I want to congratulate my Radikal Trucks teammate Mike Maysey on another podium at SK8Kings So Cal Outlaw GS Race. Mike, I have to say I am very stoked to have you riding for Radikal Trucks. Thanks I like to ride bigger wheels in the front on certain types of courses. My favorite combo is 77mm Speed Vents in front and 70mm Zig-Zags in the rear. I like the roll speed of big front wheels and the control and acceleration on turns of the smaller wheel.
Keith - Teams Radikal, AXE ARMY & Oust.

Yeah, as a matter of fact I have tried such things. I've only done it a couple times and I THINK it helped, but I'm not certain. On the instances when I did it I rode Avila 80a in the front and Avalon 80a on the rear. I figured I'd get the roll speed of the bigger wheel in the front while maintaining my traction in the rear with the smaller/grippier wheels. I think it worked, but I don't know. I can say for certain I haven't thought of doing it for quite some time. Ever since the newer designed/shaped wheels, the advent of precision trucks, I personally haven't thought of that wheel combo...maybe I should revisit the idea!

hello, do you have any experience with different wheel size front and back - more turny vs more stable?

I don't remember the guys name...he was either a friend of Jack's or Paul's. He came out to a couple spots with us and shot up a bunch of flash cards. I have a bunch more photos from that day of Howard and Dylan Gordon too.

Hey Mike, I usually stay at the Prater's Motel, it's a small family-run dinky motel pretty close to the two main race locations and not too far from the skatepark and there are restaraunts nearby. It's fairly cheap, they revamped the rooms about 2 years ago, most have refrigerators, I think they have air conditioning, as well as the usual TV, shower, etc. Not fancy but not bad either.
I bet you can google-search "Prater's motel Hood River Oregon". They generally are filled as is the whole town that time of year, especially now that Gorge Games has returned from the ashes and draws a lot of people. If you need a phone number and google doesn't work, let me know and I'll dig it up for you at home(I only have internet access at work).
Dang I wish I was racing Hood this year. Schlater - P

Hey Pauliwog...you seem to be well adjusted in the Hood River area, can you give me any tips of where to stay for the race this year? I have travel, both air and rental car squared away, now I just need to find a place to sleep and shower. Ideas???

Yeah, No kidding. Can you believe it's still happening in 2008? I don't think any of us thought about it lasting that long on a persistent group level, even though a lot of us thought on the individual level "I'll just hoard a lot of setups so if it dies again, I'll be setup to do it forever".
The current "heyday" is lasting longer I think than it did in the 70's. Abec11 Stingers and Turner LaCosta's are almost(or soon will be) "vintage" and collectable. Funny thinking about that.

To answer your questions...
Yeah, luckily it was a photo shoot, so we would dive into the course, try to get synced up, take a photo and duck out. Then do it again all the way down the hill.
It was sometime in summer 2001. One of the photos of me from that day (at a different location) was used in a Seismic ad "RACE FACE" that graced the inside cover of International Longboarder in Fall 2001.
Indeed, that's Paul Dunn.
Paul was riding his "White Dove" with Gullwing split axles and Krypto C-62's...blue in front and pink in rear. I was riding a board that Howard Gordan had on hand that day. I think you're right about the trucks with an Indy 101 on front and a Tracker Mid on the back with Hyper Strada wheels.
We've come a long way baby...

Sheesh those lanes are close together!
What year?
I'm assuming that's Dunn in the other lane?
So it looks like you're both on Turner decks
Wheels, Kryptonics?
Looks like Dunn has split axle Gullwings, You've got an Indy front, is your rear truck a Tracker?
Cool Picture for sure - Paul Howard
