Narrow trucks get the turn off quicker I think. More of a Z turn than an S turn. Traction may be sacrificed if you go too narrow. TK

I've known of this phenomenon for a little while. Evans and I talk often on the phone. He often tells me of his new ideas for narrow tricks, I mean...trucks...I also know that Mollica rides some pretty narrow trucks at times. I'm not sure what the big idea is with the narrow trucks...maybe I'm missing something??? Anyone want to chime in on this one...please? Fill me in as well...thanks

So Mike, what is your favorite recipe for trout? do you ever blacken and cajun style or are you a more genteel chef/fisherman. Can you sushi trout? as for tippets how light do you go? do you prefer a floating or sinking line, WAIT A DARN MINUTE!!!! there are still a few races left this year, WLAC, JPL and a Colorado COSS. So much for fishing and no new posts since the 23. I found some truly new pavement and no cars, one hill undulates for almost a half mile. What a great G/S spot. So I am pretty stoked. Hey Mike what is with the current move by some of the big dog pros to 88mm trucks? I mean half tracks and fulls are sold out and those G-trucks are 100mm being chopped down, heck Bennets with metal bases are unatainable, probably cause Olson ran em at the worlds. Chicken is narrowing the 101. Can you tell us what is going on?
Thank you, George good luck fishing.

3 UK slalomers I know drive these, and I want one badly:
Having driven one nothing goes round corners faster, and they do 0-60 in 4.9 seconds. Mind you I'd like a Hummer too.

Heavy Boards

Sounds to me like light boards are the way to go...but I would rather be in a Mercedes at 100 mph than a VW bug. Is our speed to weight ratio even relative to this statement I just made? I'd rather be in a car that was heavier and is going to stick to the road if I have to go around a turn or avoid something in the road. A lighter car would certainly slight out at that speed. Right??
Dave, I have some cones. But you gotta drop by my house and get them!!
I'm meeting Jonathan at Berkeley skatepark tomorrow morning. This place is LINES galore.
Come and skate if you have time.

Piedmont skatepark then Tunnel Rd. on Saturday. Piedmont skatepark then Tunnel Rd. on Sunday. The good thing is we can't get there before 1pm since the skatepark won't be open. Means we can have fun tonight.
Any takers?

Hey guys...
I know it's late notice, but I'm hitting Sunnyvale with some Trader Joes skate rats tomorrow around 9:30am and skating until around 12:30pm. This is becoming a regular thing friday am, so I'll try to post a reminder each week.
Wish I could join you all sunday, but probably not! Working most of the day...

yo clayton, whats up? hows it going, hey if you see jonathan tell him to send some boards up north, i've been distributing lots of comet propaganda, people are interested.
anyways, more on weight. at the last san francisco gravity festival, kludy was riding his rocketboard made from steel which weighted over 13 pounds with trucks and wheels and he was having a very hard time pushing off from the start, and making that left hand turn at about 45-50 was next to impossible on such a heavy board, i'm amazed he acually was able to do it. my point being is that a lighter deck is better because there is less material to manuver. the only time where a heavy deck would be good is on a long, strait, very fast course. i can't imagine a heavy deck helping in slalom where so many more turns are made compared to speedboarding.

David is right!
A lighter setup regardless of leg strenghth will always be easier to get up to speed at a push start than a heavy one.
I might be able to beat someone because of my leg strength in a push start even though I have the heavier deck , but I would most likely be even quicker using a lighter deck.
I can lift 50 pounds a lot quicker than a hundred pounds, regardless of my strength.
I think you all get the point :)
Regards, Clayton

while a heavier deck may give you more momentum, a heavy deck is going to be harder to push from the starting line while a ligher deck will be easier to push from the start

Hey Keith, I agree to a point but when youre running a big fast gs course with deep carves weight is not a factor. TK

TK, weight is important in a deck. The quicker and easier you can move a board the quicker you go.
Mike it was good to see you again and I look forward to the next time we match up. I saw your comments on the World and I agree with what you said. I did the same thing and I will not do it again. Later Keith, Teams Radikal & RoeRacing.

does weight matter in a slalom board????
if weight matters couldnt you make the board similar to the plankkr? i think this would be almost as light as foam coupled with lightest trucks, wheels etc..
i have a gs/hybrid turner and love it but i am curious now as to why foam is used so often.
also what kind of lay-up with the fibreglass and carbon is preffered? my woodwork project requires me (alright i chose this project for myself not my marks) to make ten or so boards so i plan to make atleast two slalom boards with a wood/carbon or glass or anything lay-up. one 36 inch super g full shape board and a tight slalom full shape board.

I think in the next few months we will be seeing wood lams that work as well as foam. More important is the lay up. what type of glass is used tri , bi , unidirectional and how carbon comes into play. Foam started with the masters Turner and Howell and these were considered THE hi Performance slalom decks of the era. Hi End snowboards have a wood core and work well, Surfboards use a foam core for obvious reasons. The thing with foam is it is light and strong. The question should be ...Does weight matter in a slalom deck?
