I'm gonna ride a pool, but my l o n g board ain't gonna work. I've got this standard deck(33x8") with 52mm 100a wheels and abec5 bearings. IS THAT GONNA WORK? I realize I could just go out and do it, but the pool is an hour away.
Thanks for any info!

Where have you been, Tobin? Are you out west like almost everybody else? Are you still skating? Stupid me, of course you are.....you always ripped...wasn't that you swinging from the chandelier above the crowd at some show at W.U.S.T. Hall or was that Wiggy? It's good to see you onboard....now we've got to get Heyman out and about! Let's work on it! DC TOKETEAM Rules!

We had a session at the infamous "DC Fight Club" last Saturday and four street guys show who had been skaing Freedom Plaza earlier. When they walked in, you could tell they were a little confused at seeing all tranny and no ledges or rails. After a while though, they started getting it and then they were ripping it. That place takes it's victims though and one guy almost donated a testicle after slamming spread eagle into a pole/obstacle. He alley ooped and came down pumped and blind. Forgot about the pole and smacked just like a cartoon character. To make the place seem even heavier, I invited members of MS-13 to come watch and drink beers. Fun night.

There is no freedom for skateboarding in places like freedom plaza. Might as well call it FEEdom plaza or freeDUMB plaza. Actually it seems the bust factor is low there these days but most of the skaters that post up here on ncdsa have little interest in skating square ledges with no tranny. Though I am always impressed with the skill of the DC street skateboarding scene.

Man your name rings a bell. John Dillon remembers all of the DC skaters names, faces, boards, ramps, favorite color, etc. Where you been these past few years? Dillon mentioned some of the old DC skaters traded their boards in for golf clubs or some @#$% like that.

Ah, the joys of New Britain. If you go at night with a broom to push the water uphill to the drain (!), then carefully time your arrival a day or two later, you can avoid the junior thug bicycle crew and skate the mellow bowl. It's actually a cool thing to have close to home, but I wish they'd build one in West Hartford. Groton or Milford would have been a better stop. Thanks for sweeping though. Happily, it was clean and dry on Saturday morning.

After running slalom w/the New England farmers just 30 mins north of New Britain, I stopped by the concrete bowl on my way home to Maryland. I was the only one there w/a skateboard, the bowl had 3-4 inches of water on one side of the drain and about an inch on the other side, trash was everywhere, broken glass too.....the bikers were just riding around the filth. I cleaned most of it up but I had no broom to shoo the water uphill into the drain, so I had to skate around the water. I had fun trying to stay dry and then after 30 mins I continued my journey after my board went for a swim. I retrieved her, dried her off, then proceeded to Sayreville, hoping to skate under the lights til 11pm. Unfortunately, upon arrival, there were no lights on. I was bummed as it was a beautiful evening and it was dry(the weatherman said it would rain). Well, atleast on my way north on saturday I stopped by Sayreville to session for an hour or so and wait out horrendous traffic going towards NYC. I love those concrete waves!

It's a great shot...but w/all this pollin in the air and my eyes being all puffy, I didn't recognize Ray. He's a Prince George's County/Ethiopia Ramp/DC local who I grew up with and then he lived up the hill from me(in Butcher's Hill) when I lived in Baltimore's Eastside(Highlandtown)in the 90s. Ray always rips w/style and he tore up Vans(DC) when it was around....it's good to see him continuing to fly!

The UFO boosting over the SPOA hip looked familiar somehow, but I had no clue as to where I'd seen his face before. Then I saw a sticker on the fence at Nashville: "Outlook Skateboads, Ray Fennessey." When I got back home I looked in an issue of Juice, and the dude in the magazine looked a lot like the dude at Athens. Whoever he was, he was workin' it pretty good.
And don't let Rick kid you, Hamm, he can skate vert just fine, too. I saw him working some nice speed lines at Athens. In fact, Mr. 6, you carry more than enough speed through that brick coping section to do more than just bark a grind. You could be doing stand-ups or Smiths all the way around that bad boy. Get to work. I want to see photo evidence by the time you hit Tower Grove in 2 1/2 weeks, or things are gonna get ugly. :-)

This park is well worth a visit if you're anywhere in the area. It's within 5-10 minutes of the airport, and it's less than 5 minutes off Interstate 24 if you're driving through.
Highs: Wally Hollyday park (so I was told); good surfaces; really fun "roll-around"/bank area with effortless speed no matter which direction you skate in; nice flow area with lots of carve lines; cool sculpted details (sorry, no photos) on the back side of the oververt pocket and a couple of other obstacles; and a sort of mini Upland Combi pool, maybe 5 feet in the shallow, 8 feet in the round and 10 feet in the square, with nice pool coping. Plus the overall setting is really cool. It's in a city park, with lots of trees and grass, some inside the skatepark itself. Overall, it's one of the "prettier" parks I've seen. There's also a huge, city-owned wave pool across the parking lot--not open yet, but I'm guessing it opens around Memorial Day.
Lows: Some tile damage on one wall of square, oververt pocket was hard for me to hit high (Athens, GA seemed easier), and the biggest one: the PO-lice, seemingly just itchin' to give you a $40.00-plus ticket for not wearing your helmet. One local guy got popped on Monday morning just as we pulled into the lot, and my traveling companion Paul Graf almost got one just for *walking in* with his board and pad bag in hand.
Sample dialogue: Paul -- "No problem, I always wear a helmet." Cop -- "Lemme talk, boy."
Another local told of cops sitting half a mile away with binoculars, making a mental list of helmetless riders and then cruising up at their leisure and writing bunches of tickets: "I got you, and you, and you."
So if you go, WEAR YOUR HELMET, or take your chances.
Yours truly
Purty!
