So I've been working on uploading pictures of my skate stuff to imagestaion.com. It works pretty slick, so far I'm impressed with the website. Heres a link to it: http://www.imagestation.com/member/?name=tropicalian Comments welcome...let me know what you guys think.
Also, I just set up the Supaflex I got from Misterbill with some Indy's and flashbacks and I will be sure to get some pics of that today and upload em. Pretty fun setup.

Asphalt surfing on the cold Midwestern flats

45 degrees today and the sun is going down in Northern Illinois. Too late to find a real hill. Pulled out my Exkate X24 battery board from the wall socket where it's been hibernating all winter. Off into the wind. Should've seen the soccer mom's in their SUV's. . . .almost silent except for a smooth electric whine from the back of the board. A quick five miles, carving on the cold flat roads, watching the sun set. So-o-o-o nice. d.

PHXRider, if what you want to do is cruise, the Rolls Rolls will bring you joh. If you measure your skating by the mile, the Rolls Rolls is the item. If BMW really wanted to make a longboard with the spirit of their motorcycles, this would be it. Simple, fast, impeccable manners--the thing even keeps mud off your legs when you ride through unavoidable puddles--and beautiful.
I bought mine about a month and a half ago. Since then it has probably gone 150 miles in rain, wind, night, day, errands or fun. Sometimes I even ride it to work.
When new, the wheels were skittish on wet pavement. Now they're scuffed up, they grip better although this still isn't the board for tight turns in the rain.
You do have to keep closer track of where you're placed on the deck. If you're off by an inch or so, your back foot can run into the rear wheel well.
Call it the "engineered skateboard." Peter went through many design interations before settling on this one, and his care shows. It just plain works. He'll even send you one for test and evaluation. Every part of it was chosen for a specific function. Even the bearings, which are the best quality I've ever used.
Do a search here for more info. Also look at Silverfish Longboarding (silverfish.cc) for more reviews. --Larry

Risers for da BD

I am using 2 stacked DD silicon risers. Anything with about a 1/2 in clearence should do. Don't want those conicals hitting the deck. Even with wheel wells they come close.
Skate safe.

Practically speaking, you are right. When you exceed the strength limit of carbon fiber, it shatters suddenly and spectacularly

I own a sportster on 101mm wheels. It is German (aircraft)engineering at it's finest.

Just two more things: These completes are rolling high tech carbon fiber art. The black deck could be Batman's longboard. The "sportster" deck is Ferarri yellow and rides like one. The only drawback is that the completes are expensive. But look at it this way, you ride it, sponge it off and hang it on your wall as cyberpunk art. It may be $$ for a complete, but it's cheap for sculpture.

PHXRider,
I've got BOTH the black Carbon and the Yellow RollsRolls. Advantages: they are smooth, quiet, great on irregular pavement and very light and easy to push. They are flat decks, which I prefer, and very stiff. The smooth, wheelwells make good places to rest your feet against. I would highly recommend them for carving and commuting, but because the wheels are thin, they are not really trick decks or sliding decks. Not sure how they would perform in the wet either, but I'm not about to use any board after a storm. . . Peter also will sell you an attachment for a windsurfing sail, which would be at least as eyecatching as standing up naked in a yellow Diablo convertible. . . .

Anyone know what happened to this company? I purchased a board a while back and when I got it, the front truck holes were 1/8" off center. I sent the owner (Scott) an e-mail and he said he'd send me a new deck. That was over a month and a half ago, and still no new deck...

Mummy & trucks

I don't like the RII with the mummy, the wheels end up too far toward the center of the board. The trucks need to be around 150mm so the Tracker 149 are an excellent choice. I haven't tried avilas but the avalons seem just right on this board. You will only need 1/8" rubber risers, making a low, fun set-up. It is also a very light set-up, good for carrying in the city, and stable enough for 35mph since the wheelbase ends up 29.5" axle to axle.

ive heard in the past that a good set up for this board is mummy + tracker 149 darts + and turner avalons in 80a but if i was setting this thing up i would set it up with turner avila wheels. oh and i heard that if you put a longer kingpin on the trucks you can put a stimulator on top and bottom. if i could afford it at the moment this would be the board of my dreams. the post is still probably there a page pack.

While we are on the subject, i've got a 32x10 Bulldog, not a complete (mine has Tracker 184s and 60mm NO Skoolz) but easily my favourite non-flexy board. It does the job of my old Dregs Pool Service except the extra width makes it even more stable while the lack of a huge pointless kick-nose makes it easier to throw around. I also love the subtle concave. The only thing i'm not sure about is the griptape. The wavy edges look slighly lame but I like the die-cut 'BDS' too much to re-grip it.

Due to my weak ass "review" a post or 2 back let me make it clearer eh?
We had some fine weather here that last few days. Got into the 40's twice... oooohhhhhhhhh......
Rode the Bulldogs as set-up in my earlier post at the local "skatepark". I use the term loosly since it's basically a street course with weak ass tranny's and a silly 1/2 pipe. But I got to feel the vibe and that's what I'm writin bout here.
I rode it hard, I rode it wet. I put it away as I left it. I pulled it out again. It still rode great.
The wheels [bright red dbl conicals] are manna from heaven. Reminded me of my old Gyro double cons from back in the day.
The deck is a Godsend. Really..... No spoon shaped, kick nosed new school crap here. Just good ole flat PIG.
Quality is way up! I mean way up. Compared to my new Vision rehash it's a Porsche to a Yugo.
The wheelbase could feel squirrely to some but I ride slalom mostly so it feels fine to my size 12's.
The new Trackers?
The name is Tracker, that's all I need to say.
Well done my bro Wes and Foz.

Just got me a Bulldogs Gas Head with Dbl conicals and the new Sixtracks.
Now this is killa!
Took it for a quick ride around the patio [snow is getting deep tonight!], and it rocks!
Sweet old school 10X30 flat with NO NOSE KICK.
The wheels are perfect.
My next door neihbors kid was drooling over it and he's a new school type.
Get one and forget the Vision and lame ass Powell reissues.
Bulldogs rule!

hey skatenedds.... Although the longboards mentioned are all excellent choices for sure and you won't go wrong, someone has to call attention to the newest, most underrated longboards called JAM LONGBOARDS. They have the BIGGEST sleds that I've ever seen, and I recently bought a 60" Tuna and an 80" Silverback. I dig the subtle flex in the 17 ply!!! birch and the massive 101 mm Abec 11 Flywheelson the 80 incher.. Other companies have names like Supercruiser and Big Daddy, but those boards are frikkin' wimpy compared to these mofos. These are absolutely the smoothest boards I've ever ridden, and I've been skating/surfing since high school in San Diego (1973) on many sizes and styles of boards. Truly, these are boards that capture that classic longboard SURFING feel and vibe and are hand crafted in the USA. Do yourself a favor and break the mold. Seriously. Check it out. Enjoy. www.longboard.net
