Was thinking it would be cool to do a skate to X Games Austin. Is that even possible? It's at Circuit of the Americas on June 5-8. Great music line up Bad Religion, Flaming Lips among others and a super solid big air lineup. You can check the invitees here...http://xgames.espn.go.com/events/2014/austin/invitedathletes/

I have a 38.5 x 10 at the widest concave point and was looking for mph with a board sized 38x10 ...... Also the current record of 80.416 ?? is with size wheel & board ? Thanks in advance for accurate info. I live in HB So Cal and have some fun steep hills a few at slopes 8 to 1 for 40- 50 yds+ it pretty much looking sharply at downward angle and mach'in! I run a 2.25 x 2.25 dia wheel , 38 " x 10" board amd independent trucks and apec bearings. Im 44 and weigh like 208 & 6'3 tall and routinely hit 40 mph down HB hills .... Lost a wheel recently , but more equipment confident now with the tube of lock tight seal on both trucks blts and on all 4 wheels, losing that wheel sucked bad, but living to mach another day with nothing broken. I'll be attending a city meeting at the end of May to get this issue onto an upcoming meeting agenda, so the more signatures and comments the better!!!

The city has a large network of paved multi-use trails and I have been cycling and skating on them for about a year now. Just yesterday, ran into the ranger at the one park and he informed me that skateboarding is prohibited in the park. I had never seen any signage to that affect, but he did show me one sign in the middle of the park with a page of park regs. posted and in the fine print it has this: (see links on pavedwave.org Legality post)
Digging into the city code I find the text of the 38.20g regulation and here it is: (see links on pavedwave.org Legality post)
They allow inline and roller skates, scooters, push and pedal bikes but no boards?
Anyone have any good tips/pointers on how to get this situation changed? Would like to see some specific things to say or similar cases in another city where something like this was overturned.
I have sent an inquiry to the city council staff to clarify this 20 year old notice. With reference to the roller/inline skating, they mention no reckless skating and have speed limits posted for that and cyclists (15 MPH). I can see prohibiting unsafe behavior in any activity, but to ban a given activity outright with no explanation is wrong.
All the surrounding cities allow skateboards on the multi-use trails and there is even one trail that goes right through a skate park. Been by that area many times and none of the park skaters venture more than 100' from the park as those sorts of boards/trucks/wheels don't do well on the somewhat rough asphalt. At the Mt. View trails, I don't see any "skate-able" terrain outside of miles and miles of flat paved trails. Aside from the strip of pavement along the tops of the levees, it is gravel/dirt/grass and they have that all off limits for the wild life. Out there I would be more concerned with BMX bikes coming in and riding off trail yet bicycles of all sorts are allowed.
The ranger was pretty cool about it though. He let me continue skating and was impressed with the board, the pads and helmet and that I was not some "young punk" out joy riding. The other puzzling thing is that the trail I was riding on was part of the SF Bay Trail network and is signed as such. And the Bay Trail is mandated to be full multi-use with the only restriction of no motorized vehicles. This trail just skirts the outer boundary of the park. I could see prohibiting skate boards or any non-pedestrian access from the center of the park where folks like to walk around the lake, most of the trails there are dirt anyway.
The city also got federal funds to build at least part of these trails according to the huge sign they have at the far end where they are working to extend the trail and I wonder if there are any federal mandates that trump city regulations in this area?

Last weekend Andy Andras flew up from Florida to Eugene Oregon to try cracking the 250-mile 24-hour ultraskating record. He came close, particularly given some of the worst long stretches of hard pounding rain the Northwest was able to dish out over night!! He ended with 3rd place in the world, at 230.4 miles, and Conan Isaac Gay, the host of this event, also nailed 200 miles. More shots and short recap is here:

@TWhalen - You can widen your Splitfire with Radikal axles available from Sk8kings: Click here for link. They also have their own similar axles but currently only up to 1/4". The 3/4" Rad axles will make a split ~115mm, 1" will make it ~140mm, etc. Much stronger than using spacers.

