a friend of mine got some precision bearings that are used on photocopying machines . They go fast and are very smooth and good if you wanna go fast ... however they cost alot and i'm not sure of their durability yet ...anyone else experimenting with alternate bearings ... i'm keen to hear

I posted that a friend got replacement sheilds for his Powell bearings from powell,chances are pretty good powell sheilds would work ,then again if the races are the slightest bit different they won't,search the web.

currently i am using halo 5's, there good. i prefer lucky3's, though the abec rating is lower they break in faster and you can take them apart. greaseballs are used by a couple of my cronies and the luv'em.

My bearing, wich are really made for rollerblades makes a different sound then my previous! They make a more tiny squeezy sound and they roll real good!

Unfortunately despite being a real fast bearing for the money greaseballs don't have snap ring clips to hold the sheilds on, just sort of have a one time press in sheild. lOOk for that next time you buy bearings. Are you using speedrings on both sides of your wheels? they may help a little, but I havn't heard of successfully repressing sheilds, I have heard of Powell sending out replacement sheilds , plastic coated soft sheilds that pop back in,a friend had some china bones that lost their sheilds,he wrote them because he was particularly poor at the time and they actually sent replacement sheilds.

In my previous job as a Roller-Coaster mechanic,I had access to many sources of industrial materials,bearings included.In the U.S.,Hoover still makes 608 bearings sealed,and also with one side sealed/the other shielded (like the old Krypto bearings of 1981 vintage).IKS,Fafnir,General,and SKF all sell 608 bearings with seals on both sides.All weather skating is a fact.

terraboard uses bearings that are bigger then the abec size. i don't really know the specs, or the brand, but they are double seeled, and last forever. the gey's i ride with that use xt's use i.s. bearing products. if you go to WWW.LANDBOARD.COM in there links page they have the i.s. web site.

why not boil your bearings in gasoline? Combine the best of both worlds. Do this over the open flames of a gas stove for the best effect.

I believe those wheels are made by Hyper which uses the roller skate hubs, so you would need to go to a rollerskate store or a skate shop that sells the smaller spacers. i could be wrong, but they would be either the 6 or 7mm spacers.

I just bought some gravity 73mm 78a plastic core wheels and some lucky 7 bearings with some 10mm spacers and some speed washers. However when I put this together on all four wheels the bearings are overlaping the core by about a 1mm or 2mm. I really hate this non uniformity. Come on people start selling the spacers with the wheels. The cores are what vary, not the bearings. So when it is non standardized, what is the best way to find out what size spacer goes on each wheel without having to fully put them together and ride them to let them set and find out whether they fit or not? it just takes to much time to keep fooling around with the wheels and bearings and spacers when most of this time could be better used riding.

I guess a more responsible rant might go something like this...
If a company is going to use non-standard hubs, why don't they just go the extra distance and also make the correct spacers available? This seems pretty reasonable -- based on the number of people on this message board who have questions about where to get 'em. Not that many people have easy access to the machines and tools needed to make custom spacers. For example, Ninja makes those smaller bearings, but they don't expect you to fabricate your own adapters. They make 'em available.

Why can't all car wheels be the same?how about engines? or brakes? shocks? bumpers? for many reasons good and bad this world does not have a consistant law of uniformity. If you had a mold to make cores from making rollerskate wheels and people let you fill up some downtime on your machine and make skateboard wheels you do it. Spacers are really not that complex ,study up,no biggy.

Why can't these companies get their act together and all use a nice, standardized 10mm spacer? Why are some of these people using roller skate hubs? Its insane.
Seriously -- if you manufacturers are reading this, take a clue from Rene at Power Paw, Powell, etc., and go to a 10mm spacer. Get rid of all this roller skate junk.
