Wow! Great to see you here. I remember you and Tony Jetton at the ARA races in Colorado. I also remember coming out to California during the spring of '78 and you were working at an indoor skatepark in Mission Viejo. When I showed up with the E.H. Wallboards crew from Colorado you rolled out the red carpet for us!

The shot of Piercy jumping the bunnies was taken in '77 or '78 by Glen Friedman. Why do you think it's sad that the stunt was used in LODT? From time to time Bobby hung out and skated with Stacy and some of the other Z-Boys.
Piercy is also one of the very few to score back to back covers of "Skateboarder Magazine", and he may have been the last cover shot showing a skater with all four wheels on the ground.

Anybody know when that photo of BP jumping the playboy bunnies came out in Skateboarder magazine? Sad to say that was used in Lords of Dogtown as one of the Z-Boy stunts.

The Health Bowl was a legendary pool in Arvada that was skated heavily from '75 to 80 or 81 until it was bulldozed and ironically a Police Station was built on it's site (yep, right by the 36 and Sheridan Blvd.)Peralta, Piercy, Ryan, George Orton, The Badlands Boys (Ransom, Evans,Kimball,Hawks) and a few noteworthy others along with Colorado's finest tore that place up! The interest in the Health Bowl was lost when Hi-Roller's pool was built in '78.
I would be interested in corresponding with the Surf Colorado bunch that remeber the the Health Bowl! Shoot me an e-mail! Loads of stories!

I was 20 or 21 and still living in San Diego. I had my own business and a buddy of my brothers stopped by. He asked "didn't you know Bobby Piercy?" He went on to relay this story. Piercy had become somewhat of a major player in the coke trade around SD. He and some buddies took a road trip over to Arizona to a house on Lake Havasu, I believe. The story goes that they partied HARD and in the middle of the night BP decided to take a swim and walked down to the boat dock. Then he dove in, hit bottom and broke his neck.
This guy was pretty connected to all of that scene and I have no reason to doubt the story. It was told to me pretty close to when it happened too. Now since then I have seen posts that people have looked for news reports in the area, zero. Someone once posted about looking into a death certificate, zero.
The freakiest thing I ever read was a couple of years ago. Henry Hester posted about a dream he had one night. He was skating I believe and Piercy walked up out of the blue. Gaunt and rough looking, he told H that he had gone into hiding in order to avoid the Columbians that wanted to kill him over coke debt. Plausable? Sure is, I believe in the truth in dreams.
The last time I saw Piercy was a good one. I'll save that for another morning when it's raining and I can't practice.

I was either 16 or 17 when I was skating Kona Skatepark on a weekday morning and I met up with a skater who was wearing yellow leather pants with MIKE stitched onto the back of his waistline. I thought he was an MX'er who'd gotten lost. Anyway, he was skating the big bowl and the monolith wall attached to it.
He introduced himself to me and seemed to be a very affable person. His skating skills were far superior to mine but what I remember is he took the time to say hello and to talk skateboarding for a few minutes. It was the beginning for me of realizing that I was a part of a community.
Many years have passed since that day but, I have always cherished the memory more when I began to realize that I got to spend a few minutes with Mike Williams.
At 48, it's a great simple memory to share.

He and Mike Williams came to Berkeley to race in a Banked Slalom race. I still have pictures of Piercy or Williams, I'm not sure which one, board gone, laying on his back, half off of the end of the ramp. It was towards the end of the 70s and I didn't see either of them again.

I think the last time I saw Piercy might have been at the 1979 Skateboarder Magazine Poll Banquet.
That was a cool gathering of skaters...
My brother Richy and I were nominated that year - for 'Best Freestyle Skater/Amateur' ( Richy ) and 'Best Pro Freestyle Skater' ( Me )
( you got to remember - I'm 11 years older than Richy )
Great times ...
Pat Chewning -
Peter Camann asked my brothers and I to come to Colorado and race in the "Another Roadside Attraction" races - -but my bros. and I were doing way too many Pepsi Skate Demo's to get away and race in that series.
-Please say Hi to Peter Camann and Randy Smith for me - -if you see them !
Take care,

The chick was the older sister. Remembering seeing them somewhere when I was a young'un.
It's pretty funny when one of their few songs on the hard disc comes up in the shuffle to see some of the people (parents)looking around like whooah!
Some of the old stuff causes such a variety of fffffffffffunies they are worth keeping alive.
