Thanks for the good words Bob. Hope all is cool with everyone! Sorry for not posting any pics. for the NYC Jam, but we where all too busy skating to get any good shots. This may come a bit late but I would like to thank everyone on this forum for your support with our jam. It was great fun for those who made it and I'll be doing another in the spring. Also, I'm looking to have a contest here next summer......I'll keep you all posted........Joe.

Bob, thanks. Sounds like what AJ/JJ are doing is exactly what I did from 1980-1985. We did freestyle demos by the dozens at schools, shopping/strip malls and other street fairs. Hey I even remeber skating in the Macy's Day parade...I'm slowely getting back into riding my freestyle board...I'm a little rusty but not too bad. I appreciate all the input on current decks available that will work for rail tricks, 50-50's etc.
thanks, -g-

Thanx Gary. I would also like to mention, as a way of introduction, that the skaters that responded to your request , J.J.O'Donnell, Terry Synnott, and John Sargent are among the cream of the east coast crop of new generation freestylers and activists. Several other skaters that have posted here recently, Joe Humeres, and A.J. are a part of that same close knit, progressive core of east coasters.
J.J. and A.J. are always on the move with highly successful and highly visible demos, jams and clinics etc., they work well with kids and community leaders. They have also been succesful in aiding other pro skaters and activists in finding sponsorship and funding, as well as being successful competetive skaters in their own right. They go by the name of the "Philly Connection" they are brash and out spoken and, to me are reminesent of the dog town boys, they are the most popular figures on the WFSA F-Forum.
Joe Humeres has been around for a few decades and has been a successful promoter of skate events and is now the go-to activist in New York State. He hosted a jam in NYC ,on the same day we were doing the Rengstorff Jam. He is planning future events with the local NY State freestylers as well as other area North Eastern skaters.
Terry Synnott has been a top 5 competitor for several years and is the go-to activists in the New England area. He frequently contdibutes to the global decision making process. One of the nicest people you would ever want to meet.
I'm not familiar with John Sargent's skating ability, but over the last year he has emerged as one of the most stable and level headed voices on the WFSA F-Forum, giving positive advice and observation on a variety of flatland freestyle issues, after all he is the Sarge.
Yoyo I'm sure you know, how about that guy! Third Place in the GFSA World Freestyle Championship, the legend lives on!

Bob, thanks for the kind words but without your scheduling of these events I wouldn't have found myself on a freestyle board again. for the past 28 years I have enjoyed skateboarding (freestyle, street, park, pool, ramp, and more recently slalom). My roots are planted in freestyle.

You younger guys on the east coast may not be familiar with Gary(H)Holl. He is an outstanding, solid re-emerging pro freestyler,a great all-around skater and a top ranked slalom racer. He has been the host of several of the No Cal fgflatland jams this year, he is very entertaining and works well with the kids. Recent photos of Gary at the Rengstorff Jam can be seen on www.noicing.com An article about the life and times of Gary Holl will appear in the revived WFSA F-Magazine in the near future. www.wfsafreestyle.org/f

You also might be interested in trying an outlook freestyle.
www.outlookskates.com
They also sell offset wheels, 54 mm, much like the Nicotines JJ mentioned.
The Outlook Flatland deck, which I ride, is is double-nosed with blunted ends. Hte dimensions are a little bigger than the Cap. mini: 7.4 x 29.25

Hey Gary H. This would be a great setup for you. The "JJ O'Donnell or Terry Synnott" pro model from Capital Skateboards. Both boards are 7.3" wide, 28.5" long, with a 12.25" wheel base and 6.125" nose and tail. Both the nose and tail are blunted for easier truck stand tricks. Also Nicotine wheels makes a 55mm freestyle wheel which is offset which covers the axle and nut perfectly.................JJ

I have a few Equipment questions:
I'm interested in wheels for freestyle...I have exchanged e-mails with YOYO regarding "Rolline" wheels...they sound nice but I'd like ot hear from people that have tried them or any other current wheel used for freestlye...I really like the older Powell Freestyle shape (offset, 55-57mm, flat outer edge).
I also really like the YOYO board and I'm interested in hearing about other freeestyle boards available...I do like a slight concave and boards that are near 7.5" wide, I'd like the board to be closer to 28 or 29 inches long with a squarer tail and nose that is shaped close to the YOYO. Again what decks are out there?

