That was my 2nd slalom board after the Quicksilver and before the Turner. Still own them all. Need something for the newbies to try.

I'm trying to get it clear who actually made Wings wheels from back in the day. I have some Tangerine ones, and some of the later Lime Conical ones.
I have seen old ads by Belair with the Wings in Tangerine and lime. Also ads from Gullwing with the same wheels.
Did Belair make them for Gullwing? Was it a joint thing?
I have an add from an Action Now showing the Wing 3 and it has no manufacturer name at all, other than Wings.
Shogo used to ride them, and he was Gullwing sponsored, so I guess there was a tie in there.
Anyone shed any light onto this?
Peter

Life being sold for a Marriage on e-bay

My wife has got to be one of the coolest out there. She has been fully behind my skateboarding even though I'm at the ripe age of 38. Now a good buddy of mine, his wife has only seen him skate twice and she has never been supportive of his need to skateboard. Well, they are split up now. I wish them all the help in the world but I don't think the marriage counselor knows how to get them past the skateboard issue. It might not sound like much, but skateboarding can be the downfall of a marriage. If my wife would have not been supportive of my skateboarding, surfing and snowboarding before while we were dating, then I would have never married her. Skateboarding is a lifestyle even at my age. No spouse should force you to change your lifestyle when it comes to something healthy like skateboarding, surfing or snowboarding. For that e-bay guy, put some of her freaking crap on e-bay to see if can give up something dear to her for your marriage. Hell, you had better put up your in-laws on e-bay to start with otherwise that is all you going to see when you sell of your skateboard equipment. Sucks to be you!

i think it is really too late. when i got married in 1985 i laid the rules about surfing and skating, otherwise i basically do what she tells me. 16 years later her mother still thinks i'm irresponsible and i'm still skating. heck i even got to hang my Hobie Majaraja (trackers and R/R 4's) in a back bedroom. buy up the guys stuff and he can figure what she about in a few years.

'Now I'm getting married and my wife says it's got to go!'
brothers on ncdsa.com, we should all band together at this moment and save this guy's soul! every fat (or skinny, no prejudice here!), over 30 married skater on the list (esp those like me who have to get new skate purchases sent to work to ensure the wife never finds out!!) must mail this poor disallusioned fool and persuade - nay urge - him to withdraw the auction immediatly and realise the error of his ways!
send that mail now and bask in the warm knowledge that you did all you could to save the soul of a fallen brother, you know it makes sense!!!

Glen,
Find me at the La Costa race. Thank you for the videos also. The little trivia contest was a lot of fun. I'll have to think up an easier one in the future. Before I do, I'll have to probably get a new monitor.
I have a friend that is going to try and visit at La Costa, his name is Karl Weber, he was on the old Hobie Team with me in the 60s.

thanks Cliff,
that's great info. I had asked a friend at work, Tenny Sebastion, who claims to have been on the Makaha team in 63 or so, about the shoes and stuff. He was the one who thought that it was Purcell's. I think the late 60's - now has pretty much mangled his memory though.:-).
It's not much, but for making the contest, you win the last "Hamm Slam" video and the first "This Is Not Skateboarding" video. I hope to have the latter at La Costa.

Sorry for the suspenceful delay. My computor screen went black and until now I have been away from any access to the web.
My contest had 9 questions regarding 1960s and one 70s trivia questions. They were tough questions and if you didn't have old Quarterly Skateboarder magazines to research you probably wouldn't be able to answer the questions.
THE WINNER OF THE CONTEST IS, Glen with three questions of 9 answered correctly. I'll have the board for you at La Costa.
He was followed by Boardman with one correct answer and then by Jack Smith with half a question answered correctly.
CORRECT ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS: 1. "Nash" made the official helmet of the 1st National Skateboard Championships. 2. Randolf Rubber Co., made the official sneaker of the 1st National Skateboard Championship. It was called the "Randy 720". 3. A 27" Hobie spoon fiberglass board cost $16.95 when new in 1965. 4. A 28" G&S flexible board cost $19.95 when new in 1965. 5.The oldest competitor at the 1st National Skateboard Championships was, "John Severson", who competed at the age of 31. 6. The President of the National Skateboard Championship Association was, "William D. Woods". 7. A charter membership in the National Skateboard Championships Association cost $2.50 in 1965. 8. The name of the skater who appeared on the television show To Tell the Truth in 1965 was, "John Freis". The names of the two skaters who appeared on the same show in the year 2001 are, Jack Smith and Pamela Zoolalian. 9. The manager of the Maharaja Team in 1975 was, "Mike Rector".
Thanks to those that entered. Cliff

I did a little research and Converse (the maker of Jack Purcell's) is my guess. Vans didn't come along until 1966.

I know it's after the deadline Cliff but I can only guess Vans. If not Vans, Converse. I would have thought Vans to be too small at the time to sponsor a Wide World of Sports covered event and Converse too big to have cared about skateboarding.

I met an old friend from 20 yrs back and we got to talking about the CAL 240. All the kids in my nieghborhood had those , except me, I had a Sunset( apex trucks, universal big grabbers). You couldn't get real skateboards here because we seldom had the mags and never hads the shops. So we rode that stuff to start. Now I'm looking for one. NOS would be cool, but I'll take what ever. I also have to trade: 1 small pivot Tracker baseplate and 2 FAKE Tracker small pivot mid track hangers. I say 'fake' because the axles don't have a dimple on the end. The base plate is real, it has a dimple on the k-pin.

Act now on that Gull Wing setup! it may be worth it alone for the hardware....I think a Knucklehead would put something like that together. Maybe they just wanted to pretend they race slalom. Yhse Gull pro's might be good F/S trucks!
