David... I'm bringing my leathers and speedboard, but wonder when we'll get any time to ride. I could hit GMR on the way out monday am. We could get a really early start and be there by about 9am.
I'll try to talk with Sully tonight and give you a call as well. It sounds like a big crew is going to hit it sunday, but I'm sticking around for the tight slalom action. Gotta take it as far as I can! Talk tonight... (Is Mike bring any downhilling gear?) Mike?

I know this is Mikes column, but I see John Ravitch posting here from time to time. I was out at Jack's Canyon and ran into the Hopi's (Joanne) with their dogs. They said hi. I am thinking John changed his email.
La Costa is just a few days a way, I have no tight board as it is all dis- assembeled. I been doing a lot of biking so I will just have to see how it goes. See everyone in a couple of days.

Mike! Talked with Rick ICK today and he sends his cosmic eternal stoke to you and wants to see you RIDE! (Me too mon...) I just got my 17"-18" Buzz Bomb today and set it up. Feels awesome with the cool foam concave. So now I have a tight ride. I'm going out for a bit of testing tonight. So you're riding down with David, correct?

Judi, sorry, I'm such a flake. I got them about two weeks ago, I totally forgot to say THANKS! I ended up giving them to some friends at the shop who needed helmets. Thank you very much and the folks who ended up with them thanked me, so I'll pass that onto you. THANKS.
Had a fun session at GGP last Sunday. Thanks to all who showed up...Sayers, Ravitch, Sully, Price, Scott...thanks for the session guys. The session didn't start though until we made it over to Berkeley. We skated Tunnel for a few runs...damn I miss Sundays! Then we hit the Piedmont skatepark, then some ultra high security METAL FULL PIPES! Yup, full pipes in SOMA. Classic shiznit. See ya at La Costa!

Hey Leo, howzit? It's been a while.
I would recommend skating and more of it. Get on your slalom board every chance you get and practice every type of course you think you might encounter and then some. Although, for me, it's been different. I haven't been skating much slalom lately. I've been spending lots of time on my bicycle and skating at Crocker Amazon bowl (not for a couple weeks though since I crashed up big last time I skated there doing a frontside air), but last time I skated slalom I got back on it very quickly. I figure all the biking and bowl riding made it way easier to get back in the groove. I spend so much time riding a fixed gear that my legs are plenty strong...it just takes a little bit to realign myself and clear cones. Also, when I ride my bike I apex turns...if you don't apex turns in GS, you don't make the course. It just took me a little to get back in tune with my quick skating or as you slalom types say "tight."
Speaking of that...it's all slalom. I don't think there should be any other marker for a particular course setting other than that it's slalom skateboarding. Like downhilling, bowl riding, street skating (although in practice 'street skating' seems to be slalom, but whatever), anyway...you get my drift.
Sorry for the tanget...
Anyway, Leo...if you want to train at home...this is going to sound really weird but visualize yourself skating. Think about it, so many instances and experiences you've had on your skateboard...you can go there. You can think about it. Think about what you did, think about what you didn't do. Do situps...you need your trunk to be strong to be able to get bending around cones. Stretch...I don't do nearly enough of it, but I can tell you to stretch. Watch videos...if you can get hold of Kenny's videos, get them. Study them, watch them, do what the people do that you identify with. Say, you find someone who is about your size, stands the same way or something like that. Try to do what they do, when you do it though it'll be yours because you'll never hold or carry yourself like someone else because you're you and they're them.
Anyway, I hope half of that made sense.

San Jose slalom session - great hill

Thanks to Mark Johnson and H.C. for showing me a great hill in San Jose! Good speed to practice for La Costa, and nice long run-out for safe stopping. Was worth the 63-mile drive from Martinez -- especially since I stopped by the awesome Sunnyvale skate park. If any East Bay skaters want to carpool there another time, email me.
I learned a cheap lesson at Sunnyvale -- don't try to turn an over-rotated 360 on a bank into a 540 at the last second! Had to tumble backwards on the bail, snapping my head up quickly to avoid smacking the noggin hard. Came out with a fairly sore shoulder and a little bruised pride! :-))

Bay Area Slalom lives! More sessions...

The skaters are definitely breathing some life back into Bay Area slalom. GGP was a lot of fun-- who's ready to go this coming Sunday July 11th from 10:30am to 1 pm? I'll bring 32 cones, and need someone else to bring at least 20 more for a good course. We could have a skater lunch get together after the session.
I'm in for this Weds. evening July 7th San Jose session, and H.C. said he will show too. According to Miko, here's the plan: We'll run a good hill for an hour or so, maybe free skate a bigger hill to finish up, take a dinner break, then have another session on a lit run with an awesome surface. You can email Miko for details-- or call 831.588.8162
I'll be going down early from the East Bay to avoid traffic and skate the Sunnyvale skatepark before the slalom session. Anyone from the East Bay want to ride with me -- leaving about 3 pm?

Rich.....Thanks for trying to stimulate some Bay Area slalom interest!
Sorry you couldn't make it Mike. Maybe we can rally to get a street closed on one of your days off! Great to see those who showed: Rich of course and his wife, HC, David P, Sully-Laura-Elvis, and a special apperance by Steve Tamanaha. We can't get him off his bike and back on a board dang-it.
Rich, you're chargin harder every time out, keep it up Bro!....L8r SK8rs