Well, I was wondering if the Carrascos were available for another Edisom Park Jam in December. I have an urge to do a Jam in San Diego during the Christmas break but do not have a location yet, any suggestions? Another idea is to have the jam at Venice Beach.

hey richey whats up with another edison park freestyle jam? last time we talked you said you might throw one in december.what are your thoughts on that? if you are busy with other stuff right now i totally understand.life can be hectic sometimes.i had alot of fun at the last one & it would be cool to skate with you & pope again. next time i want to bring some of my non freestyle skater friends & try & convert them. all skaters should try freestyle at least once. especially street skaters. after all where do 90% of all modern street tricks come from? freestyle shaped every flip & spin trick out there! i once saw an interview with the great jamie thomas & he said almost every trick he does was influenced by rodney mullen.tony hawk said that he first started doing fingerflips & thinking of all the varials that were possiple in the air because he watched rodney skate! think about it,two of the greatest skaters of all time are giving mad props to freestyle! december is tough to schedule for alot of people because of the holidays and all but what about january or february?

Mr. Bean,
I never claimed that this was a new trick. Back in 1982 a guy named Thomas Hierling (RIP) did this trick in his routine too. I have old super 8 footage.... Georgio was also inspired by Thomas and has worked on this trick for a long time.Other notables are Frank Messmann, who did this trick too back in 1984; he had the board fixed between his feet in mid air.
Freestyle is just GREAT! We are working on fotos and a report for Concrete Wave magazine. YOYO

Yoyo...ummm...you may not believe this, but I was doing that very same trick back in 1982 and even did the move in a Del Mar contest I entered back in '84. However, I called it a "Helicopter".
I thought of it while inclass in High School and couldn't wait to get out and work on the move. It took a long time to wire, and most of the time I called it a heli"chop"ter because of how sometimes I would land with one foot under the upsidedown deck while the other landed ontop and crunching (chopping) the other foot. Honest! (I have pics and video to prove it)
Regardless, the move is awesome and kudos to whomever was doing it. I can't wait to tell my old skating buddies of this.
btw - I took a Paleontology class once and this reminds me of a a type of evolution where different species would develope distinctly similar traits regardless of them living in different ecosystems in vastly different locations and in different periods of time. The precise term eludes me, but the concept is there. I believe it happens and this occurrance is a fine example.
Another example is when I jokingly told a kid I made up the Gazelle (afterwhich I caught some serious flack from him and others). The first 360 shove-it I learned in the early 80s (maybe even late 70s) was riding fakie and landing fakie. Well, the next obvious variation to that is to ride fakie and land regular footed, which is essentially what a gazelle is. Although I take no credit for the move as is termed, I did truely make the move up in my own small part of this wide world. I believe this has happened to many other skaters throughout the last 30 years also. Scary, isn't it?

I meant to say Santa Rosa Park in SLO and not the city of Santa Rosa, hundreds of miles to the north. I have not heard back from Erik about the 15th but that will probably work for him. I will go anyway and pull in a few others in the next few days. There is a big concrete slab in Santa Rosa park, it was the site of skate contests in the 80's. There may also be a good spot at Cal Poly in a big building used for experimental student projects.

Bob Staton posted that he is interested in getting a jam together on November 15, 2003 in San Luis Obispo or Santa Rosa. I (NoIcing) would like very much to attend if it is going to happen.
Bob Staton posted the following on the forum at www.noicing.com "I'm interested in getting a flatland jam going for Saturday Nov. 15th in San Luis Obispo from noon on. The jam will probably be in Santa Rosa, but other locations are being considered. Who would like to join us? 805-705-4817"
