Nose bones are not bad, Maharajah produced the first that I remember. Next time I saw one was when I bought my double beamer. the nose bone (in a bag w/hardware) along with a tail bone was taped to my double beamer, for installation by the buyer or shop. the double beamer was very thin, the guards help them live longet. In addition, the tail bone evened up the tail, so elevator drops were not as sketchy on the beams.
But as far as one being made specifically for the taper kick, I dont think you will find such an animal (specifically). By the time the nose guards came on the scene the solid boards (as well as vertical laminates is maharajah, taperkick, etc etc) had dissappeared in favor of the now conventional ply lay-up.
But, most any nose guard should work well. If you could find one of the two blt style powell nosebones, in black, would work vey nicely, but then again any of them will work pretty well. The powells were more robust than the others that became commonplace in the 80's

Shaun, kosher nose bits would include Powell Nosebones (Hey,they came with an early 80's Jay Smith I once had), and imho, Ugly Nose Rails, which were a late-70's Freestyle noseguard (4 T-nut, below-the-lip-grindable design), which are on my Hobie Parkrider (as I burnt off the original PowerPivots some 2+ decades ago). There's 'generic' noseguards at oldschoolskates.com as well that'll fit without putting a nametag/date/time on the 'fix' of that nose. BTW, my '93 Barfoot got smacked into a guardrail a few years back, hated to 'cut' it, but I re-cut the nose (sanded, not routered), and added a Nosebone (cuz they're timeless+work), and skate it as is today (Thanks, Chuck, damn nice Ride!), just an inch +- shorter than it was.. So, yeah, fix it, do it nice, tastefully, and RIDE IT without worrying too dang much. ;-)

Well, nothing custom-made as I recall for the T'kick. Any generic noseguard would probably do the job.

Does anybody know if a nose protector/bone was ever made for sims taperkick.I have one that has severe nose damage that is beyond repair but would cover nicely if i could get hold of one. Or any sugestions of something that may fit.

Steve Olson brought Mark Baker over to my house to pick me up to go skatin around 1978, I haven't seen Mark in years, but last I heard he lives in NYC and is a big time nighclub/concert/party promoter.
He gave me a couple sets of Megatrons, not his model ones but the others, I still got em, unused and MINT!

Numbers of Baker Megatrons? Yikes, helluva question, that. I'd take a wild guess at less than 100? Still, to get a signature that consistent, I'd say it was either added to a mold, or stencilled-then-etched.

Hey Guys,
I would summarize that any batch would of been in small Numbers. To skate at that time was against the Tide. (Of fashion.)
U.S. Imports were quite expensive and sale items began to flood the market. On advice I turned down Split Gullwings, Lime Kryps, Various Sims and even a Lonnie Toft Eight Wheeler!
A Rad little scar still remains until my journey to Heaven on my thigh. ..From The Cage Skate Park. Brighton.

apparently there are at least a few pairs of these trucks. They're obviously the same, though there is a range of differences that are understandable, especially if they're done relatively slowly with a etching tool not carefully signed with a pen. The angle of the vice is a good (an a bit humourous) point as well. But i think the sig is perhaps a bit to accurate to be entirely by hand and eye, i mean the distances to the perimeter of the hanger it's centered and consistantly too,but still a the variances(not entirely production, cast in) reminds me of when i first started making rails, particularly my tapered rails(thin in the front double wide in back) i drilled the holes one at a time with a combination drill and countersink that my dad showed me how to make, but i had a pattern with endstops to locate the holes but side to side could float a bit, especialy if one of my crew drilled them. So i'm thinking there was a template wooden perhaps that the hanger fits into, located by the axles, and it gives a precise area that the signature needs to fill. Oh yeah prescratched? i think the engraving looks a bit deep for a basic engraver they were probabely gone over a few times.

