with caution and your lights on high beam. You can park at the top. This session is not organized by ncdsa.com

I will be shooting for 9:30 - 10:00 am. The permits being spoken of would be to shut down the road. This whole thing is a gray area. But there are no "personal" permits to be had. If things go south... then the authorites show up and make us go home! HR

We make this run almost every Tuesday night. Last night had more people than normal. I went with 4 others and there were 8 kids riding there. The session starts at 7:00pm, because of the drive, we usually don't get there until 7:45.

We're doing our Tuesday night at the Brickyard. Any takers? 15min's east of Van's Onterio, main longboard stuff is the bowl and a mini ramp. Last Tuesday night there were 6 people there, that include me and 2 friends. The other three were riding the street course. 7:00pm to 10:00pm session, $5 members, $7.00 non-members. We usually get there at 7:45.

La Costa/Capri GS

By Roger's description, the La Costa GS course is exactly the type of course I'd fly around the world to attend a race on. Being on the East Coast, I feel the need for more than 30-45 days notice, if I'm going to be making multiple trips to attend multiple events, or do some kind of tour; either way I need more like 60-90 days notice. In other words, I can do one short notice trip to race in California, on a lark; or I can take three carefully planned weeks and do an event or two, plus hang for awhile; ...or even take three carefully pre-planned weekend trips. ...IF I could plan all three seperate weekends, well in advance.

La Costa GS
La Costa GS course was set on smooth concrete with a brushed texture perpendicular to fall line, plenty of room on the right to exit course and head back uphill - unlike WestLA you have an easy out. It was not as steep or as fast as WestLA, but the course is equally as challenging and demands your attention to traction.
The beginning starts off with large offsets, first two are easy, third give you a hint of what the course is like demanding a good quick change and a good idea of available traction (many people exited course here on their early attempts). This is followed by some more wide offsets and sliding into an easy center set of cones that teases you into pumping for more speed. Then you are jammed into the most difficult offsets of the course (many/most people lost it here), followed by a tighter section with just a hint of offset for a some pumps (or wiggle to survive) to the finish line
One strategy (mine) was to remember which cone you missed and scrub a little speed on the cone just before it. It was perfect terrain to practice/play with 4 wheel slides and 2 wheel drifts. I just love GS (Giant Sliding) courses ;)
Timing system, homemade from Radio Shack parts by Mike Bream (nice guy), worked well.
Big thanks to Mike and Gravity Boards!

La Costa Giant Slalom

Today was really fun, we ran a mixed giant/tight slalom at Capri school in La Costa. Gravity put it on and their crew was out as well as the T.V.S. guys, Roger and myself came down and in total there were about 15-25 guys. The cops showed up thinking we were destroying the school property, took a look at us, thought it was cool and left. A full timing system was in affect and the smooth concrete run was in affect. All in all we had a lot of fun, went out to stuff crust pizza afterwards and had more fun. Keep your eyes pinned here for more upcoming slalom rides.

Dec 2nd Giant Slalom in San Diego County 3pm-5pm

Saturday from 3-5pm there will be some giant slalom against the clock going on at Capri school in La Costa. There will be a timing system set up, and a small group of skaters out to have some big fun! The course is around 15 - 20 seconds long depending on rider. The hill is very smooth concrete and fairly steep.
Directions
Take the 5 to La Costa (Carlsbad/San Marcos area) and turn away from the ocean. (Left if you were driving south, right if you were driving north). Make a RIGHT at Piraeus (spelling may be a little off) Make your 2nd LEFT at Plato, the road dead ends into a "T" - turn RIGHT road becomes Capri Rd, there will be a school named Capri and the slalom course will be in the parking lot. I hope to see you guys there. (Not an ncdsa.com event)

Aight then, I figured that was what it was like, and I'd definitely be interested in going with y'all if I'm around. Sounds like a good time. Any other times, night rides, day rides, big hills, little hills, traffic, no traffic, I'm down, once I'm home, that is. None of my friends at home are big skaters, so I need to find a crew to ride with. Let me know if anyone's down.

I understand that "How Now Beige Cow" doesn't quite have the same ring to it, but here is the culprit caught on film: http://www.chrischaput.com/images/how_now_cow.jpg. Just to make it a little more interesting, you can play a little "Where's Waldo" with this shot. Enjoy.

Mickey, Not everyone bombs the hill there. Last time I went there were just a few of us (I got there late) and we ran slalom cones at the top and tried different boards. Anyone reading this should understand that this not just a bunch of speedboarders in leathers trying to outdo one another. It's always nice to have the speed boyz around when people want to jump in, but mostly it's just a nice way to check out equipment, try different boards and carve and slide and practice techniques. I usually bring a luge or two and a buttboard. Bring what you got, ride what ya bring, it's all good.
