has anyone tried cutting down their randal DHs or 180s?? i am thinking of cutting down a set to match my 4.3"bennett vector as a back truck.
i know someone knows something about this!!!hahahhaa.please post any ideas

I have started making boards, mainly minis due to flex issues. The boards are nothing spectacular, but the shapes are different, the artwork is unique on every board.

Ok well im sittin at home bitching about the bus and how much it costs right.....so i figure i can get my hands on a snowboard real easy but i cant figure out how to strap some wheels.....(preferrably off roadies)(big studds) onto it without hindering the turning capabilities?????what do i do...i want big ones so i go offroad but i cant set it up so i still have decent turning.

what type of hardwood do you have? you could cut it into strips shaped with a kicktail and make a vlam. http://www_silverfishlongboarding_com/forum/showthread.php?t=39575 check out the first entry the "24 inch mini kick"

i would same yourself the trouble and go to you local specialty lumber supplier get some baltic birch and make a board that way. itll be much easier than trying to steam somethign, it will be lighter, wont split along a grain line, and should only cost you around 10 a board. use the search and check out silverfishlongboarding.com theres plenty of information to be found. oh yeah and this is probably to most informative website for building your first build http://users.pandora.be/Toothless/Toothless/pages/instructions/instructions_index.html

it will be pretty hard to bend hardwood into a kicktail, unless you steam it, but i dont know whether that would work or not. but you should try glueing a piece of wood where you want the kick and sand it on an angle to get the kick. much trickier than laminating plywood.

Mountain board trucks, by and large, are burlier than usual skateboard trucks, particularly in the axles. 10mm axle diameter is common, some even using 1/2" [12mm] axles. Tacking a welded bar-axle onto a normal truck would be unwise, first because the axle welds won't have much surface contact, and because you're still anchoring everything to a 5/16" axle, which becomes the 'weak link' here. You're much better off going and getting trucks made for mountainboarding, or at the least, a 10mm axle truck (like Landyatchz's BEAR truck). Get some body armor while you're at it, too!

its not really an off road board just on road board something to get around on i only weigh 155 and it is half inch bar so i think it will hold me i will find out i guess this is gona be built from scratch for wheels im using 6" solid rubber lawnmower wheels with steel rims and kick ass barings so its getting put togher 2 nite so ill keep things updated so peace

no that wont work, you would need the right steel for an axle(cromoly??) and it is likely that the axle would bend.
might work with a wide truck, eg indy 215

Ok i am getting ready to build my first mountain board. I want to know if i could just take a normal skate truck and take a piece of threaded bar stock and line it up on the bottom of the truck, and tack it with the welder.

drill from the bottom of the board so your holes are accurate and fit through the trucks nicely. using masking tape on the wod and putting another piece of wood behind it to drill into can also help prevent splintering.

the way i always drill my holes starts before i even bend the wood. I always start with finding the centerline of the piece of wood i'm using, take half my template trace it on both sides of the centerline, find how spread apart I want my trucks, find the center of the trucks, place it directly on the center of the of the two lines and mark the middle of the truck holes...you could even just make a simple template by tracing your trucks on some oaktag and using that, that might make finding the center of the truck holes a bit easier.....there's probably a better way of doing it, but i've made a bunch of boards and that technique has never let me down...

i just finished my first drop thru on a small 34" pin tail made of soild oak. i didnt really like the board cause it was so heavy so i was gonna cut it down and make a retro banana board. but ive been wanting to do a drop thru on another deck but i thought "id get some practice on this board", cause its not my favorite. ill post some pictures. the nose cut out is nice and neat but the back cut came out all sh*tty, needs some sanding. and the hole in the back is a little big. but im only 14 and can learn alot before i do my next drop thru!!!!!!!!!!!!

yeah i got the birch one, i wanted some flex. i know birch is alot softer than maple but i thought i saw chaput do a drop thru set up on one on his old site, i remeber seeing it like a year ago. but thanks for the advice

not totally sure but a sector pintail is a bit narrow, and thin ,for a drop through. It would probabely snap,maybe not right away but posibly at a very inconvenient time.They make a couple pintails, the birch no;the maple,maybe.

i have a sector9 pintail nd its a great board but i wouldnt mind mod-ing it.
i want to do a drop thru on the back and leave the front stock. the reason for leaving the front alone is cause the pintail has some nose and i like to do some nose manuals to show off to the girlies J/K. but i do like nose manualing. how would these set up effect the ride? more stable? a little lower? better turning radius? im not sure so im asking you..........

Thanks for all the info. My wood is 5/8" thick. I've made 4 boards from this sheet of plywood and was just trying to do something different than I've done already. If anybody likes my skateboard pendants I can make any shape or metal