Hey Guys,
Smokestack Levene touts the story that Baker ripped Alva out the Pool! He (Alva) was somewhat gnarly at the idea!
Baker's Girlfriend still lives in Brighton. Still Foxy and single! I am old and married...
I met Steve Kellner last winter, who was a close to Baker. You could spin a Coin as to who was the best style. (Kellner way smoother)
The Megaton Advert appears in Skateboard! Magazine. (From memory) Just a phone number and cash. (Assumed) They had a pretty tight group thing that as a Grom I was not ever part of. I was hardly going to threaten Baker if my Deck did not turn up!

Mark Baker at Harrow 1980. I took this pic at some sort of ESA competition. Mark had just got back from living in Dog Town for a while, which explains his bleached hair and tan!
Oh, and are those his signature Megatrons on that setup?

Et al, with the 'Mark Baker' signature Megatrons, remember that casting in metal will always loose some detailing in the course of repeated use, ie, production... The basics of the signature are retained in every photo posted here(and pretty much what I recall from long-ish ago). Those are all 'production' trucks (a good friend of mine once owned a pair, back-in-the-day on a Caster w/Powerflex 9's on it; lost in the mists of time..), but know this; Megatrons were pretty rare, signature Baker's are rarer. Maybe not as rare as Energy ParkRacers or Proccers, but hard-to-find nonetheless. It funny how those fairly unique items eventually surface. BTW, anyone see a HeavyStick deck around recently?

Hey Guys
I have taken a really close look at these and i think you are right. There is a loop missing off the K in Baker on one of the trucks. When i hold them to the sunlight i can see what maybe where the signature was scratched on before the engraving was done ??. But they look so similar... I have never looked that close before allways thought they were production models. Maybe they did belong to Baker. Would love to find out
Curt A copy of the disc would be cool

Personally I thought the K was missing a loop... Based on past reading of my book; Handwriting Analysis; Making It Work For You... In the Personal Signiture Section... A person that signs their name in a upward motion, is a positive and looking forward to the future type of signiture... But then again it could have been simply the vice grip angle... So nothing is concrete as they say in the book :----) zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzoring. But interesting book it is!! Nothing to compare to such a fabled truck.... But recent addition to my collection of never to be skated by me anyway; a yery early seriesissue of a HalfTrack Tracker Truck... Pre black bushings or more common issues... Continue on with Mark Baker... Any knowledge as to my trucks, series/issue, past use compared to other vintage skateboard trucks feel free to comment!!

Hey Shaun and Herbn,
Man. You are correct! The B Does differ.
A Baker Deck and trackers did appear on a well known Auction site here (U.K.) About Four Years ago.
Andybinns has a Rad photography site that features Baker perpedicular to the Glass Fibre Bowl and cross stepping! This was about 1976 Skateboard Magazine (U.K) Features Baker quite a lot as well. I am happy to send you Guys a Disc.

i'm sittin here cross referencing different parts of the signature ,they look so handsigned but they are SO identical, i'm looking at the gaps between letters, distance to the edges, ect ect very close,i began to think they may have had baker sign on of the masters, but if you look at the capitol B one definitely more closed at the bottom and the shape is different. So they were hand signed,i'm guessing they were on marks personal board, great history i wonder if he signed a bunch, i'm guessing probabely not.

Hey Shaun and Herbn,
Rad shots of The Holy Grail. Shaun!
A fascinating account that answers much. (Herbn) I remember Baker running a small batch of signature Decks from The Cage Skate Park in Brighton. (Pig City) He said that they intended more however were having trouble cutting a production run grip tape. Alva style.
A passing media person told me that a documentary was made about him (Baker) for Airline flight viewing. It has never surfaced for me!
Smokestack Levene. Tells a rad story about getting Red Carpet reception in his New York Club. He hosted the Dog Town premier in London. Paul Price said.

could you show the signature part of both trucks in the same pic. i don't doubt their authenticity, but the "model" may have been a bit tougue in cheek, baker rode for megatron,he got a hold of an engraving tool, and he signed his truck....they ran an ad.....it's a part of history but i'm just wondering if technicly it was a production item. I've seen tools and schwinns with signatures in them it was sort of a seventies thing to do.
