Lansdowne info. Please Help!

Hi, I'm in dire need of some help from anyone who has skated Lansdowne currently. I'm planning a trip down there this Friday and while looking up some info some things frightened me. I know that the park requires full pads. But what I don't know and heard:
1.The park is only open from 3 to 8pm on Fridays? I would really like to find out if this is true, since I planned on leaving Jersey real early to get to the park in the morning. 2. I'm bringing some kids that are 17yrs old with me. I heard that anyone under 18 has to have a waiver signed by their parents. Now, I'm not these kids' parents, so what do I do with that situation?
I tried to find as much online as I could, but the only number I found that might be some help is no longer good.
Could any of you guys pleeeease help me out?

It'll be good to see you here, Hamm! John O'shei was the last west coaster to hit our shores, plus he hit up Arlington on Opening Day. Like Knucklehead mentioned, Reston is but 30 mins away from Arl if there's no traffic(THERE'S ALWAYS TRAFFIC).Give us a shout when u get here, we can direct you, plus knucklehead gave you the street addie for the Arl sk8 pk, so you can mapquest it. I often give WesE a shout on the cell when I'm stuck in traffic in N. Va and I need to find another way to get around, WesE is always great on searching for alternate routes for me....so we'll hook you up w/him as well. The Franconia Ditch has been wet a lot recently as we've rec'd lots of rain...however, you may be able to squeeze in a quick session before you have to run for the hills....rumours have another ditch closer to Reston...out in Manassas that's cool. Heck, when u get here, you'll be able to check out the Green Skate Laboratory, in NE DC on 20th st too. This is DC's newest concrete skate bowl built by lots of volunteers and not far from Arl. Let us know when you're coming out....but please don't ask me to take you to the Smithsonian or The National Zoo!

Arlington is fun. Two of the bowls have tile and coping. It is located on 6020 Wilson Blvd in Arlington, VA.
Some sessions are unsupervised and free while others are pay with nanny present. Here is a schedule. http://www.restonskatepark.com/arlington.htm
From Reston it should take you about 30 minutes to get there.
Vans is gone... RIP!

Hey John Dillon or Dave(LBK)R. or any DC'ers. What's up with the new park? Where is it, Arlington? Is it big? Is it a crowded? Is it free? How long will it take me to get there from Reston in DC area traffic? Does it have a website? Is the Vans park closed now? Does anybody skate the Franconia ditch anymore?
I gotta a lot s#@! going on back in NOVA this year. Newphews gonna grad High School in late May/early June, family reunion on August, High School reunion in Oct. I'm bound to hit the area at least once before winter.

The Milford park opening was awesome. There was a sick session going down at the bowl.....I've never really skated bowl before, so most of the time I was just watching, my mouth open in awe of some of the skill. I was real timid...Too timid, and only tried it out twice...One time I survived a very sketchy run, and another I busted my tailbone! Well, the guys there RIPPED...I was amazed by what some of the guys could do...I don't know any of their names except for Bill, who was incredible.
So, thanks a TON for the park...It's really a great thing, and something that Connecticut needed. I'm definitely gonna be going back and practicing my pool skills, so someday I can participate in a great session like the one that went down yesterday.
P.S. I was the kid with the striped shirt, who just kinda stood there, occasionally playing around in the street course...The kid who fell on his tailbone and everyone went "OOOoohh!"
Good fun. Thanks.

Due to heavy rain Friday, the April 9th morning old-school skatepark session is moved to Concord .
Unfortunately, the Martinez park does not drain well and will have big puddles for a couple days.
I'll be at Concord, but cannot make the afternoon Moraga session.

In case anyone is interested, the pool at Fernridge Park in West Hartford, CT is clean and empty. Granted, it's square and more banked than trannied, but it's still fun, at least to me. Hop the fence before the water returns!

The opening ceremony is 10 AM. The park is located at Washington Field in Milford. From I-95 take exit 36 (Plains Rd). Turn right @ end of ramp if you're coming from the south, or left from the north. Follow to rte. 1, keeping right at the fork. You will cross rte. 1, then take the next right onto Washington St. The park entrance will be on your right. Not sure what the fee is, but it will be less than $10 (I think its $8 for non-residents, but can't remember). I think the hours will be noon til dusk weekends and 3 til dusk on weekdays.

Sunday was a little Tuck Knee Tournament at the Ballard Bowl. This is Max won a deck.
We had fun, put up the Tarp for the last time, as it was raining (you guys in California couldn't handle our rain, so now it's back up here...). Bull Dozers are in the parking lot. We've got maybe a couple of weeks left before the epic Ballard bowl is gone.

