Yeah only one factory here in the US. that makes H/K wheels under the same roof on the same line, but yes they do have diffrent formulas. Power Paw has its own factory in LA that makes it's own brand and no others... Send me u'r email....
rené ps. I did try to contact Krypto myself and no response from them, may have to pull them from the site soon as they don't seem to care, maybe to busy with Big 5! Better for me more $$ in Power paw :)

Yeah,Rene,they Are owned by the same Big Guy,but the compounds,and several cores,differ.I'm not going to to say which is better,especially after the way I've been treated by Kryptonics(when I was sponsored 20 years ago),but Hyper has put out some fast+sticky 'thane,whereas my Kryptos tend to fade.My Hypers (4 sets of Stradas,2 sets of Mundos,so far)have not outlasted the Krytos I've run,but put down better times,and feel edgier(C-70,Cr-62 excepted)than Kryptos,and as a whole,seem to be less prone to molding/machining defects.I'm chomping at the bit to get some Paws and put them through the wringer,but I've only just sampled them on a friend's board.My feet were quite happy with the ride! :}

Thanks DT,I just was looking at the lead-in,and thought that meant Krypto=Livewire. If that'd been true,I would have to reconsider how good my feet are at telling me what's going on.Luckily,I can feel the difference between Hyper and Krypto wheels, and my Livewires feel at lot like my Mundos!Oh,yeah,a belated thanks on sending the Mundos,as I finally got out on a Real Vt. hill(not those molehills that are in Va)with them this week. They Rule!

DT,I could swear that my Livewires are built around a Hyper core, ala Super-Mundo.Worse than that, the grip and feel is Hyper-like.So,which is which?I'm hesitant to admit that Kryptonics may have an equal to Hyper-thane,as the Hypers have been the dope for the last decade.Oh,and if the Livewires are K-wheels,why do they use Hyper sized spacers?

The pilot you speak of is Dave Rogers, his brother John, and Rob have been running these for a while.
I have ridden them, and they are almost identical to the 76mm that hyper (aka livewire,s9,fu manchu) just a better compound.
and yes they are in stores. i saw them on a krypto board at a big 5 sporting goods store.

The winner of the RedBull South Africa race at the beginning of this month had 76mm kryptos on his luge. Orange pinkish colored, rounded edges. He went through the whole race with no visible wear!!! These wheels are not availible for sale yet, but look for them in the next few months probably.

I have the Sector Nine Dual Duro's, Power Paws, Road Riders and Freeride. Of those I'd say the Power Paws are the grippiest by a long measure, also the smoothest ride. The Power Paws are also not the fastest but I don't care because I'm more of a carver than a bomber.

Nick,
Rumor has it that Power Paws are the grippiest. I say "rumor" because I've never ridden them. You can get them at www.longskate.com.

Cool ,that you take that wheel wear into consideration, powerpaw urithane just sort of caught me by surprize ,one day I had wheels that seemed magnetized to the street then the next I did a slide to end a run early ,right after the hill ended, and i slid out real easy skiding my butt maybe I just over compensated for the grip I thought the wheels were gonna have. Was't even thinking you were a foolish kid, just passing along a experience.

I picked these up today, actually had to have the guy take them off a cosmic because I decided they were the wheels for me, they're really really grippy, not much bigger than my 61mm nineballs I had, but! they're a lot wider because they cone outwards from the bearings,so they give lots of traction, I also got them because a) they're about as big as I can go without getting major wheel bite on my board b)they seem good for all-around skating (I tend to skate on the semi-cruddy sidewalks till I get to hills and these seem to be doing well for both c) they look really cool :P I know that's a little silly but come on, they're transleucent green! overall I'm really psyched about it. ok, I'm out

Lugedemon beware, once broken in (a few millimeters of wear) that Paw traction drops off cosiderably not all at once but at the end of one day soon you'll say to yourself, "man these wheels don't grip like they used to",oh well maybe its just me but hopefully you don't utter these words while heading for a guardrail.

I know you've heard enough about these wheels, but oh well. I tried them yesterday for the first time, i got them for my luge, an experiment. THEY GRIP LIKE CRAZY!!!! I go on one hill with a 90 lefty with my Cherries and slide far to the side, (basically u have little room for error). Stuck the Aluminators on- made the turn at almost 40 mph!!!, minimal slide!!! So they handle like a dream, but i will soon test their speed when i practice with my lugebuddies........

Here's my wheel coning list:
Offset hubs: Power Paws 65mm, 74 or 78 duro, Kevlar Hub - coning Road Riders 70mm, 78 duro, nylon hub - no coning Freeride 65mm, 78 duro, nylon hub - coning
Centered Bearings: Sector Nine 61mm, 78/91duro - coning Dogotwn K9's 64mm, 97 duro - no coning Powell Cross Bones, 65mm 95 duro - coning
The hub doesn't seem to make much of a difference in the coning. All of the wheels are coned on the inside edge.

Wheel Cone

Do any of your wheels have center-set bearings? I think that center-set bearings should reduce the amount of cone you get because the weight is evenly distributed across the entire wheel instead of just the inside edge. On my 90A wheels I have noticed some slight coning on my Bones Bombers (center-set), but not as bad as on my old Rat Bones (indented, but not centered). Another good thing about center-set bearings with symetrical profiles is you can switch them around to wear evenly.
Cores might also have an effect on cone. The wider the core, the more evenly the stresses can be distributed. Having an outside edge that is easy to squish may make the wheel less likely to cone on the outside edge.
In my opinion, there aren't enough big softies with symetrical profiles and centered bearings, whereas virtually all shortboard wheels are designed this way. Why? Power Paw makes some symmetrical wheels, but I haven't seen any bigger than 65mm. I saw some Kryptos on a fake skateboard that was being used as a sunglass display in a sporting goods store. They were big, center set and symmetrical, but I've never seen them for sale. Perhaps Krypto didn't think they'd sell. I would have bought them.
