I am building an aluminum spine deck for downhill boarding. I commute every day on my skateboard and half the commute is uphill. So weight is a major factor for me. Has anyone had any experience with this setup to maximize strength to weight? I’m using a 4” x .5” x 42” for my spine.

Hi to everyone.
I'm from Germany and a beginner in Longboarding. I have a view questions about it. And i hope that someone can help me in here.
Is it correct that Longboards are made for Streetsurfing and stuff like that?
Someone told me that they are'nt made for halfpipes and so.
I just wan to know what I can do with my Longboard. I don't want to ride it in the pipe. I know, that they are downhillraces and stuff like that. And that is what I want to know and what to do to improve my riding. I hope that i get lots of answers.

I say that the longboard GS at WLAC should be the Economy Challenge! All riders on Eddys boards! Now that would be a blast! I have one set up with racing wheels, I know we could get Ed to bring out a couple, It only seems fitting to give some respect back to ED after all the support he has given to all the slalom raceing throughout!

There ARE hills to bomb in fla....
Palm Beach gardens? the only one I can think of in that area would be the bridge
that connects the mainland to A-1A, the Lake Worth Pier, also known as kruesler Park.
(sp?)...there was a road around there called Lucerne..this may be the road to the bridge...
Serious hill bombing can be found in a town called "Howie-in-the-hills", just
NW of Winter Garden, in the Orlando area. quite a cruise from Palm Beach....up I-75 about 200 miles.
These roads are almost void of cars....I haven't been there in about 10 years
so I don't know the pavement conditions, but unlike here (Mass) there are no
potholes.

What part of FL are you from? I`m in Hollywood. Heading up to Palm Beach Gardens this sunday for some parl carve train and then hill bombing afterwards. Email if you`re in the area or just to through down some lines...literally.

i've got a ff42 (randal 180 and 65mm no skoolz 88a) that under my 16stone is superflexy, but that makes it an ideal board for downhill and sliding to me. i tried usuing a tvs parker for a while but could'nt get the feel i wanted on a hill with zero flex. i love that ff flex snapping up when you unweight setting up the next turn.
but if you must get another board, and after all you can never have enough, for what its worth i've ridden a comet 40 park briefly in a skatepark and it was rigid under my weight. nice board though.
the thing i'd consider is not what flex to get but how much flex you want. park and hill are two differnt things and indeed thats what quivers were invented for. you should also look at wheelbase as the park and spoons differ i think at the same lengths.
apart from that i think the spoons are interesting boards, if i saw a deal on one and had some spare cash at the time i'd be tempted myself so i could try one.
you should also call shiner (uk importers - www.shiner.co.uk) and see if there is a stockist near you, that way you may at least get to stand on one.

Comets are great. If you like the Fibreflex, you will probably like the comets.
There is a huge difference between the Spoon and Park models. On the Spoon, the kicktail is much more mellow -- like a gentle curve. The "spoon" up front is not hype -- it really works to anchor your foot in and give it a sort of "rocker" feel with low CG.
I have both (in the 40"). I skate ditches a lot, and I really prefer the Park. I think, however, that if I were really into hills, the spoon would be better.
One thing -- watch the wheelbite. Neither board has the cutaway shape of the Fibreflex. Using Super-Gs, you may need some additional risers, even with Randals.

I ride in the UK & its my birthday soon, I’m opting for a new longboard. I’ve been using a G&S Fibreflex 44’’ pintail for the last couple of years with 180 Randals and now Gravity 90a Super G wheels. Trucks and wheels seem perfect however the fibreflex is just too flexy as I am becoming much more interested with combining downhill with lots of sliding (been watching too many Gravity videos) & could also do with a kick tail. I’m looking for the perfect set up. The best board in my opinion having looked through all the blurb is the Comet Downhill Proflex Spoon or Park , but which one to get, the 44’’, or 40’’ pool board or downhill, medium or hard flex. As I never have the option to ride before buying, I was hoping that someone out there could advise me. Alternatively any other recommendations for other boards that meet my requirements would be appreciated.

Hey Guys and happy new year from this side of the pond, just wanted tyo say that I find it amazing that over here most of the slalom boys or FLW's (Flat land wobbelers!) seem to have a stick up there arse too! There are some noticable execptions and to those boys I am eternally greatefull ass it means that I can still hold some affection for the sport. The question I always wonder is why is ther such a different attitude though, after all they are sk8ers and most of the time, most of the guys are really nice guys too. It just seems you put a wobbeling stick in there hands and then they change - kinda like the Goofy cartoon where he is a mild mannered nice guy until he gets into his car. I really hope none of the slalom boys take offence as none is intended, this is meant to be a light hearted poke!!! LOL

I met Ed in 1976 @ the Euclid "U" Ditch in Fullerton, California.
That place was CROWDED back then.

thanks for the cool words, Iam 16, I like skateboarding, I want to do it all.
the slalom guys have sticks up there butts, I want to do it so I guess I have to learn how to have a stick up my butt like them.

My wife and I were skating around on the Bay Trail north ofSan Franisco International Airport... just pumping along on the flats by Oyster Point Harbor exit off of Hwy 101.
Started noticing cops everywhere, multiple squad cars strategically positioned, officers standing around looking tense. Cop gave me a double take when he saw me carrying my new Ed Economy over my shoulder to get around a mud puddle. Once he realizes its just a huge skateboard and not a shoulder-fired surface-to-air missile he relaxes a bit then scowls at me, turns and spits. A few minutes later a police helicopter arrives, and begins flying over the shore near the airport.
Then the copter starts following us. I kid you not. This copter must have followed us around for fifteen minutes before it flew off. Maybe they thought I had a missile launcher stapped under the board or something, I dunno. It was definately the most paraniod I have EVER felt skating. Glad I forgot to roll a joint that day, or the paranoia woulda been worse.
In all fairness they didn't harass us or anything...just watched us from above for a while. Kind of a buzzkill, tho. Then all the squad cars and copter just left. Very weird. I hope they didn't make all that fuss just over a coupla longboarders. They musta been responding to soemthing besides us...but it was freakin weird.
Lesson: Dont carry your 57" longboard over your shoulder near a major american airport during a code orange terror alert. And forget about skating those parking garages at the airport.
