I was out just messing around the nieghborhood, when I went for an axle stall on my 41" sector9,when a pssing motorist decided to yell "HEY",well i was in mid flight when this happened.Being caught off gaurd i over shot the edge of the curb and landed on the sidewalk unintentionaly, my board sliding out from underneath me.I landed flat on my back.HE then said"sorry" waited a couple of seconds then asked me "Where is Mission blvd?" still on my back i painfully rose my arm and pointed. At least he said thanks before driving off.

Keith,
Sorry to hear about your mishap. Get well soon, buddy, and keep up those safety posts! Who knows, maybe some day our two safety forums will rise from the bottom of the Page Views ratings.

Well the safety preacher has returned. Can you all guess why I haven't posted on this board in a while. Let me explain-Luge going 63 mph, sharp turn, riders around me, bad line through turn, all equals guardrail contact. Both ankles, both heels and arm and a leg (in three places) all broken. We all know the dangers of our sports but we still do them (yes I will ride again). Even with the best of safety equipment we still get hurt. It happens. Whatever you are racing-cars, motorcycles, luges, Sherman tanks. Whatever. The right speed and place can kill you as it did with Jeanne's son. I have a four year old son that I love to come home to every night. Also to a wife that loves me very much despite my "psycho sports" (those are her words). To Jeanne my condolences to all of your family members. Jeanne's postings should do more than any amount of postings that I make. Listen to the words of a mother that has lost a child to this sport and then think about the next time you go down a hill with no protection. It's not cool it's not macho it's just dumb. Wear that protective gear even if it doesn't look cool. Better to be not cool and alive then dead. On a personal note I am out of the wheelchair and using crutches arm is good enough that I can do that now. Wheelchairs suck bad dudes. Plus when you're 34 (like I am) things don't heal as fast as they used too. Slow going but I'll get back to it.
Later

Some advice for anyone using sliding gloves: DON'T SLIDE ACROSS THOSE DOUBLE YELLOW DOTS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD!!! I had a bad experience with those little bastards. The plate on my glove caught on a dot and I fell off. Fortunately, I only scraped up my elbow and sorta pulled my shoulder muscle. Happy skating! Peter

Heres my most stupid crash to date:
I was skating last weekend when the "plate/disc" on my sliding glove came off. On my next run down the hill i kind of forgot about the whole glove not sliding without the disc thing and went to do a power slide to the left (my heel side) when i placed my hand (and weight) down my glove kind of hooked or caught in the ground which made me fall on my butt, except when i hit the ground i immediatly started in a front flip and next landed upside down on my shoulder blade then continued to tumble down the hill for a few more feet. I was going in the upper 20s and only got a small cut on my elbow. i wish that was all i got. I sprained my pinky finger, my left palm was all swollen from hitting the ground, i bruised my left shoulder blade and my whole mid to lower back was sore.
Moral of my stupid story: dont try and slide without your gloves in full working order and ALWAYS wear a helmet!

Jesse,
You lied to us! Why you little devil! You had me all worked up over that story. Well, at least we know the truth. It sounded to strange to be true. Well, stop that lying and start having some "real" fun. Be safe and take care.

When you fall on either a street luge or a skate if you collide with an object such as a curb, hay bail, etc. at high speeds you have a pretty good chance of breaking something. especially if you dont know how to crash correctly. I forget who but one of the streetlugers broke both of their legs hitting a hay bail.

Gary Hardwick holds the standup speed record at 63.559mph He was using a terminal velocity streetboard with an aluminum chasis, randal comp2, an old pair of swiss bones and year old set of hyper super mundos that are 70mm. It goes to show how much a good tuck will do for your speed.

Everyone says helmets are really goofey and stuff but I just picked up my new one. It's a shiny red colour and it's really good if your worried about cars not seeing you. (they can't miss ya with this baby on!!!) Already just skating home I've had 2 people ask me where I got it!!!Do your brain a favour and put one on!

I really dont mind reading these posts, but when I start hearing all this bunk about bombing hills at 65MPH I might as well be reading fairy tales. Come on people, give us something to work with. Tell us realistic stories that all of us can apply to our everyday longboarding outings. We are all in this together. Keep it cool and keep the stories straight.
Regards,

Hey jesse mccubbins,
can you tell me what equipment you used while your "World Record" Downhill? The Worldrecord (63.55 I think) was done with exellent equipment, for example Randal COMP2 trucks. I don't believe you!!
