Pools n stuff
On 7/30/2003 Gaz wrote in from (217.196.nnn.nnn)

How true this is I don't know-
I was told they are like that because no angles mean less likely to crack and leak, with the earthquakes etc. they get over that way.
There are skateable pools in UK (and Europe)- you just got to know where to look...wink, wink.

Michael, what sort of time does this happen?, I might bring the kids down. And is there any chance I could swap the wide RTX I got from you by mistake for an RTS or standard width RTX?, it's not been used, in fact it's been sitting in the boot of my car for about three months now and Jack's slalom board still has an old extrack on the back...

Pools and stuff
On 7/30/2003 Mike B wrote in from (82.35.nnn.nnn)

Mat, can't make HP on Thursday cos I'm going to see Black Rebel Motorcycle Club at the Forum that night.

As far as pools go, I've always believed the American design was a result of common sense and hygiene. Curved pools are far easier to clean and keep clean than square/rectangular pools, where dirt and germs can lodge in the right angled areas and corners. It's a mystery to me why Europe hasn't caught on to this.

By the way, did you all see that Dave Arnold-built pool on RAD last Saturday? Awesome.

Pool Fluke?
On 7/30/2003 Graham wrote in from (80.0.nnn.nnn)

OK, something that puzzled me back in the 70s and still puzzles me now:- can anyone explain what strange set of circumstances, what weird coming-together of events led to all the pools in southern california having curved bottoms (cough cough)? I've swum in pools in the UK, in France, Spain, Portugal and Turkey. I have never seen a pool with curved transitions. They've all got vertical walls well enough, but they've also got horizontal floors with a perfect 90 degree angle in between. You could drain all the pools in Europe and none would be skateable. Whereas in southern cal empty pool = skateable pool. How this happen?

What can I add?
It was a fantastic day, respect to Clingfilm for a superb course (If a tad knackering) and to Michael for his 5 trips to and fro from his car with reams of skate stuff.
Thanks to Leon for his support (I will always wear it!)
And well done to all the slalomers who made it a great meet.
AS it was Denises first go at her new camera I have rather nice pictures of all of us from the chest down, and lovely pics of cones; and macro type detail of the road surface for anyone who is the slightest bit interested!
Thanks once again for the buzz, you all played your part.
See many of you at HP friday if our weather can hold out.

Jim

Oh! and a fab pub sesh afterwards too guys and gals.

Chlorine Movie in London - Aug 5th
On 7/29/2003 Paul Price - Fibreflex Racing wrote in from (195.92.nnn.nnn)

Had a great day at Eastbourne. I love to slalom in the Sun by the surf! The double elimination worked well for me! I really wanted to get my trophy and prizes from the Mayor of Eastbourne but we all went to the pub instead. Priorities. What happened to Smokestack??! I even went to his house afterwards but no sign!

Had a search on the film Steev mentioned. Looks RAD! Lets all try to make the 8pm showing Tuesday 5th August. Meet at the weatherspoon pub 'moon under water' in Leicester square (they sell TT Landlord ale) from 6.30pm ish. Tickets to the Prince charles cinema are only 2.50 get them first...

Just saw an interesting post on an inline site (yes they have their uses!). The Prince Charles Cinema (off Leicester Sq) is showing 'Chlorine - A Pool skating documentary' on August 5th at 8pm & 9.30pm. Never heard of it so if any of you have & want to enlighten me feel free. I shall probably try to go along. Maybe some of you will too.
