Just copying this forum on the deliberations, hoping for a full battalion of longboard warriors tomorrow...

Clayton has brought up a good point about traffic. If we skate later, we have the roads to ourselves. I am willing to try and stay up late, we could skate from afternoon into evening, but I'm "gettin a little old for that shit". Bring your lights if you have them. I will bring mine. The moon is also really bright "If" the wind blows the cloud cover off. If anyone has ideas for a good location that works for the afternoon I'd love to hear it. For now I think that meeting at the Skunk is cool. If we can get an idea of who lives where, and who needs a ride, we can make it as painless as possible. I figure that I can be in the city as early as 3pm. Or as late as necessary. Let's try for 3-4pm at Purple Skunk. That way there is time to hang out. I sent my Cell Phone # before but here it is again (***) ***-**** (Edited.) If I have trouble getting my car from the shop, I will call as many of you as possible. In any case I will leave word with Wendel if plans change and I am not there when you show up. Ben & Clayton, Can we find suitable streets with moderate traffic during the day? How about the Presidio? Most all my skating is in the east bay so I am looking to you locals for direction. -Bill
----------------------------------------- ---------------- Ben's response ------------------------------------- -------------------- The knee-jerk responses there are, yes the Presidio, and of, course, Golden Gate Park. GG Park is a little more tame, but it's Closed to traffic Four miles of very mild to must-carve downhill with very little flatland kicking, A pleasant hourlong skate through varied scenery, starts with the Haight and Hippie Hill, ends at the ocean Equipped with a bus route to take you back to the top of the 4-mile hill for $1. There are two parking structures I skate in the 5 blocks between where the bus drops you and where you enter the park Not crawling with cops ready to kick you out; I get cheers from the Man when I'm there.
Presidio is Likely to be colder Emptier Has an excellent Freebord course; about 200 yards of linked roads surrounding Park Police HQ Desolate - no traffic to speak of around PPHQ Well-patrolled; I think an invasion-force assemblage of skaters might be asked to relocate if they're not ticketed first. I jest cain't skate at night tomorrow as I have a long-awaited gig to attend tomorrow night; I need to be back home after dark. Clayton may as well be a paid Sunset skateboarding guide and can I'm sure take the skate into the evening. But, he'll point out, it's really best when the traffic evaporates late at night. I got back from my last skate with him at 1:45 AM and I cut it short. Misterbill, if we want to bring out the Freebord and 22-MPH PowerBoard I need a ride. If you could swing by here at around 3:00 on your way to P.S. it would be great. Or anybody else with a car for that matter. I can otherwise just meet up at Purple Skunk on my motorcycle and skate backpack with loaded Pumpkin. Hey, I don't have Clayton's email address; can you forward this to him? Misterbill - I'll call you tomorrow and see what's up. I'm also going to post this thread on "events" on NCDSA to reel in any other SFers who are jonesing to skate tomorrow.

It's On! Barring any unforeseen circumstances we will meet at Purple Skunk between 3-4pm. We will try to head out by 4. I am waiting for some follow-up on riding locations and traffic. If these present a serious problem(ie. imminent death by automobile) then we may change this to a slightly later evening/night ride. Feel free to bring your toys, there will be at least one trunk to lock them up in, and it's more fun to have a choice of what to ride when you get there. I'll try to bring my mini w/150mm R2s and a 33" Comet slalom as well as my other toys. Unless we post a change of plans, or email/call you, be at the Skunk by 4 at latest. If you need a ride or want to carpool, let us know here.

I wouldn't mind a little afternoon session in the park or so. even surfing would be cool if this wind slows down. my reason for night skating is that i would like to avoid all those cars. the sunset is pretty much traffic free after 10.30 pm and south gate is ok at 11.30pm; so generally the later the better. unfortunately I don't have a car. I live a couple of blocks from skunk and i can easily ride my bicycle to the sunset or so. of course I'd be more than glad for a ride.

OK, It looks like we are gonna have a good turn out up here. The only issue is when to ride. I am good with afternoon or evening times. The only limitation I have is that my car is in the shop today, and I will be picking it up tomorrow. So I have to wait until at least early afternoon(2-3pm). It also seems that Clayton would rather ride in the evening/night(8-10pm). I am OK with this, but I haven't heard back from the rest of the guys yet. I do know that some of us are driving a ways to get to the ride, and may not want to be out too late. Whatever you guys want to do is fine by me. -Bill

Where do you want to skate?
Clayton and I just called off tonight's Sunset District carve due to high winds and the cold. Moraga has the plush pavement.
It was to be the Freebord and Powerboard session for a while, coach on Powerboard, giving tows up the hill, risk-seeking individual on the Freebord.
Clayton also wants to break in his new Mallard.
So, let's figure out where we're going, pick a time, and make it happen.

(I got my wife's permission first so I know I can go;) Anyone else is more than welcome! We would Love to have a dozen or so show up. This would also be a good opp. to put names and faces together. We could meet somewhere like the Skunk and go from there.

Rain?

No worries about the rain here in sunny San Diego... After the false forecasts that the weather guys have been giving, I've all but lost faith in them this season. It was supposed to pour on Sunday, but it didn't. It was supposed to rain on Monday, but it was only partly cloudy. It was supposed to rain yesterday, and it sort of did. Now, today, it actually looks like it might get wet... Wait, wasn't it supposed to start drying up today, though? We must all be thankful for Los Angeles' part in stealing all of our rain and natural disasters... Thx L.A., I appreciate your thoughtfulness.

Does anyone know if the International Longboarder Magazine California Skate Park Tour took place? I was just reading it about it in the magazine, it was supposed to take place March 1st - 5th, but I haven't heard anything about it in these forums. Just wondering if it was cancelled, or if it wasn't if anyone joined in the fun?
Peace