Skateboarders, who are used to being chased off sidewalks and concrete expanses throughout San Francisco, are trying to build a park of their own.
After the Recreation and Park Department ran out of money to fund a $2 million overhaul of Potrero Del Sol Park, which would have included a 10,000- square-foot skate park, skateboarders and neighbors have started to raise the money themselves.
"There's a huge need for skate facilities in this city, and Rec and Park habitually ignores it," said Kent Uyehara, owner of FTC skate shop and member of the city's Skate Task Force. "You know what? We don't need another soccer field. We don't need another tennis court. We need a skate park, and we're going to try to get one."
Working with the park department, skateboarders and neighbors have applied for a $1 million state grant and plan to open an account with the San Francisco Parks Trust to collect donations.
They will find out in May if they won the grant, which would come through the state's Urban Parks and Healthy Communities program, established in 2002 when voters approved Proposition 40.
If the money comes through, workers would break ground in the fall, and the park would be finished in about a year, said Jeanne Darrah, the District 9 representative on the Park, Recreation and Open Space Advisory Committee.
Originally, the park district planned to spend about $2 million on the 4. 5-acre park at 25th and Utah streets. The plan called for a small soccer field and a playground in addition to the skate park.
It was supposed to be funded through a $110 million bond passed by city voters in 2000, but the bond money was spent mostly on projects that were already under way. Dozens of other proposed projects were put on hold, including those for Potrero Del Sol.
The park desperately needs facilities, said Darrah, who lives in the neighborhood. There are 19,000 children under age 18 living within a mile of the park, giving it the highest density of kids in the city, she said.
Neighbors came up with the idea for a skate park. "The lower part of the park is near a freeway intersection, and there used to be a lot of homeless people and drugs down there," she said. "We thought, 'Why not put a skate park there?' It's already noisy, and skaters aren't afraid of anything."
Once word got out among what Uyehara estimates are the city's 5,000 serious skateboarders, they started coming to neighborhood meetings and helping the neighborhood effort.
"All these skateboarders were suddenly showing up, and certain people were apprehensive at first," she said. "It was like, 'Oh, no, who are these people?' But everyone's been working together, and it's turned into a really positive thing."
The skateboarders are thrilled at the prospect of finally having a top- notch skate park.
"We need it desperately," said professional skateboarder Nikhil Thayer of San Francisco. "There's really nowhere sanctioned for us to skate except Crocker-Amazon. People come from all over the world to skateboard in San Francisco, and we should have a great park here."
Among skateboarders, San Francisco -- specifically, Justin Herman Plaza -- is revered as the birthplace of modern street skating.
The city is home to numerous professional skaters and skate businesses, and features prominently in many skate movies. The X Games have been held here twice.
Not surprisingly, skaters flock to the city as a kind of four-wheeled Mecca. But when they ask where the best skate parks are, they're told Mill Valley. Berkeley. Palo Alto. Novato.
San Francisco has one skate park, and it's essentially an empty swimming pool in a remote corner of Crocker-Amazon Park. On a recent sunny afternoon, it was deserted.
The Crocker-Amazon park was built in 2001, at a cost of $500,000, and has been consistently ignored by the serious skateboarders because the design is old-fashioned, they think it's unsafe, it attracts a lot of little kids, and it's in a particularly cold pocket of the city. It's nicknamed the Chilly Bowl.
Skaters say that they would much prefer something that emulates Justin Herman Plaza, which in its heyday attracted up to 300 skateboarders a day, not to mention BMX bike riders and in-line skaters. It's a flat expanse of concrete, punctuated with low ledges, concrete blocks and benches and small brick ramps. Its centerpiece is the large Vaillancourt Fountain sculpture, which skaters liked to ride around.
In the mid-1990s, police started issuing nuisance citations -- at $81 each -- and the skateboarders moved across the Embarcadero to Pier 7, site of more short ramps and concrete blocks. But restaurant owners nearby complained, and police cleared the area. Now they favor a place they've dubbed New Spot, behind a Muni bus depot at Indiana and Cesar Chavez streets. But they figure it's only a matter of time before they get moved out of there, too.

Here is an article about relaxing anti-skateboarding laws in SanFrancisco...ooh they are gonna let us ride on the sidewalk ;)
They totally dis the Crocker Amazon Park (where I just slammed my tailbone on my lunchhour), calling it 'basically an empty swimming pool'. Heh, they meant it as a dis, but that's why I like that park. Every time I go there I end up writhing in pain at the bottom of the deep end tho (I'm just learning bowl skating)... but the view from the bottom of the bowl looking at the sky is so nice I keep going back. Plus its close to work.
Sounds like the new park is gonna be mostly street if the current plans hold sway... we gotta get some flow in there. For information on how to help the Potrero Del Sol Skate Park, call FTC skate shop at (415) 626-0663.

Today, on the way home from church, I wanted to show my wife a great (although very run-down) park from the 70s, the Falcon in Huntington, WV. We skated it back in the 90s and, as recently as 2002, I hit it for a session, though by that time it was in bad shape and my wheels were WAY too hard for the surface; nonetheless, it was like an old friend I knew I could go see any time. Anyway, much to my surprise and bummer-tude, the thing's COMPLETELY gone! It's a bull-dozed field with new grass growing on it! The only constant in life is change, and sometimes, that change hurts.
