Oh Hugh. MO for the Bennetts is in the mail in the AM ["yeah right" H says]. I'm also leaving feedback for ya. Feel free to leave it at your convenience as well. Looking forward to them.
And thanks for the well wishes guys. I know it all seems mushy, but happiness is better shared.
And Hugh. I won't bug you for the trucks. They're in good hands now.

Can You Feel The Love?

This is how you heal my friends. Love has a way of taking the sharpest pain and making it feel like a soft touch.
Thank you Lora, for thinking enough of me to buy this skater. To say I am happy would unserstate how I truly feel.
If you guys have ever read some of our previous posts, you know Lora and I are going to be married next year. This lady is special to me for many reasons, and taking an interest in my skating is one reason she is so special.
Even after I took my crash 3 weeks ago and said I was out, she said that I shouldn't be hasty. That I should think it through before I make a big decision.
She was scared that I was hurt bad. I was hurt bad, and yet she still buys me this skater as a way of saying she understands how I love this sport and all the people who love it with me.
I hope you guys have someone as special in your lives. If you do, grab her tonight and tell her so. Never let the little shit make you think any less of each other. Always make up.
And most importantly.
If you're single. She's out there. I found her.
Thank you Lora. I love you.

Duane, LOL, I can probably find some pants in a vintage clothing store, but I don't know about those shoes... size could be a real issue.

This pic on the left is BoBo with his very first skater, the "Black Knight"... long ago worn out and discarded. |
In one of BoBo's posts 10/23 on the Trucks Review board, I saw this... "I will never break my Knucklehead again, honey, I swear". Thinking he could use a little cheering up after his accident, I found a "Black Knight" skater on eBay, and last night... I WON IT!!!
Don't you think this makes the perfect "Get Well" gift for BoBo (who is practically perfect again)?

The 651s were a lighter, more responsive version of the 650s, and roughly the same width as a Fulltrack. They came out in the mid 70s ('76?). I don't know if they're considered collectable or valuable now, but back in the 70s they went for about half the price that Trackers did. I used them on a few boards back then, but mainly for vert (but they didn't hold up too well for that, and I switched to Trackers). From my foggy recollections, I would think they'd make a good slalom truck (lightweight and responsive). I never really tried them for slalom, but I've just acquired a set on eBay, and they'll be getting some test runs on my new Comet...

Glen - e-mail me. I have Line on a ditch in So.OC if you're interested and there are no serpentine Security guards like the one in Burbank. I agree - It's be nice to find some bowls /wo coping to get some REAL lipsliding in. I am looking for my Krypto reds right now.

That cover shot of Greg's lipslide was the best. The stuff the new school calls lipslides should be called frontside board slides. Of course all the ramps and skateparks have coping which makes a non-ollie lipslide impossible, but it is still one of the most stylish tricks. I vote for some mini ramps and bowls to have no coping.

OK now you're gettin pushy...My fogged skate memory can't quite pin down these dates. I do remember riding raised letter kryp's in spring '76 as the Krypto guys were doling them out at the local contests. I don't think they were marketed or very popular outside of Colorado until late '76 and then boomed onto the scene in '77 with all the slalom racing. Then the Greg Weaver shot on the cover of Skateboarder of him doing lipslides on 70 reds at the Buena Park halfpipe was the boom for Krypto. I will investigate further.....

Here's an interesting dilemma ,between 68 or so and 74 there were no Skateboarder Mags ,i remember seeing Val Surf ads in Surfer Mag' maybe in 74 and i got my Rollersports cataloge out of an ad i saw in "Boys Life" that was part of my extremely short Boy Scout membership going back to 73 (i think) i don't know if ther were any rollerskate mags were you might find Kryptonic ads from the real early 70's even the 60's as they claim, rollerskate wheels were skateboard wheels so no skateboard specific wheels would have been made before 75, When the second volume of "Skateboarders" started, small black and white ads.