Re-posting this for Joe Ingersoll who's skating 24 hours starting from Noon today at Greenlake park, Seattle. Base camp this time is not at the usual location, it's over by the Bathhouse theatre parking lot, at the top of the only "hill" the lake has.
http://www.northwestlongboarding.com/nwlb/images/forum/847GREENLAKE_POSTER.jpg
"The event will start at noon at green lake and run 24hrs+ until I literally fall off my board. Im looking for participants and donators alike. There will be a sign up table at the event for those who wish to ride and a paypal station for those willing to donate. The donations will be per mile and we are always looking for moral supporters. As of right now we have REDBULL , Indoor Garden, Piece of Mind, Aquafina, FIVEIMLE LONGBOARDS and a few other companies wanting to participate. .
I am planning on a couple mini games to go along with continuously pushing around the lake, like poker runs with playing cards. For every lap you get a card, after 7 laps we play poker. Best hand wins prize.
REMEMBER all the cash donated is and will be going in full to the Puget Sound Cancer Society for saving my life. I owe these people alot. So lets sk8 hard earn some cash.
Any more info please ask, this is a spur-of-moment event put on by my, someone whos never thrown an event.
Ive been on this project for quite sometime and here is the exact email i am sending to companies and individuals whom i think might help. if you or anyone you might know would like to spread the word please feel free to copy and paste this in an email with my return email address. thank you for your support NWLB let make this happen.

Hi my name is Joe Ingersoll i am 23 years old and live in Seattle WA,
I am seeking support with sponsorship with an event I am planning and holding in Aug2011 . "Miles4Money" A long distance longboard push/ money pledge. Something I've wanted to do for years and its a thought I reinvented in order to give back to whatever higher power kept me on this earth. I am donating miles turned into money through fundraising to the Puget Sound Cancer Society for saving My Mother and I's life. I myself am a Cancer survivor "stage 4 Hodgkin’s lymphoma", as well as my mother "stage 2" . . Im am holding this event here in Seattle at Green Lake, a loop that is almost 3 miles long in which i plan on longboarding around for as long as possible, 24+hours. I want to use this location so that my community can come down donate, support and skate along as well as getting as much coverage as possible. I am seeking ____ as a sponsor today because i believe in order to reach my goals I need to reach out to people and companies that have supported me through out life. I seek proven and dedicated organizations as well as individuals for I am thoroughly dedicated to my cause. Thanks you for supporting me through out the years with quality reassurance and products.

Adrenalina Marathon news, RAGBRAI update, and Thanks from the Distance crowd!!

Thanks Adam! Great to see the forum back to its soulful look and feel. Distance skateboarding and LDP got a lot of its early momentum right here on NCDSA. Guys like Subsonic and events like the Portland Pushers and Broadway Bomb were way ahead of the curve and now it's just proving itself. The distance scene isn't some trend, the outlaw push races keep slowly and steadily blowing up each year, and now some of them are getting HUGE.
It took me a while to get back here, since Adrenalina just knocked out a much anticipated skateboard marathon in NYC with the kick off to a 4-race "World Tour" for 2011. Jack Smith and I were race officials, and the 1st place guy took home $15,000 and our NW bro Robin McGuirk nabbed $2500 for 3rd!! Women also landed podium prizes starting at $3000 for 1st. And they're doing this 3 more times this year-- Puerto Rico is coming up fast August 28th, after that Texas in October, and Florida in November. All the details and race registration are on adrenalinaskateboardmarathon.com
And check out the NASDAQ -- Adrenalina gang got to do the market close:
This first trip to NYC blew my mind. Even without a legal rubber stamp like Portland's, skateboarding is mostly ACCEPTED on New York streets as a true means of transportation. Up here in WA we're all too used to setting up cones then have the cops show up and shoot it down citing liability based on 40-year old laws-- but the day after Adrenalina's marathon just after setting up a couple slalom courses under the Manhattan bridge, six NYPD show up on their bikes -- and THIS is how they responded to our course...
http://www.youtube.com/embed/MMhLr2Gq8Vk
Needless to say the NYPD restored my faith in cops who recognize good people doing good things for themselves and for the environment, so they can move to busting on real crimes.
Another cool thing is the guy I mentioned below who attempted RAGBRAI (whoisblake.com) got thumbs up the whole way from the rest of the biking crowd. Apparently he didn't make the entire ride, but some other skateboarder named Jason did. That's phenomenal mileage to throw down in one week.
The USADSA is another idea that was spawned from the energy rolling off the 1st Adrenalina Marathon last November - it's like the IGSA for Distance Skateboarding -- helping out on logistics and insurance for sanctioned races, check out USADSA.org for our Mission Statement and the cast of characters behind it.
Stoked to see this forum picking up steam again and bringing skaters together to session.
