I was 7
Manhatten Beach Grand Prix (I'm probably wrong and you will correct me. That's ok, I don't mind learning)
League of American Wheelmen (Pre-cursor to USCF/USA Cycling)
Don't know the name of the series
Otherwise, who F-ing cares.
I was having fun w/ Arab with no ill will. Just a jab here and there like when your having a beer w/ the boys. I like him, he's cool. I'm not here to spout about my past (or present) exploits. Why does everyone get their pink little panties in such a wad on NCDSA? Do I know every little factoid about cycling (or skating)? No! Do I want to? Definatly NOT! Do you (whoever you are) know more? Oh, probably. So, I say, good for you - have a nice day - you got me on your quiz - and I'm not angry, frustrated, sad, emasculated, or anyway feel small. I'm having fun, here and in life.
Now, Mike..... I'm stoked that you are so interested in road racing. Why don't you set up a time so I can bring you to the velodrome? I know that I have a Track bike that will fit you. It's such a rush! Just don't stop pedalling.... In April, the Wenesday Night Series starts and maybe I can get you racing out there. Track racing and skating.... you'll be one Bad Mutha'! You'll be true blood n' guts!

Did you get 1st or 2nd? Also, just because I know him doesn't make him my freind. Get that one straight. Why? I just don't really associate w/ a guy who screws 16 year old girls he coaches when he is 47. That kind of violates the whole coach/athlete trust thing. Plus, we don't live in Thailand. I just know he was top dog JR in '74.
And likewise, if I was walking down the street and saw you, I wouldn't think you've done any type of physical activity......... Except type excessivly on skateboard forums.
Man! I really love myself!

Farid-I dont doubt you either, if your friend is who he sez he is, then I'm sure he raced Manhattan Beach that year, ask him who got second? he surely would know that.
Looking at you now I wouldnt have guessed you have ever done anything physical like skateboarding or biking, but then you do look like a blader.

Arab, Don't be so thin skinned. I don't doubt you, I'm just having a little fun. Looking at you now, I would have never guessed that you raced bikes. You can say the same for me. If you won Manhatten Beach, you've won one of the biggies. It's still a big National Calendar race.
In regards to me being hassled, if it's good natured - I don't mind. It's part of being a guy. Guys hassle each other, girls flip out if you hassle them.
The only bladder I'll have in ABQ is what will store my piss before I find a toilet. I gave away my only bike helmet to a kid racer. And, why the Hell would I wear spandex? That's not kinky or perverted; I look simply disgusting in it. Oops! I'm hassling myself! I don't want to make myself mad!
Who is Farid?
God's F-ing gift to mankind. At least I would like to think so.
PS Mike - Sorry about clutering your forum. Still looking forward to seeing you in the future.

Come on Arab! Top Jr in CA in '74? I happen to know the guy that won the JR World Sprint Championships that year and he was from So Cal. Who was he? Don't matter that much. Just hasselin' you! I raced too, but I like skating more. I'll see you down in ABQ - I'll be shooting pics all weekend long. I'll be staying at Palmer's.
Mike - If you need any help with your bike racing, let me know. I'm still coaching and all that crap. This past year I had a few guys win Nat's, Nat medals, and make world's teams. Pretty cool! I hope you are having a blast. If you keep it up, you'll be the only one that will be as fit as Mollica (or fitter!) Good luck at Sea Otter, the road race is tough and usually gets real broken up. Try to do the circut race also. It's really cool to be able to race around Laguna Seca a bunch of times. That Sunday also has the Santa Cruz Criterium. One of the most epic and oldest races around. So many people get popped each lap! It's a real strongman's course.
Hope all is well. Looking forward to seeing you soon.

Hey Mikey-I come from a bike family, I road raced as a kid and was the top junior in Calif in 1974.
My dad still rides daily at 65, he does about 10-20 miles a day and on the weekends he and a bunch of other older cats do 40-60 miles, had a bit of a scare a couple weeks ago, he went down hard and ended up in the hospital with a couple broken ribs and lacerations all over. He had been sick previously, he just blacked out climbing a steep grade, when they got him to the hospital they did every test imaginable and the only thing they could find was he was dehydrated and that was the cause of him blacking out.
Moral of the story, if you plan to ride after being sick, start out slow, make sure your body is back up to snuff before you dive right into a long ride, and drink lots of fluids.
I cant believe how lite and advanced bikes have become, I rode my dads 17 pounder, GEEZ!!! bikes have come a long way since I raced.

Hey Clayton...I got your message day before yesterday, sorry I didn't call back, I already had plans to go on a road bike ride yesterday. A couple buddies and I went for a 55-60 mile ride. We rode to to Fairfax, then up and over the hill to Panaramic Highway then rode along the ridge dropping back into Mill Valley. Plenty of climbing and decending throughout the entire ride. Man oh man, getting back in shape feels good. Went for a ride in GGP on my cross bike today. Cross bikes are almost like a REAL mountain bike!! I'll be ready to skate next 'weekend' weather permitting.
Keep in touch.....

I'm sooooooo sorry I didn't make it guys. My son (and me and mom) had our first teacher/principal ummm... *get together* yesterday afternoon, and I was still there in the meeting when my skate partner Steve Keenan called about getting on the road. I was stuck there trying to sort everything out.
I'm planning on next tuesday though, so I'll post again as a reminder. Hope it was a good session! Damn...
Did you guys happen to meet Steve? He mostly hangs in the Mickey Mouse bowl and the Washboard... Fairly large older guy with reddish hair, cool frontside grinds, riding a Duane Peters pig? He used to own (and started) Consolidated Skateboards, and works with me at Trader Joes.

Mike... it's the very same spot.
No worries about getting back to me. I wasn't ready to surf anything... I went out paddling on my new shortboard 2 days in a row and only got a couple waves due to dead arms and a really cranky upper back. I was sore for over a week on that submarine. The following week I bought a 7'7" Tufflite Bob McTavish egg shape. Went out with my son this weekend, just to paddle in tiny surf and found it catches nearly anything. So I'm now ready to start getting my shortboard chops back. I'm at 831.588.8162 and my fridays are gone due to school, but thursday is now my day. If there's any decent swell running, I'll give you a call.
John - I need 2 weeks minimum advance notice and I can NOT ride saturday. Only sunday. Sorry, but that's my freakin' life. Let's DO IT! They've got JPL down south... we need a simple worthy outlaw race up here. This will make us faster and happier!
Clayton... Starting now, I'm trying to ride or surf *somewhere* every thursday, and we've also started hitting Vans Milpitas for the 6pm session tuesday nights. I'll be there tomorrow night... Anyone? Come one come all!
