Oust Bearings are NOT made in China and the factory that makes them doesn't produced bearings for any other skateboarding company. There are current top pro street and vert riders riding the bearings as well as top downhill, slalom and luge riders.Try them you wont regret it!.

i'll side with mr hizzout here,i'm very tired, of "side by side tests", "several other top brands" and other non discript posting. who, which, how,by how much, ect ect. if you get bearings from china, from the same bearing factory that Pig,Toymachine, and Foundation get their bearings don't claim to be faster than all others, but then again what else are you gonna say about bearings? if you don't have professional skaters riding for your company, the pro's by the way, shouldn't make false claims either, just say," these bearings are fast, they work for me" everything else just keeps my B.S. meters peeking.

So when are they going to be made available to the general public, and where can we (the general public) see some pics? How much are these going to go for? More than ceramics? (Are oust ceramics?).
'scuse me for asking questions that may have already been brought up...I looked through the archives and all I was able to find was "oust bearings are really cool, and really fast" but nothing really specific.
Any help is appreciated.

I did side by side test with Oust Bearings and several of the big name others. Let me just say this, I've been ousted.

First when I got these bearings they rolled pretty smooth then about after a week they just fell apart the shields were coming off and they just weren't smooth anymore and if you are looking for speed do not get lucky's they are all about being smooth instead of fast. They suck the big one.

harddrive bearings

Hard drive spindle bearings are zero contact - the spindle floats on a cusion of air (kind of like an automotive crankshaft bearing floats on a film of oil). The effect really only works at high speed - HD bearings get the snot beaten out of them at spin up/down. It's hard to see how to apply this to skate bearings - maybe a couple of concentric sleeves with a pump to shove air between them.

they are really good bearings, high rpm for a fairly long life, but you have to remember they are under almost no load and in a sealed enviroment

tom- try the 8mm spacers. I have the same wheels and they work great. I tried it with out the spacers and it was a waste of a set of bearings. I think solidskate.com has some.

I work for "the world's largest producer of oem automotive superchargers". We have spinning parts that are belt driven and spin at 10,000rpm as long as you are driving at highway speeds. we use big "skateboard bearings"(anyone need some for their Pacers?) and some needle bearings as well. different applications for different reasons, but both types handle this extreme stress.

someone compared auto and skate bearing grades. racecars especially, run continuously for longer than your skate bearings, unless you get toed up the hill before you even slow down, greased bearings warm up in car applications. Compare weight, total vehicle to bearing drag a car out weighs it's bearings,by a much greater ratio. Speed, cars go much faster(racecars) air resistance out weighs bearing resistance by alot. A lot of cars use tapered roller bearings, how do they compare friction wise to regular skate bearings?,it's been explained to me by a real engineering type, that if you designed or could find tapered needle bearings, for the loads/stresses that are involved in skateboards it would kick ballbearing ass.

tolerances...

that's all I really want to know, are "little" differences gonna make that much difference? those size differences are enough to make the difference between smoothe running power and failure, in my business. so after spending a day freaking out if parts are out by .010mm, I just wonder. is 7.74 gonna work where 7.63 is specified? blame Quality Assurance! I guess I shoulda' stayed on as a parking deck security guard. at least I got to ride kids' skateboards before I told them not to come back...with a wink*

spacer question...
|
On 3/12/2002 Patio

say a wheel is made, and it says it's made for a 7.63mm spacer. a 7.63mm spacer should measure at 7.63mm, right? or am I missing something? so I put two of the wheels together, and in one, the spacer is snug between the bearings, the other wheel has the spacer rattling between the bearings(and yes, the bearings are pressed in tight and equally). so if I tighten both wheels equally, one set of bearings would be "pulled in" at the centers? this would reduce the efficiency of the bearings? I took the third spacer to work (to make another one, since the fourth spacer fell outta' the flimsy package when it got torn open in the mail). I measured the spacer using digital calipers. depending on where I measured it, it came out at 7.71mm-7.74mm. This shows that the spacer is too big, and not cut square. I put the spacer on my Zeiss CMM to double check the measurements, 7.718mm-7.747mm. too big and not square. hmmmm.... question...if the spacers are different sizes, and not square, won't this affect the way the wheels ride? I wish I had gotten all 4 spacers in the mail and never measured them. then again, if they'll work well with a +/- 1mm tolerance...I just don't know. I've never been a fan of spacers, and this is just stressing me out!

Bearing choice comes down to what you are using them for...I have had bones bearings and they are good, but if you dont want to be cleaning them out all the time (we ride in the wet a lot as well) then sealed cheap bearings actually take less (zero!) maintainance and last ages. If it is out and out top speed for racing you are after then spend your money on good bearings be all means, but take good care of them otherwise they will be worse than the cheapies. If it is general crusing then pay less and change when required! (I am riding £6 for 8pcs abec1 NMB. Mat.

Bought my PT bearings a week ago, ordered them on a wendsday and got them in Michigan on Friday. I put them on and they were faster and smoother than my stock gravity's. They are faster then my friends Metal something or other. I only paid $15 for the sheilded ABEC 7, he paid $25 for his. these bearings really rock, I highly recomend them, and for the price you can't beat them

duane, your bearings are com'n sent them by mail on fri,no where near as fast as pt:) but wadaya want for nuttin, things have been SO hectic, rebuilding my store, but it's so cool, just finnished the longboard rack today,i've been cruiz'n the local hills around the shop, staying tuned but real hill are soon, they've been seeping out from spring thaw anyway,so i don't think i missed much.the bonus parts with those bearings are spinning 8mm axles and sleeves and spacers, they fit in my modular trucks, scrapped two for pivots on my adjustable truck,,,,see homeades.
