Hmmm, Very Interesting. When Scott of Subsonic asked me to design a shape for him back in 2004/2005, I came up with the "Pauliwog" model shape because I found that every deck I had up to that point(except my PPS Chicken-good for big courses) did not have enough deck under my toes and to a lesser extent my heels on both feet for general and tight courses. I'm still riding that same deck I've raced on since 2005 since nothing feels as good to me in tight and general as that deck does with the nice full width.Slowly I added foot stoppers, PPS foam heel lift wedging on the tail and added more lift under my front foot toes and heel. A while ago Scott started making his slalom decks with heel-lift kicktails as an option.
I kind of wondered if it was just me being a wierdo and B-Classer since guys like you (Maysey), Fluitt, Barker, Skip and a LOT of others for that matter where still faster than me riding decks narrower in the nose and tail. It still amazes me you guys were/are still that fast on narrower noses. Slowly I've noticed other people going toward the wider noses and tails. A friend of mine (Ron S. - Corvallis) recently got a Skaterbuilt VRS-II for park and loves it. Now I'm going to put a bug in his ear about putting his slalom trucks and wheels on it to go ride some tight courses.
By the way Dave, I'm STILL riding the all-wood 12" Hegmobile about 1/3rd of the time in skateparks, in some situations it's just unbeatable, park-groms can't keep off of it some days either. Schlater-Paul

Well, I guess the word will have to be mightier than the .jpg on this one.
Indeed, DaVo and I have been testing boards with much wider noses than either a Maysey or ConeKiller and phat ass rounded-square tail. I think the board is something like 8.8" wide with a slightly narrower in the tail, maybe 8.75" or so. Now I know you think they're VRS II...but they aren't....they aren't...I swear......they are not VRS II's...they are made of all new wood...all new formica...........all new truck mount holes...............and all new wood, did I say wood...oh, there it is up there. Oh well too late. I already typed it and I'm not gonna take it down. JUST KIDDDDDDDDDDDIIIIIIINNNNNNNNG!!!!!!!!!!!!
Truthfully, they are VRS II's that have been re-drilled to 20" inner hole measure and set up with slalom trucks and wheels. Mine will soon have Radikals front and rear, which I'm sure will add a new dimension to the ride. Right now, it has a Radikal front and Split Fire rear with Retro wheels. I'll certainly report on the additional Radikal when it comes. I can't say enough how kick ass they are...here's a link, I hope it's okay I post it. http://www.skaterbuilt.com/news.htm
You can't really see it in the pictures, but the rear truck is mounted a tad bit further back on the tail than on either the Maysey boards or the ConeKillers. The wider nose will certainly cater to people with a more 'surfy' stance. The board reeks of increased control and perspires foot placement. The boards even have a tiny bit of flex and a slight twist, which give 'em a very solid but still springy feel. They feel lively under-foot. My 'Maysey' middle-sized board seems narrow to me now. So far this new board has only been tested in slalom courses...(You know NOT tight and not gs, but slalom. I despise the term hybrid in it's use in describing skateboard slalom courses. I think they should be named in a similar way to alpine skiing events. But that's another q and a.) Anyway, I've been really, really stoked on mine. The wider nose adds to control with complete heel to toe deck under foot.
Earlier today there was slalom testing in front of a buddies house....or at least was until the man had sometime to say about it. (Pictures and video to follow shortly.) Here's the link again, in case you missed it.

Huh??? So ALL the other link droppers here are okay??? BTW, I don't care about what happens on OTHER posting boards...So let me get this straight...Sk8Kings, Pavel, ABEC 11, PPS, etc are all okay in what they do with their posts here?? But as soon as Skaterbuilt gets on here with one it gets booted...WTF???
Now, I'm not here to lecture anyone on the RULES of internet posting board ettiquette. Honestly, I find posting boards silly. But I also find them to be a valuable resource sometimes. I also find it interesting that you would think right off the bat that I'll take some offensive stance against this scenario.
I'm very confused that's all. I see all sorts of what you describe here on your site day in and day out. Sk8Kings constantly post, ABEC 11, Pavel is a huge offender...the list goes on.
Where do YOU draw the line???

Mike,
Link dropping is a particularly tricky problem that forum moderators have had to deal with for many years. Occasionally, posts construed as such are removed on Ncdsa. Link dropping can be so insidious and well organized that I know of discussion forums that flat out prohibit the posting of *any* URL or reference to an outside Web site. Harsh, yes; but really the only way to keep out shills and the like from forums where such behavior is not permitted.
On the other hand, link dropping can also take the form of friendly non-affiliated information sharing. As I said, it's a very difficult problem with monetary drivers behind the dark side that make it all too prevalent.
If you're right now warming up your flames of indignation, please don't lecture me on the Nature of the Internet and hyperlinks ad nauseam. I've read reams on this topic and understand both sides of the issue quite well. Walk a mile in my shoes.

Central Coast Surfer...Do I know you? If this is who I think it is, you should know about surfboards. But since you don't know how to spell my name, I have to assume I don't know you.
Anyway...
First of all, it's spelled MAYSEY...
Second of all, the board is one of the shortest in my quiver at 5'9"... It just so happens to be a fresh copy of a '70's Dyno Fish...it almost couldn't be further from being a longboard there ah...wise-guy.

Hi Mike,
Many thanks for the advice, my setup is close to what you advise, just got to tighten my rear truck. Hopefully will get a chance to chew some cones soon as the UK weather has been a bit wet of late. I tried to surf my locl break yesterday but the beaches are full of planks of wood from a downed cargo ship about 200 mile down the coast. looks impressive but i couldnt get to surf.
Thanks again Ian

TS Set up

Ian, your truck set up sounds fine to me. I ride Radikal in front and Tracker in the rear and I've seen many other boards set up a multitude of ways. The key, in my opinion is the way the trucks are adjusted. I would keep the rear truck very tight, like almost to the point where went you squeeze it with your hand it barely moves. The front truck should be almost floppy loose. I mean, you gotta have some resistance, but basically all your turn should be coming from the front. This way your board has the best of both worlds. You've got the tight rear truck to keep the board from wobbing out at speed but you've got your front truck loose so you can still turn.
Personally, I usually ride pretty soft wheels. 80-82 in the rear and 82-84 in the front. I have ridden very hard wheels in the past and find that they usually roll great but don't hook up like they should if you get yourself into trouble while running through a course. I like to have traction in reserve so to speak in case I need it. The newer wheel compounds roll great even at softer duros.
hope this helps...MM
