Why I look forward to work
On 10/23/2004 Kahn wrote in from United States  (198.81.nnn.nnn)

I am 23 now, and I must say.. I enjoy work.. The thing that gets me by is the excitement I get when I go home from work. You see, I park my car down a very small slope in Pasadena(The whole city is basically on a downhill slope), but it's just enough that with a few good pushes, I can board all the way back to my car without any pushing.. Well, sidewalk surfing is the best way to describe what I get after work. Up the driveways onto the sidewalks, down the next driveway.. Ducking from trees, carving hard... Just a eurphoric feeling I get when I come home from working... I hope you enjoyed my story!! I enjoyed living it.

On 10/22/2004 trish wrote in from United States  (207.224.nnn.nnn)

I was reading some of the older posts and I got a kick out of the 40-something dad picking his kids up from school on his longboard. I am a 39 y/0 mom on my 4.5 foot long board picking up my daughter. Ya can just see all those conservative moms eyes pop open. what a riot. I love the idea that we do something different and I love carving the hills even more. My daughter is learning not to be a conformnist. Longboarding/sidewalk sufing is a lifestyle. So all you "sufers"----ride on!

picked up a new board to beat up on. it's a 9' mol to recharge that surf stoke, the whole reason i started skateboarding in the first place. sure is a nice way to rehab the ol' shoulders and bring the core back into the groove.

if you haven't been in the water lately, maybe its about time to think about a paddle session.

street riding
On 8/24/2004 Aenghooste wrote in from United Kingdom  (193.113.nnn.nnn)

Boards got the same lawas attatched as cycling so you can use streets to your hearts content, I commute everyday about a couple of miles on my board and hop from road to pavement depending on the traffic, I find cars treat you with respect if your assertive and take up no more room then a bike and people may complain when you pass them on the pavement at 20mph plus but hell your pass them before they can complain. If a cop stops me for skating on the pavement I say: "what you expect me to go on the road with 18 wheelers scootin past me? On a board???" They generally except that and when they stop you for goin on the road just remind them of the law. Basically though, if you ride with comman sence, ability and look further ahead the faster you go there arnt any problems. I've stacked a few times and never has it been while on a mission, only when pissing about at a park or somit, you need concentration but other than that dont go above your means and its all gravy.

its the summertime of our lives
drinking in the scenery
as the story goes,

i kinda expected to have more of a hassle myself but we only had one cop mention that we might get into trouble if we ride through a crowd. we concurred and walked a little farther before starting our roll.

Events around here are garded really well
On 7/3/2004 wes wrote in from (70.16.nnn.nnn)

The problem we have around here is when they shut down streets for events they bitch at the skaters and threated with arest. I got the same thing when i went down to the boardwalk at Hampton Beech just 20 minuts from me here in NH.

been finding some priceless rides on the outskirts of local events. most any street leading to any large public gathering closed off to motorized vehicle traffic resticted to pedestians only is a riders day dream (especially if its on a hill). i've spent too many years evading these gatherings of vast crowds because after a while their pretty all much the same. guess i was wrong all along.

skirting the issue of pride
On 6/27/2004 psYch0Lloyd wrote in from (216.80.nnn.nnn)

got the 7:10 am page to pull up stakes and head into the unmanned data center early this morning after spending a bit too much time invested in the post race activities of the night before. snoozed at the climate controlled console trying to keep a handle on load balancer cutovers then backout procedures as another useless tasks took a chunk out of my sunny day. skipped out of there w/the dilemma, slack off at the beach or be a good boy and see just how the missus can put a twist on my already small but shrinking sense of reality.

waited at the corner restaurant nursing a coffee and rolling a turkish glow stick as the conversation at the counter turned to the pride parade that was to happen today. made me realize just how bad i didn't want to be in a crowded street corner as made up men and some hand made women turn my stillness into a frenzy. i declined the invitation as she beckoned come hither through my cell.

julicat strolled the route to a swedish breakfast as i did the slow burn directly in her flight path. occasionally turning on the turbo only to return and then scoot off in another direction for a bit. openhouses were the distraction that allowed me to smolder a bit as the smoke got in my eyes.

