This is just one of many places it get advise. Doesnt mean ones hardwork shadows another persons. Most people here work hard and sometimes its nice to have conversations on what others are tring, working, not working and so forth. Sorry to seem offended, obervation are just that, they lack the knowledge of what it truly takes to do what we do. "i have only one comment. Why is it that everyone wants to know Mike's secrets to his success? He has trained long and hard and I am just wondering why the rest of you can't do the same." For my opinion, the rest of us do, very hard. Chris Barker, JJ Corning, Kramer., the list goes on. So I apologize for the ominous tone.

Sorry to touch a nerve AP. I certainly had no intentions of offending anyone. You are right, I have never been on a skateboard, nor do I ever want to. Too many of my friends, my daughter included, have broken their bodies doing what they love, but that doesn't mean that I can't love to watch and be amazed! I will be the first one to admit that I am a BIG chicken when it comes to skateboards! If I am not mistaken, aren't these kind of sites created so that you can freely ask questions and voice your opinions? I was just commenting on the fact that it seems that people want Mike to answer all their questions because nobody wants to work for them. I am not suggesting that no questions be asked because experience needs to be shared; but there has to be a balance because what works for Mike may not work for you! This is true for all aspects of life. And I am gonna stay as anonymous as I'd like.

Busy IS the word! Full-time Trader Joes... Full-time school for Radiology... being a dad... mountain biking with Jackson (jumping mostly at the gap lots... broken ankle is almost healed!)...
BUT!!! I just got my new TS deck from Rick ICK in the mail, and after a LONG wait, I have to say this is going to be an awesome deck. I'll post pics later, the w/b goes 18"-19"-20", so it will be super-versatile.
I probably said this before, but '05 was a rough year watching all you guys gallavanting around to the races. I only went to ONE race... NON-Slalom... MARYHILL brother!
Maryhill was the most epic and spectacularly FUN race I've ever attended, even with the controversy over Chaputi's twin-front-truck-fairing-thing he was calling a skateboard. He got a ton of grief from all of us the entire event, and I'll never forget the pack of riders all chanting "Down with the LUGE!!!" at the start of his final. (tough love indeed, but of course we (mostly) all love the guy even if he does grind our gears regularly).
The Canadian and Seattle crew are a blast and it's a TIGHT group of riders. I think I'm going to be even more conflicted about whether to race downhill or slalom, but I'm going to try to be in good form for both in '06. (Put in a good word to McCree and crew... I'd love to have some support getting to races in '06 as a *fast* MASTER.)
I'll try to call and check in with you and the Professor soon!

I love how a person can have an comment about something that they have never done them selves as well have comments for people that do it for the love of skateboarding. Winning does not define a person. There actions speak volumes. Life is about sharing your self, his secrets may not help anyone, it is the open communication of skateboaring which is the truth. I say email Mike direct for secret identities dont pass off here to well. LOL

LOL...ya! You've known me since the 1st grade! Bad Kitty told me about your site. If you think about it, you'll figure it out! As I was reading through this stuff, learning new things, I was just noticing that you are quite liberal with sharing how you do "your thing". To me, it would be like a Fortune 500 company sharing its trade secrets, but that's the bean-counter in me, I guess! It is interesting to me that you haven't changed much...at least the core of you...since school. You always were one of those "nice guys"! In talking to you, I can tell that you have a passion for this sport and it makes me want to know more about it! Although, I will NEVER get on a board, I would love to watch you do what you do so well. And you are being quite modest about your talent for this sport...you are the 05' Worlds' Champion, right??? lol And don't work so hard that you forget how to have fun!!! And spend some more time with the gorgeous redhead, would ya!!! lol

'whats the biggest hill you've gone down?'
Don't know...never measured
gorgeous in red...thanks, I think! One question for you...do I know you? : ) Part of the reason I wanted this board was because I was a newcomer to this sport in 2001. Yeah, that's right. Until that time, I had never stepped foot on a slalom board. I had street skated, surfed and snowboarded for many many years prior to my first experience with slalom. I wanted this forum because I can still remember the first time I stepped on a slalom board and I can obviously remember the progress I made and the path I followed to get where I am. With that in mind, I figured I could share some of my experiences etc. and maybe help someone else get better at a sport I seem to have some 'talent' for.
Miko...how the heck are you man? I've been working my arse off lately. Hardly spending any nights in my own bed. This new job rocks but it's hard work and a lot of travelling.

