Have a great trip! If you get near a computer, let us know about the cool skate spots you visit. Have fun and skate safe.

A-Dam
On 5/14/2004 Ethan wrote in from (192.12.nnn.nnn)

Well Amsterdam is completely flat so be sure and bring a board that's easy to pump and fun on the flats.

Go to Vondelpark, its a really big park in central A-Dam that is a blast to hang out in and people watch. Has a nice paved path thru it.

Its pretty flat in Northwest Europe in general, tho. Next time try to make to the Swiss, French,German or Austrian alps. Usually the roads leading up to the ski resorts are nice and empty in the summers.

have fun dude.

PS go to Homegrown Fantaseeds Coffeshop for me.

On 5/5/2004 vaitus wrote in from (24.199.nnn.nnn)

yeah boy!!! drop knee after cross legged turn da music in my ear(phone)s past da booter chicks (not too fast) past da grumbly ol' bikers past da reverse ball cap frat boyz running in surf trunks (ouch!!!) vaitus already at da bottom of da hill and vaitus no like pushing back .....good time to practice the cross push though...

that's the 60's longboard spot, narrow slight downhill walking path that's similar to a small reeling wave, kinda like Malibu

70's style works better for smooth wide roads with small ramps and such on the sides, I like to do those on the cosmic1, but I have to be careful (knees wil hurt) on the low pivotal thing cause I'm not Bertelmann (aka rubberman) and the last time I've been 13 like zboy jay adams in the movie I was 20 years ago :(

Surf Style
On 5/5/2004 silversurfer wrote in from (24.62.nnn.nnn)

vaitus - hang ten? Sounds kinda like 60's longboard stuff. Cool. I like my skateboard kinda long (not too long). But for surfing, I like 70's shortboard. Bertleman and such.

I don't walk the board. I am trying to emulate that low pivital style, with lots of cut backs and such. Sort of like that Stik video or the z boys movie. Actually still trying to figure it out. Looking for ideas.

Thanks for the input!

BTW - what equipment are guys using?

Sidewalk Surfing Setups

What kind of set up (deck, trucks, wheels) are you people using for sidewalk surfing?

What types of skating do you consider sidewalk surfing?

Very curious about your equipment.

Angi sorry to read about the ankle, been there done that.....when you're fully recovered make sure you're using a good pair of hitops for ankle support
(I use the ipath bigfoot in natural hemp and they're great!) with a neoprene ankle brace for the first few days.

Hey SS those carver trucks video are awesome, I've been wondering about those for quite sometimes since I saw a picture of Laird Hamilton riding them (latest issue of Juice). I made a search on the trucks forum and found some interesting reviews, both positive and negative, there's even a guy who's selling completes with carvers on, http://www.bukuboards.com/fat_fish.htm.

I'm not sure if the guy at the beginning of the stik video is the kids dad....but he sure can pull some amazing standup slides....backside!!
Looks like everybody in that video is some kind of pro, kids included.
Can't really think of any setup that would allow you to do those things since I don't know you and I've never seen you skating, whatsmore what works for me might not work for you and the opposite. The best thing I can think of is try as many different boards as you can, then go ahead and buy some stuff and experiment with it.

Last but not least you or someone else might be interested in this nuclear pickle (hughr has a review of these trucks on his page) complete I saw on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=16264&item=3674790452&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW
looks very similar to the stik.

What do you think of these, I have more if you like them.

Getting a new board, too. I don't think I am going to get the stik, it is cool though.

I've been searching the equipment forums for ideas.

i was wonderin'...
On 5/1/2004 psYch0Lloyd wrote in from (216.80.nnn.nnn)

...where you'd you gotten off to angi. take it real easy there w/the ankle, ice it as much as you can and stay off of it so it doesn't get any worse. it's pretty easy to injure yourself w/o knowing it. when you start using it (walking or anything) be sure to ice it often because the swelling can do more damage than the injury itself. had the same situation some years back when it was impossible to walk but getting around on a skateboard was about all i could do. weaned myself off the deck by playin' frisbee... until i figured out how to ride one (that's another story best saved for some other time).

not to worry, i understand wakesurfing. first experienced it around 1984. used to paddle out into the boat lanes out here in chicago and thumb down boats for a tow. then if a deep hulled rigger came about it would just be a matter of communicating my intentions to the captain and it was riding for miles. one time lost my ride by addison and didn't realize it untill it became obvious that I was in the midst of speeding boats coming out of belmont harbour and clay shards showering from above as the skeet shooters were goin' off at the gun club (now gone). sure put the fear in me like the time the "logs" were moving of their own volition when my buddies and i surfed the mouth of the st. johns, realizing right away we had a pod 'o gators amongst us.

btw my handle psYch0Lloyd is derived from a mathematical formula and is pronounced like similarly. the zero is silent (of course).

some amazing things!

Check out the other video's at the bottom there too. And let me know what you think.

Maybe these guys should wear helmets...maybe I should....

I'm glad you liked the stik video. So much style, like the Z - boys. I wish that me and my son and two daughters skated like the dad and kids in the video. We are working on it. Great example of the coleman slides and bert's.

For another weird video, check out the video's at:

Check out the guy "surfing" the sidewalk on an actual SURF BOARD!

Hi, Anji

Sorry to hear about the ankle.

Did your husband ever get a new board or is he just using yours because you can't? Which ones was he looking at? It's usually better to buy longboard stuff from a good on line shop like purpleskunk.com, solidskate.com or longskate.com. Oh and Daddies board shop is good, too.

Did you ever get a chance to check out the video at www.stik.com?

I think you would enjoy it, it is very surfy.

:( ankle trouble..what gives?
On 4/30/2004 angi simpson wrote in from (67.8.nnn.nnn)

psycho lloyd--- its called wakesurfing...its super fun and kool to do when u cant wakeboard (cuz of chop) we have footage of our friend Drew Danielo, he is the #1 wakesurfer in the world as of last year. check out www.420Empire.com and there are several vids of drew throwin' it down. the dead end stare video on there has fooage of drew skateboarding too, the kid is sick on any board! yeah, we load down one side of the boat depending on if your rider is regular or goofy footed..and you go about 10-12 mph. the best boat we have surfed behind is an X30 ...good stuff.

bad news on the skateboarding front...I pulled some ligaments (sp)? in my ankle and it puffed up like a blowfish..i am out for a few days.no skate/wake nuthin! I have to be all rested and better by May 7th that is the first wakeboard tournament I am in!! so i am trying to rest..anyone know any good tips so this doesnt happent again?? it seems I just pulled it from being out alllll day and from pushing off.! wierd. forget i am 'older'sometimes.

time to go watch some vids...I can dream can't I?

What about the Kids?
On 4/29/2004 silversurfer wrote in from (24.62.nnn.nnn)

vaitus - I know about Brad Gerlach. I don't expect to be able to skate like he does in that cool banked skate park. I would be great if I could though. That is really surf skating.

What I am talking about is near the begining of the video. A dad and some kids start pumping down the flat and then they start grabing a rail and pulling cool slides and such. If I could just emulate that one scene (to start with) it would be great.

What equipment (other than the surf stik) would be good for this?
