2005 WFSA IF Board Elections

Greetings! It is election time, Jan.15th to the 20th. I would like all of you to "run" for a seat on the WFSA IF Board of Directors. The only By-Laws requirement is that you be at least 18 years old.
Most of you are already active in the freestyle movement and it is your input on major issues that is valued. The board members are required to meet once a year but we tend to have one ongoing open and rambling meeting on the f-forum WFSA board room.
It is requested that Board members do one WFSA sanctioned activity per year, that could be a contest, a jam, a demo, a published story, a clinic etc.
The general intent of the WFSA IF is to have an offical international council to discuss and plan the WC and other events and contests, to create a fundraising focus and become economically strong to support and assist various programs, become the governing body of flatland freestyle skateboarding in the eyes of the IOC. and develop grass roots to Pro level activities worldwide.
The WFSA sanctioned WC will be produced by the fine freestylers of Brazil and will be held in Sao Paulo on October 2nd & 3rd. Let's work together on this project and make it a really great show and fun for all.
The WFSA has a business manager, Angela, who will be assisting the board with fundraising concepts this year.
I f you are interested in being on the WFSA IF board, please respond asap.
Thank you, Bob Staton Secretary WFSA IF www.bobstaton@rock.com

Hey Tom T --
Ballet -- NO Technical -- YES Fun -- YES
All the moves you mention are freestyle mainstays. There are different takes on where freestyle is today but as far as we're concerned it's all about the skills. Check out the video gallery on SK8KINGS.COM to see some good examples of freestyle skating in TODAY's context. Primo, Diane, Richy, John -- all throwing down some moves for the video cam. DVD by Off The Rails includes some more killer freestyle from events all over the world (see also at SK8KINGS.COM) and other DVD's coming very soon.
We're planning a SK8 Jam in Huntington Beach Jan 30 if you are in the So Cal area -- you are more than welcome to join us and check out the scene for yourself.
Cheers and Keep on Spinnin -- Happy New Year!

new guy here wondering about the scope of freestyle...nose wheelies? fingerflips? handstands? Is this discipline akin to ballet or figure skating ( no slur intended )in its approach or does it include "street" style skating as well? What's a good video to get the picture?

I don't have time to go into the whole story right now so I will throw out a few highlights of the Santa Barbara Ocean Festival Skateboard contest. I'm writing a full story for local press and CW.
Lynn Cooper won the California Freestyle Championship Open Spaosored division in a VERY close four man finals. Everyone liked the throw down style format, but most of the freestylers that competed still prefer the 2min. routine format.
Gary Holl won the masters division.
The Slalom event drew in top names, like Hackett, Olson.
The game of skate was basically a face off between Al Garcia's team and the top three placers in the freestyle contest, VERY interesting event.
The street event had no sign-ups and turned into a Powell Demo that was wild and crazy. The central prop was a 1982 Pontiac that got totally destroyed...very cool! You gotta see the pictures of this!
The dudes from Japan ripped! We had a lot of fun with them. They gave me a bottle of Saki!
The rookies were outstanding.
The quality of skating all around was as good as it gets anywhere on earth. The weather was perfect. The crowd was modest but really loved the show.
There were issues about every aspect of this first time event that were less than perfect and did not go acording to plan but the bottom line is that the public loved all of it and it is sure to be a much bigger and better event next year.
Thanx to Jack Smith, Gary Holl and Al Garcia for running their parts of the event.
Complete results tonight. Complete DVD and story by next weekend.