It's not so much HOW BIG the hill is, but HOW HARD you charge, and with what precision. Having watched Mikey charge a variety of hills, including speedboarding, it's apparent that there's a style that has, and continues to evolve with each hour spent on the board. Dues have to be paid, and careful attention to how a variety of the best riders articulate and perform, on a variety of equipment will lead you towards more SPEED.

as i read through these questions...i have only one comment. Why is it that everyone wants to know Mike's secrets to his success? He has trained long and hard and I am just wondering why the rest of you can't do the same. He has the scares...and the World Championship, by the way, to prove it!!! He has earned his props by falling down on his ass more often than not. He is a great person to represent this sport because he actually loves speeding down a hill in excess of 30mph, falling down~eating asphalt, and getting up and doing it again! And the fact that he gives out his every detail about his boards. You all need to grab your balls(sorry if there are any ladies out there!)and figure some things out for yourself...and do your best to keep up with him!

J-Rad...
Fine thanks and it's really good to hear from you.
I would love to attend those races! I really really appreciate the offer too, by the way. Sounds like a couple unreal events. Hopefully, by that time, I'll have some saved vacation time so I can join you guys. For one event at the least! Airfare, a place to stay...count me in. Of course I remember your lovely sister. Tell her I said, 'hi.'
Keep me informed via email. That will probably work best. At some point it might be better to talk on the phone, but email should work great for now.
Thanks for the invite, I feel honored.

Hi Mike,
how are you ?
Next year the Antibes World Cup and the Zurich race will be probably two week's in a row. We are thinking to fly you in for the next Event in Zurich. We would like to have the best TS racer's of the World at the competition and show the sport to the people, perhaps there will be a big media coverige, because the competition is a part of the car free day in Zurich.
We hope that Pierre makes his race one week before/after our. The Date for the Zurich competition is Sunday 24. September 2006.
Is it possible for you to take some time off from work at this time ? We will look with our sponsors to pay you the flight ticket's. For accomodation there is no problem, there will be two possibilities near Grueningen or in the hart of Zurich wehere my sister lives. You meet her at the price ceremony in the pub in Stockholm, Jasna is her name, i don't know if you can remember.
I will keep you informed in this Forum, or write me an email, when you know if it's possible for you...
cheers
/J-Rad

"on the Skaterbuilt web site, the widths are listed as 8.5" on the CK TS and 8.0" on yours. Are they really the same?"
You are correct in noticing that subtle distinction. They are essentially the same. Come from the same mold, cut from the same wood. I wanted my board to be slightly narrower so it can dive into the turns more effectively.
Hope this helps...

Mike,
You say "The only differences are the shape of the nose...slightly shorter and the tail, rounded instead of the swallow tail.", but on the Skaterbuilt web site, the widths are listed as 8.5" on the CK TS and 8.0" on yours. Are they really the same?
Thanks.

Mike, thanks for the note on the MM pro model i have gotten to love the way the CK TS rear kick feels under my feet. The cutaway area for the feet in both front and back is a brilliant touch that is not noticable from the photos, but whereas the Roe and PP riders are always talking about keeping their feet in place, the CK boards have a swell little spot that just fits my size 9's.

"Does the rounded kick shown in the pro photo provide more consistent foot placement and better control than the fish tail on the CK TS, which seems to have a concave for the foot as in all the CK models?"
Well the rounded tail doesn't 'do' anything. It doesn't provide anything other than a major distingushing factor in identifying the board as a MM model. The concave is exactly the same on my TS model as it is on the CK TS. The only differences are the shape of the nose...slightly shorter and the tail, rounded instead of the swallow tail.
"Does your custom GS have the same kind of rear kick as the TS PRO model?"
I do not have a custom GS board, yet. I do have a template I worked out for the board and yes it does have the same tail as my TS model. It's basically gonna just be a MM TS stretched and widened. What I do have (ridden in the Worlds) is an early proto of the TrimDelux that I modified the rear truck position on so that I could have a 25" wheelbase. It's actually the same board I rode at the Indian School and Bear back in May.

"Six feet is still crazy-tight, isnt' it?"
In a word, no. I skate 5.5 with offset on a regular basis...6' isn't tight to me...6' could be gnarly if you ran it on a hill...but Main in Morro isn't much of a hill, so there...6' isn't tight.

Mike,
It looks like your Pro Model has a full kick in the rear rather than the current CK TS fishtail. Does the rounded kick shown in the pro photo provide more consistent foot placement and better control than the fish tail on the CK TS, which seems to have a concave for the foot as in all the CK models?
Does your custom GS have the same kind of rear kick as the TS PRO model?
