Happy 2005 To The World Wide Skate Community-
On 12/31/2004 North Carolina Longboarder- DownHill Billies wrote in from United States  (166.82.nnn.nnn)

I want to wish a most happy, fulfilling, blessed, and joyful New Year to everyone in the great Skate World of ours. My prayers for 2005 are that you, your families, and your friends find 2005 as special year filled with all of these things.

Let us all keep in our thoughts and prayers the victims and survivors of the terrible tsunami that has decimated South Asia. I encouraged all of you to make a donation to the relief agency of your choice no matter how great or small. Every dollar will help, even if you only sent $1. This tragedy is by far the largest disaster of this type I have heard of in my 42 years on this planet and I pray that no one has to witness such a horrible loss of life ever again. According to most recent reports the death toll is well over 100,000 people and will grow exponentially if relief does not arrive soon.
The one thing that I have learned from posting and reading on NCDSA and Slalomskateboarder.com is that we are a community of people who care about one and other deeply and for our sport. Let's us as individuals take a minute to look into our own souls and do what we fill is appropriate to help these people who have had such devastation. Regardless of our different spiritual beliefs we are all part of this race we call human. Please do what you can no matter how great or small. I am small business owner and I am currently reviewing the different relief organizations and plan to pledge part of our proceeds on a monthly basis throughout 2005 to their efforts.

G Flash's Schoolin!
On 12/29/2004 North Carolina Longboarder- DownHill Billies wrote in from United States  (166.82.nnn.nnn)

G-Flash: reedin riten and rithmatic don't matter none to no DownHill Billy! All we 's a doin is skatin man!

Seriously, The DownHill Billies are going to try to meet whenever possible. I am hoping that this summer we can do something maybe a little bigger that includes a trip to the new skate park in Charlotte if it happens to be open by then...

Speaking of brewskis, the owner of the local sports bar is going to bring his son out to to watch the skating so he can show him another side to the sport. If we put on a good show, the first round Saturday night could be on him....(now that is wishful thinking). Most DownHill Billies have the philosophy that they never met a free beer they didn't like!

Talk to you soon. Later Dude.

Statesville DownHill Billies Jan 15th Skate Jam
On 12/28/2004 North Carolina Longboarder- DownHill Billies wrote in from United States  (166.82.nnn.nnn)

DownHilll Billies and Any One Else Interested (All Are Welcome):

The Statesville Skate Jam (Slalom, Carving, and what have ya) will be Saturday January 15th.

Arrive at my house any time in the morning and we will look to head out to The Spot at Noon.
(Drop me an e-mail for directiions to my house).

For those of you who have not seen them yet go to the link below to see where we are planning to ride.
http://photobucket.com/albums/v329/DownHillBillies/

The local crew is mostly into carving and bombing but are stoked to have the slalom crew in for a jam. The format will be that there will be no set format and we will just skate, hang out, take pics, and just get to know each other. I am hoping that it will also be a chance for us newbie slalomers to learn something and practice..

I can host up to 5 or 6 at my house for any of you who want to stay over Saturday night if you don't mind crashing in the basement. As I have said before, my house is within walking distance to a great sports bar, pizza place, chinese takeout, subshop, fancier restaurants, etc. so that night we might all mozy down to the local sports bar to hang out and grab some grub.

I look forward to meeting my new skate buds in person.

downhill is a distant memory, so the bowls will

Well the birds are nice but very hard to find, i can normally count on one hand how many people my age i see in basel in a day, wierd but hey. Did everyone else get nice stuff (and give nice stuff too obviously)?

Longboard Decks w/ Concave
On 12/25/2004 Henrik wrote in from Hungary  (195.56.nnn.nnn)

Hi all. Happy Holidays. I've got a question on what people are running for longboard decks with flex AND concave. We've been running FiberFlex Funshapes, and they're great, but a little concave would be good for a little more secure footing. Any suggestions? I'm running ABEC 11 Flywheels (83mm, 75a), Exskate trucks, and Curve bearings. In Boulder, it helps to have a fiberglass laminated board, since regular plywood boards warp like crazy in the dry weather. Thanks, H www.curveinc.com

Bongs and Billies?
On 12/24/2004 North Carolina Longboarder- DownHill Billies wrote in from United States  (166.82.nnn.nnn)

Everyone is asleep now at the house but me in anticipation of the coming gift unwrapping free-for-all that is Christmas morning at our house and I thought I would check in here.

Joseph: To answer you question, the word billies is just a part of the word Hillbilly, which is basically anyone from a mountain region that sees him or herself as good ol downhome folk. The Beverly Hillbillies, Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs, drinkers of Mountain Dew (and I am not talking about the soft drink), Junior Johnson, are all examples of Hillbillies. As far as the bong reference, I imagine at one time of some of the members of the DownHill Billies lives, a bong may or may not have been a part. LOL

Merry Christmas Joseph! (a very appropriate name for this time of year-One of the most unselfish men in history.)

God bless you all on this most special night,

Hey all. I will not be going to the football on boxing day, notably as i am in switzerland at the moment(cue cries of "damn you! i want to be in tht land of longboardingdreams too!!!"), but unfortunately i am in Basel, the most extreme north-west city in switzerland, with very small hills, and i have no longboard with me either :( We are here over Christmas staying at my dad`s, with no TV, only a slow net connection and little to do. YEY CHRISTMAS TOMORROW!!!!!
I look forward for a Tshirt, if you need money for printing etc etc or a host for the site i can probably help as well(my friend could be convinced to host if bribed :) check his site for my sixthform: upper6th.kicks-ass.net )

canada may be better than the US (in your opinion) but at least we've got the accent to kick all of you :P "one does not approve of your ungentlemanly conduct" hahahahhahahahahaha.
Why is there so much animosity anyway? US, canada, UK, switzerland, (france) etc, we are all longboarders and people, dont go around bragging about stuff. Like i could go and brag about my 8 mile skate today, with the wind at 90' on the way and head-on for the way back, but i don't (oops i just did lol)

On the subject of the GS board i was looking(probably) for, those boards all look good, mainly i liked the pocket pistol GS 36" board, as it has some really good looking materials, instead of wood which always goes manky from the damp and leaf litter kicked up by my wheels.

HellYEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! dang that was some good stuff y'all

was that ok Marion? hehe

That looks like a blast, bro!!

I still need to get y'all to come to my SSS before too long. I haven't been able to hit there for a couple months. It closes at dark; so weekdays during the winter are pretty much off. Normally I'm either by myself, or my wife is timing me yelling "pump with your legs more" (my own little Mickey- I keep trying to get her to yell "You're going to eat lightning and crap thunder").
