My first park was Pivot Point in Riverside back in 1978, I am sure it was copied from the Concrete Wave... then to Skatopia. But in the early 80's I was a Skate City (Whittier) & Colton Ranch local. They were both awesome parks. This is pivot point 1978

Headed out to the Santa Monica Skate park the other day to shoot some of the guys. I had to go through the regular process of registering and paying and I even had to wear a helmet even though I wasnt skating....whatever. Anyways, here is the link. Check em out and have fun.

Dan, Those pictures are Alameda in the Bay area. It was a copy of Concrete Wave in Anaheim.
Mark and I used to go up there when we lived in San Jose. It was heaven at the time.
Interesting anecdote. I bought a pop out of the vending machine at Alameda and my change included a buffalo head nickle. I still have that somewhere.

Dan thanks for sharing the Alameda picture. That was my first ever skatepark as a kid. I used to go there on the weekends as a kid visiting my Grandparents. My Grandpa had a boat yard by there. You could roll around there forever and never have to put your foot down. That park wasn't big but had a lot of flow for its time.

Jon I never got to skate the Big O. I have seen old photos of it on Concrete disciples though. More photos of places I've been are on my site, Northwest Skater.com. I don't make any money off my site, just a place for me to share my photos with friends.

Maybe if I wasn't riding a Bonzi I could have handled it a bit better. I remember seing a guy there who had these new kind of trucks people were tripping out on. The 1st time I saw Gull Wings. The next day I made my 1st board out of popler wood. I still have it Soo ancient It has a skatepark Montebello bumper sticker on it

There's a Skatopia site here. Ed Economy had a bunch of Montebello pics on his site, but that seems to have disappeared?
There's some Skatopia footage in "Skateboard Kings", which is a BBC documentary from about '77 (and was a source of footage for Dogtown and Z-Boys), and that one shows up on ebay all the time (but usually low quality dubs). There's lots of old park footage in "The Rebirth of Skateparks" (available at SoCalSkateparks.com...
