THE GUTLESS PANTHERS I HAD LAST TIME MUST HAVE JUST BEEN SOME KIND OF FLUKE SCREW UP CUZ MY NEW SET I BOUGHT NEW FROM MY LITTLE BROTHER ARE DAM FAST, NOT AS FAST AS MY SWISS BONES BUT QUIETER, I FEEL STEALTHY EVEN ON A ROAD FUL OF POT HOLES WITH SAND AND MUD, THE BEARINGS KEEP QUIET, IT'S PRETTY EASS KICKIN, SORRY FOR ANYTHING BAD I SAID ABOUT PANTHERS BEFORE, I MUST HAVE HAD A BAD SET!!

when cleaning your bearing in paint thinner should i take out the plastic retainer thingy in the inside of the bearing
before i clean them or does it even matter? will the thinner eat away at the retainer if i leave them in?

I have Black Panther's set up in my Krypto Classic K 70mm 78a wheels, with Randal IIs, and a Sector 9 Cosmic 2 (an official review is forthcoming).
The 10mm Black Panther Spacers work perfectly with the wheels. The correct "amount of play" on the wheels, is of course "no play".
The bearings are really, really good. They are simply the quietest, smoothest bearings I've used in a long time. With the above set-up, you could sneak up on someone and snatch a purse pretty easily, because it is so silent and smooth. And fast -- did I mention fast? They are fast!
As I may have written before, one of the spacers was poorly machined and didn't work right, but I think it was just a fluke.
I think the Krpyto Route 70s use a narrower spacer -- like a 7mm spacer -- a Quad Roller Skate spacer.

i love the panthers, after six months? of riding through water, dirt, all kinds of crap (with a cleaning after of course) they are still as fast as the day i got them. as far as denting..i had them in a short for awhile with little tiny wheels, no problems. of my other bearings (dardevils, and lucky sevens) about half of each have dented sheilds (how did that happen? i'll never know) and one of the bearings actually fell apart while i was taking the crown out of it.

everybody needs to stop being obsessed with the abec bullshi#, it means almst nothing, if your wheels have the right amount of play and u got spacers u r good 2 go, abec means very dam little when it comes to speed,u pick up some kmart abec 7s and they are slow as $hit, garbage, some abec 3 china bones, the same price, will burn them hands down any day, plus they clean better and are hard 2 dent, the same goes 4 swiss bones, i love my chinas and swiss they hold up really good and are $hit your pants fast
i have had bad luck with black panthers, the shields seem to dent pretty easy and they aren't even as fast as my china bones which cost less and come with spacers, just like the panthers do and i luv em. chinas and ninja 3s are hands down the best deals on bearings,
shorty's quickies are garbage

Just for reference, since there isn't any standard on bearing widths and wheels and whatnot, the spacers that came with my black panthers (shorty's quickies, I assume) fit perfectly in my lil' 61mm S9 nineballs. I think someone said they're 10mm spacers, and maybe this carries over to other S9 wheels.

Well, yesterday I hit a lil hill, 20 mph at most (scary for my 3 weeks of experience), didn't see the left turn at the bottom of the hill, thought the road ended, freaked & bailed. Managed not to hurt myself, but my cloud 9 (which I love) hit a tree and now has a large bashed in place on the nose. On the way home, I noticed I wasn't keeping speed well, and one of my wheels was louder, so immediately tried to roll the wheel and got a nice "CHUNK CHUNK CHUNK" sound. So I get home, check out the bearing (sector 9 greaseballs), and it's stuck like anything. I figure I might as well get a whole new set of bearings and I needed some spacers anyway, so today I went to my local shop. After all the talk about how abec ratings aren't such a big deal if you have spacers, I asked the guy behind the counter if he had spacers, which it turned out he did NOT have, seperately in any case. So I decided to buy the black panthers bearing set with the spacers and speed rings. All I can say is wow. The posts here point to the panthers being long lasting, and they sure are smooth and unbelievably quiet with the spacers. I haven't done much riding with them yet, but I'll tell you guys what I think tomorrow after my commute to work. Keep carving!

I like to hit the local Big-5 when the have a sale on roller blade bearings. I have been able to pick up a set of 16 ABEC-5 high quality bearings for $15 on sale. I don't remember the brand, but its what they have in their usual stock.
Blade bearings are identical in size to skate bearings. The 5's really outspin the 3's or 1's, plus many of them have a dust cover on one side that you can remove for easy cleaning. Clean bearings are happy bearings.
I don't get caught up into the whole name-brand thing. I go for the best quality at the best price. And for me, its Big 5 on sale days.

A friend of mine and i were racing each other. Both of us were on Freeride Senorita Love Joys and Randal trucks. I had a set of Swiss Bones, he had a set of China Bones. When i was going down, i could stand straight up and he couldn't even get close to me, and he was in a full tuck. We switched boards after a few runs, and he would take a quick lead, but since i was more aero i would catch, draft, and pass him on the China Bones.

Both of these companies make good bearings. The China Bones and Ninja 3s run around $15 and are fast, a good choice for your cruiser, carver, and sliding boards.
Where the Swiss Bones and Ninja 7s run around $35 and are noticeably quicker. These are a good choice for your speedboard. Or all yourboards if you are rich.
I cant see anyone buying ceramics, they cost a lot more and would only be noticably quicker for the elite. They cost an arm and a leg, and they dont last very long.
If you really want to go fast, you will need to work on your aerodynamics. Just a few simple changes could make a world of a differance, something a bearing change wont do.

They got new ones with clear plastic sheilds, those seem slow on the wheel spin test,but the older ones(not the ABEC3) real fast and shouldn't cost more than 18.00 possibly cheaper.

really there isnt a huge difference in any bearing available.. supposedly a abec 1 is as fast as anything.. (im not gonna side with this) but any thing abec 5 is fine.. i prefere bones or destructo personally... get whats on sale mate

they're also 5.00 a bearing abec3,15.00(ouch!)in ABEC 5 and these are probabely greased industrial bearing that will need to be soaked and lubed with light oil to bring out their best speed.

Check this,6900's seem to be rated as a stronger bearing than the trusty 608,thats a 22mm od,means they'll fit right into your wheels with a 10mm bore so a sleeve/spacer would need to be made,I can do that with a hand tied behind my back,these bearings give most of the weight reduction of minimizers,which have a much lower strength rating.Herbenizers

To remove the bearings, just use the axle of you trucks to pry them off. Put the axle through the center of the bearing, cock it to one side so it is braced against the inside of the bearing, and pull the bearing out, like a cork.

Yes,and no,Racer.Some washers out there are Not small enough in their outside diameter to engage Only the center of the bearing,thus letting the bearing spin freely.If your current washers leave any marks on the shields,you're loosing some speed.The same is true with bearing spacers.I like Black Panther and Powell aluminum spacers due to their smaller outer diameter,and reasonably consistent machining,However,I have had some spacers made for me by local machine shops out of Stainess steel,with the outer diameter picked so that no shield contact is made,and so that my bearings are totally parallel to each other,but that's for that extra confidence boost at 60+ mph.As for washers,Speed Rings are quite good.I can say that Military Spec. Stainless Washers are,under the magnifying class,better;But good luck even getting ahold of those pups.

Although Denver has allowed for a slow break in period, these bearings are turning out to be very smooth and quiet.
As for how fast are these? I can't quite tell, but they are certainly not any slower than the factory S9 bearing.
Does anyone have opinions toward these (panthers)? I've read the archives, whats new?
