That should have been, cracked at the truck mounting holes. The rails, nose and tail are all fine, except for the mounting holes from the nose and tail guards it used to have.

Whoo-hoo! I found my old Shogo! It's in pretty good
shape, cracked across the centre two beams at the rail
but otherwise fine, you could ride it if you didn't
jump on it too hard. I do believe I'll e-bay that puppy.
I've got some old stage 1 indies and some Wings I
could throw on it to make it complete, anyone have an
opinion on whether this would increase it's value
significantly?

FWIW, that Shogo with Extracks and conical Snakes went for $1513.88. That's a lot of coin for an old skateboard.

Has little to do with the affordability of skating,unless of course you will only skate on a Shogo Kubo?I think the high prices reflect people desire to buy back things from their youth, along with the current economy letting things get a little out of hand,i bet you wouldn't be so upset if you had a stack of vintage boards in your attic,if only i still had my mint pultruded fiberglass Brewer Phantom (does anyone remember that name?i remember waiting months for it),but i cut it into skidplates,aaaaarrrrrrghhhhhhh!oh well......

Those look like knock offs,somethings a little off in the exact shape,when a product has complete dominance in the market its inevitable that the producy gets sent to taiwan and cheaply immitated. Like a lot of zinc trash trucks look sort of like Indys.

I think they're peaking, personally. I can't see them getting much higher or sustaining. This thing is gonna be like baseball cards, it will collapse into some sort of sustainable level.
There was another Shogo that went complete a couple of weeks ago for over $1400, and I believe a few months ago an original Turner sold for $1200, deck only.

My point is that's completely stupid to speculate on skatboards ...... THEY are meant to be ridden not treasured ........ (I've seen the same thing about old surfboards)
I love skateboarding but i hope it will never become an expensive sport only available to yuppies .......
Remember that what helped skateboarding to survive thru the 80's and 90's was a punk and rock'n roll attitude .....

I found these on an old pair of quad-skates. They have no markings, but appear to be the same shape as the original Kryptonics, and probably date to the late 1970's. An OEM model? Anyone recognize them?

Mine was red and white also. I note that the one for auction is already at $1225, with 3 days left! It's complete with Extracks and conical Snakes, but even so that's a lot of coin for an old skateboard.

Wow! they're comin out of the woodwork,so far they're all black and red. Mine was red and white with a black bottom ,and i think i remember a blue one? was one type rarer than the other.I also seem to very vaguely remember,someone close to Dogtown,maybe even Shogo's interview talking about the original ones(prototypes)with three larger hollow beams with actual fiberglass laminated over.

I think i remember taking one apart once at least partially,I think they had a compressing mechanism,with a two way wedging action, so they didn't actually twist the bushings like torsions. They were klunky pieces of crap though.

wasn't the Mattel Magnum board a torsion truck? One cool thing was it also ahd habs which remained on the axles and you just changed the urethane while the bearings stayed on the board.
I rode the magnum ...it sucked. the Exkate trucks are much better. Still I would love to own a Magnum if i could get one in the original box. Just love the baords that come in Boxes... remember the Ty Page Free Former freestyle boards, great skater, nice box.

To figure out if a deck is "vintage" or not, first we have to figure out what "vintage" means.
In Webster it means,
1. of old, recognized, and enduring interest, importance, or quality.
2.of the best and most characteristic -- used with a proper noun.
On Ebay it means "some old crap that was found in the back of my, or someone else's, garage or thrift store. It must look old, or have an identifiable marking, like Snoopy or a reference to disco. Even though the Antique Road Show said "pay someone to haul it off", the owner KNOWS for sure that it is of great value.
I like Websters definition best. In skateboarding there are a few truely "vintage" items out there. A mint 60's Makaha Commander, or a 60's fibreglass Hobie or G&S, very rare, first of their kind. A mint set of Loose ball Cadillac Wheels or a set of Road Rider #2 or #4's, Green Sims Snakes or the second series, Green Kryptonics or Yo-YO's the first real radial edge wheels. A set of Bennett Trucks or first series Tracker Full Tracks, maybe a set of split axel Gullwings, a set of Seismics may even qualify in a few years. A Fibreflex, Graphite Load Santa Cruz or Turner Slalom board. A fiberglass Jay Adams, Z-flex or an Alva 30"x10" deck. Maybe one of the early concave decks, I forget who was first with one that was respected and well used, maybe it was Variflex or Sims or Santa Cruz. For me, a Sims Dave Andrect with Indy 169's and Variflex Conical C-3's is a Vintage setup because of it's personal enduring interest to me. The list would continue to go on with other ground breaking inovations or accepted industry standard products.
Unfortunatly the Kamikazi Action Sports deck would not fit into that list, but it doesn't mean that you can't sell it on Ebay.
P.S - I have a set 3 of bolts and 2 locknuts, that were seen by Alva, for sale. They are very used but still are in working order. You can probably pay to have them straightened. They have held some of the most classic trucks to some of the most classic decks at the most classic skatespots ever. Starting bid is $17.00 US
P.P.S. - Jake, please don't take this as a jab at you. It's a jab at the insane prices, for the gear being sold as vintage on Ebay.

how old does a board have to be for it to be vintage? i just picked up some funny lookin old thing from a thrift store. uhh what is it..lemme see...kamikaze action sports...its funny lookin. i got it for the skid pads all over it. the tail on my board is gettin pretty messed up and i needed protection

Now if someone could explain to me how those worked,the three spring ones, they pre date me by some,i guess if the front spring was a lot stiffer than the back ones,that would make them steer,hmmmm i think i answered my own question, someone that knows for sure correct me if i'm wrong.

Speedsprings(wide ones) were more like Randals,Magnums were like Torsions but inclosed in metal,they were real narrow and still every bit as heavy as Torsions,maybe heavier ,ouch!Rebounds had two sets of bushings set at an angle to each other one set nearly verticle one set pointed towards the ends of the board,the angle of steering was between the two,and could be altered by tightening one set of bushings more than the other.

Actually, the concept of skyhooks is kinda old skool. I remember these things from the '70's that mounted over the trucks. They were kinda mushroom shaped with a post and dome-like top. They were supposed to serve a double purpose in that you'd place your hands on them for handstands and could also hook your feet under them for the ole 'bunny-hop'. Anybody else remember these??
