Where to ride in Sydney?

Question for the Ozzies: Any good places to board in Sydney? Australia in General?
I've just arrived in Sydney from Los Angeles and will be here for a three month break from the pain-in-my-ass film industry. To make sure I had a good time and saw way more of the cities I bought and have brought a brand new board just for the trip; Bozi's new GS36" pumping machine. I use 129 Tracker RTS-RTX trucks and ABEC11 Flashbacks (using the Abecs over the Avila's so I can scrub speed more easily on the miles and miles of unfamiliar pavement I cover each day. (Wanted to bring Avila's, too, but traveling real light...one bag.) And if any of you have been wondering about getting a Bozi...they fookin' rock...its become an extension of my body in the four short months I've owned her.
Anyway, long story short...I'm living at Bondi Beach at the moment...Have been finding good routes all over here and downtown area...and am finally getting used to skating on the wrong side of the road. Anyone have any recomendations for nice long cruises or good grades/pavement I might try out? Or for that matter...anyone around wanna go for a skate? I'm in Sydney now...then going to Brisbane (Going to Woodsford festival for New Years), Melbourne, Tasmania, Adelaide, Perth, Freemantle, Margaret River and Many places in between.
Any info would be great...although I brought absolutley no protective gear so serious bombing runs are out. But any solid GS/Crusing runs with nice turns/grades/pavement/lack-o-traffic would be a big help. Beach boardwalks have been fun so far, but a bit on the short side. A nice long stretch of road that I can pump along for miles and never touch the ground is THE best work--me thinks
Also, I'm twenty eight, a proud and quality drunk and always enjoy 2-12 Guiness after a good days ride.
Thanks for any info.
Adam
(Rugby final is tonight....this town is gonna be off the hook...good luck Ozzies!!!)

Yeah, i'm up for buying australian made. hopefully we can organise a day in which riders and makers can gather and try each others stuff. I'm looking to buy a new board so i'm interested in looking at both kanufi's and dex's boards and any other maker's board out there.

Yeah i have seen these decks, there a work of art.Had a ride and there carving machines, very tech stuff. So next time your thinking of upgrading your deck have a look at some aussie stuff and support the local longboard companys, where not out to make $ where into promoting the sport with specialized products made for ozzie roads. See you on the black stuff :Kanufi

G'day Guys, speaking of the board situation I'm setting up some board distribution of my own (maybe 2-3 weeks) They're pretty rad boards (as Kanufi who's boards are great too, and Haggy will agree) and ride really well! I've been riding them for about 10 years now, and have decided to let others share the joy. Ride hard! Dex

Hey Haggy,
I haven't heard much more. The guys at the local shop who know the bloke (gee, how dodgy does it sound? haha) have said that he is thinking February, about 30km, and possibly $1000 as prize.
If it happens, I think there will be a race fee, but hey, that's no biggy.
I'll post more when I hear about it. Cheers for reminding me though, I completely forgot about it.

Just want to echo what 70`s Skater (hi mate!) posted. It`s pretty hard to get any decent skate gear here Down Under, so internet ordering is really the only way to go. I`ve delt with East Coast Skates, Afroman and ABEC 11. These guys rip. Good products, fast helpful service and prompt delivery to the other side of the world.
Oh yeah, also subscribe to Concrete Wave Mag, and have got a couple of T- shirts off them. These guys rip as well.

Hey Gary,
Don't get caught or they'll cane you in Singapore. Orchard Rd. has great food but didn't you hear "Slalom is dead." Just kidding. The Midtown crew will see you when you get back. BTW. I'm going to that race in Yokohama. Gonna see what the slalom scene is like in Japan.

i lived in singapore for six years 90-96, skated my ass off the whole time i was there and had a blast. also went to school with a certain michael fay, who received worldwide fame for being caned after spraypainting cars and other dubious acts... anyhow, i haven't been back since 2000 and no nothing of a slalom scene there, i highly doubt there is anyone there who is into it, of course i may be wrong. there were lots of skaters in my time there and lots of killer street spots as well as some pretty gnarly ditches if you go looking. here's a list of the main street spots where you can hook up with skaters: 1. the Main spot where we used to meet up with folks was the War Memorial (in a park called the Esplanade) not far from City Hall MRT Station and right across from the cricket fields. THe area has changed a bit since i was there, but check out the banks under the overpass right by the Merlion, big banks and fun fun fun. last time i was there the cops had signed the area "no skateboarding" but don't sweat it i never had any problems from cops, they just tell you to leave. around here there are walking paths where you could set up some flat slalom and get all the shortboarders interested. 2. From the War Memorieal skate on down and across the bridge to clark quay. go to Raffles \place MRT station, the other big hotspot for skaters, in the heart of the CBD, central business district, great ledges if you're into that. 3. Ang Mo Kio banks: pretty fun banks under the MRT train track by Ang Mo Kio station. Etc... singapore is a super place for skating. We used to hit all the spots starting on Orchard Road, head down to war memorial, then into the CBD. Slalom is trickier, off the top of my head i can't think of any great spots. But pavement is everywhere in singapore so you shouldn't have any worries finding room to set up some cones! As far as skate shops, there is one in Far East Plaza, just off of Orchard Rd, run by a guy named ramli i think. tell him haggy sent you, maybe he'll remember me. Also used to be one called Spitfire in Peninsula plaza down by city hall, maybe its still there. Good luck, have fun in the lion city! Haggy

Being from NZ I thought I'd post on my recent experiences of ordering skate gear via the Internet. Tried a few companies and mostly they were all great:
Ultimately I ended up going through a small outlet called www.igoskate.com These guys were simply awesome! Same day or overnight e-mail replies (excellent considering time differences) and their e-mails were informative, not just blah blah. They sourced in a deck that wasn't on their site, and even went to the extent of sourcing wheels from another distributor for me at no extra charges. How's that for customer service??? Unbeatable. Delivery took a week which is great, their prices were the best I found, and the package arrived with a few extra goodies (stickers and a skate tool). 10/10 and highly recommended...plus their site is worth a look and read just because...www.igoskate.com!
Other dealings were:
www.eastcoastskates.com: quick e-mail responses, very helpful but didn't have what I was ultimately after. Still highly recommended!
www.skateboard.com: excellent to deal with. Generally overnight e-mail replies. Very helpful. Very highly recommended. If I hadn't gone through the compnay I did, I would have gone through them and will probably deal with them some time in the future.
www.skateamerica.com: slow, slow, s l o w...
Hope this helps someone and if you have any queries, feel free to contact me.