then the much feared redirect, like hammer blows beat into my skull: "lets go to the pride parade!" shattered the safe retreat of the little boy in the back of my mind. "go to the parade..." she coaxed w/the notion that i always go in screaming but wind up having my own good time whenever she takes me somewhere completely out of my realm (though she's right you know).

hopping the train direct into bedlam sticking close to my woman as our eyes would wander and our minds would wonder if that gorgeous thing in the toga was too good to be true. realization hit that one could be in the midst of some of the most beautiful women at times (as she smiles). exiting into the crowd opposite of the direction of the flow. we were like oceans of fish schooled in mob mentality milling back and forth as w/the tides. we kept off the main feeder streets patrolled w/shark like teati piranhas because the shallows offered the protection of the reef... er, more about that later. the path eastward got deeper so i dropped in and weaved my way through the mass of humanity and some of questionable origin too. carving back and forth on streets too full of the pedestrian mollusks some stars and urchins try as they might couldn't get in the way. we approached the raging flames of volcanic expression as straight lines blurred in the distance which was the parade.

she was there sittin' on the box to boost her small frame to heights of ecstasy pouring her shaker of margaritas into any inviting cup till it runneth all over. sweet petite but not in my radar as scanning my window of approach proved informational overload as air raid sirens in my mind turned into the car alarm parroted by her and her companion (cutest thing i never noticed).

the burly boxboy came by with his dripping load beering the icy chip on his shoulder. dropped his leinies and started to make like maniken pis as her expression of dismay turned to panic. rudely numbly talking her up and stumbling through the mumbled thoughts of his depravity momentarily distracted by the alarmed car as he dry humped the grill without satisfaction. thoughts of him getting a bad case of the knocks or even pings or even worse welled but subsided in laughter once more. then he approached our slight but surly korean girl friend with hopes of.. what? (no one knows of gives a damn bout). i had to think for a moment but acted without self-doubt as "hey dude, she's my sister..." almost lip synched but then again microphone was on. he backed off immediately as i offered to watch his packaged goods if you would so he can run off to heed that unnatural call. my new li'l handed me one of them beers with a heartfelt hug and signing it with two hands meeting above her head like a valentine winking and smiling as she introduced her lover as if she was our mutual friend! dripping wet boxboy returned with a refreshed sense of repugnancy as she bummed a cigarette and told him to give me (her brother) for watching his now depleted stash.

like the other sister i never had we hugged, as she left sayin': "call me later!" to the questioning glare of my life partner. then she and her lover danced hand in hand into the misty crowd of indulgence leaving me holding the preverbal bag. after that i really couldn't hear anything she said but understood everything left unmentioned.

a few moments more at the edge of the churn and then we too were swept into the exodus w/little direction. this time going with the flow i dropped in to another smooth and soothing release on the warm asphalt mind glittering peopled by glistening beads of expression. as the road took to lsd we hopped on a northbound bus piloted by a lady she would sing us the blues. we were on a roll.

throw another deck in the rolling fire...
On 6/20/2004 psYch0Lloyd wrote in from (216.80.nnn.nnn)

yesterday we skated to the heartland as julicat took the stroll early in the morning. cnova accompanied us for just a taste of the natural.

later on in the evening cnova and i got all slack-jawed w/oldschool ozzie and the rest of his crew. loads of bier, softball 'n bbq. old times w/great friends. droped down into the blazement for a twist, grabbed a loose deck to roll on only to find myself using a signed wes humpston flying-w which shed its seedso nicely. she was there in her cowboy boots skinniest little thing, from a truckers dream. leaving the crew with a pretty damn good impression of amsterdam. best part was the sacrificial bon fire to the longboard gods. one big stack of flipper sticks turned to ash as some band w/no name played on through the night.

it must have been more than just a fog filled dream or a product of this hallucinogenic imagination because today the skating could only be described as epic.

It talks about the invention of mountain boarding, mountain biking, snow boarding and some other cool stuff like sky boarding!

To anyone with cable, I recommend this show! Cool stuff, great video.

Anji - you'll like it, it has a very cool segment on wake boarding, too.
