shell toe addidas
On 1/14/2000 FUZZ wrote in from (193.62.nnn.nnn)

I used to skate in addidas but they allways fell to pieces.
Just recently (well last summer actually) I bought a pair of Addidas Shell Toes, cool as f**k, hip-hop tastic, etc, etc.
But cruising around wearing a pair of shorts and these strapped to my feet was a big mistake...
You read the articles on heel pain? Well wearing the addidas I got it, my ankle (pushing foot) was in agony for about 2 weeks - put me out of skating and out of surfing for longer...
Like me and Hizzout said, GET SHOES WITH ARCH AND IF POSSIBLE ANKLE SUPPORT...
You'll regret it if you don't!
Addidas are crap for skating, just keep 'em for wearing out to the pub.

Sperry Topsiders
On 1/13/2000 Lindsay wrote in from (202.37.nnn.nnn)

Footwear is for me an ultra critical thing...I like Sperry
Topsiders, which are 'boat shoes' with a really thin flexy sole.

PS. Longboarding for me is about relaxed, clean style, sometimes
only a thing that can be felt by the rider, not always percieved
by the onlooker.

adidas
On 1/13/2000 todcar wrote in from (209.178.nnn.nnn)

at the GRA race in west la, I think Gary hardwick had the same addidas and said he was sponsored by them/got em for free. They looked cool and I would rather avoid the new school shooz. Where can I get the adidas? PS have you noticed how 2/3rds of the ads in the new school magazines are shoe ads? Like it makes that big of difference. If skateboarding well was all about shoes, barefoot riding would never have existed and the sport wouldn't have started; Alva and the dogtown boys would have been hindered by their chuck taylors and vans; basically the new school shoe thang is total BS - just another way for "radical" skaters to separate themselves from the common man - which appears to be a full time job. IF someone knows of an extra hard rubber sole shoe with good arch and ankle support - that's the shoe.

ADIDAS
On 1/13/2000 DT wrote in from (209.223.nnn.nnn)

Adidas makes some really good shoes. I personally try to stay away from shoes with too thick of a sole. (ex. new school skate shoes) because i like to feel the board with the balls and heel of my foot vs one solid flat foot. This helps more in speedboarding when your in your tuck and changing up your stance for braking and turns. The Adidas shoes (i forget the model, but i'll find out) has a very durable rubber on the bottom that sure lasts a long time.

Brake Shoes
On 1/13/2000 Matt wrote in from (207.252.nnn.nnn)

What about good cheap brake shoes for downhilling and playing in traffic when you need to foot drag a lot? Anyone have any cheap good ideas?
I think that my next pair will be from one of those discount department stores. I have seen some pretty durable thick soled sneakers there for cheap. Never tried
them though.

Shoes
On 1/12/2000 Bob wrote in from (192.73.nnn.nnn)

If you like the good ol' converse chuck taylor, you might also try the converse One Star. It is the same shoe as the Chuck, but it is made of suede (or whatever that stuff is), not canvas, which makes it last longer.

I know that ollies are not a popular topic here, but if you do ollies, this shoe does not get a quick ollie-hole like the canvas chuck.

Shoes
On 1/12/2000 Hizzout wrote in from (4.18.nnn.nnn)

I agree with Fuzz. Shoes should have good arch support and ankle support. I've seen posts regarding ankle and heel pain due to heel spurs. My doctor said shoes with ankle support should help.

I use DC skate shoes, the Mantis series. Very good shoes..but kind of expensive.

Downhill motion 10 out of 10? I've got a pretty dodgy copy of it, but I would'nt say a 10 out of 10 ...maybe 9...
Got the Gravity Slides one - not bad, good soundtrack (except for the Buttons tune), plenty of fast carving and tricks, although not enough downhill stuff...
I ain't really into longboard kinda surf, so can't watch plank walking on land/sea coz I usually can only stand about ten minutes of it... don't get me wrong, I'm not dissing longboard (old-skool), I'm just not into it...
I want to see deep gouges and carves, a couple of slides chucked in for good measure...everyone's been ranting on about this BIG STICK video, should I get it?

I posted a couple of reviews..
http://www.geocities.com/Pipeline/Valley/3125/Videos.html

Other good videos...
Gravity "slides".

"Skater Dater". This was just posted for sale on NCDSA last week. That is the dude I got the vid from, he is way cool.

"Five Summer Stories" A small, but cool section on skateing.

"Bones birgade video show". Not too bad, killer slideing section.

Rich from Toes Over recommends "Tip Time" Still have not been able to find that one, but I have not looked too hard.

There is an video on the "Ocean City Skatepark". I have not ordered it yet, but it is supposed to be good.

There are many "stars" that post here. That is what makes NCDSA real cool. How many other sports can the average joe personally e-mail the pros of their favorite sport? Not only the pros, but pretty much every major longboard company hangs out here too!

Manu was doing the downhill skate, and some very phat slides for the camera. Very cool.

One thing I don't understand about the Big Stick video, (for those who have seen it) who is that guy laying down in the weeds with all the people around him and why in the hell is he so pissed off??

I just realised, if he starts reading this his head is gonna swell to the size of a beach ball...

Yeah, not too bad of a video. Actually quite enjoyable. Lots of carving, but lots of new school. It is cool cause there are tons of people in the video from all over. Sometimes I get sick of the same team riders doing the same old stuff. This has lots of variaty. Good job S9, at least we know you are listening!

Hey A. Nony Mouse, thanks for the video recommendation. I've heard a lot of good things about the Big Stick vid, so I ordered a copy of it yesterday. My sliding skills are getting a bit better, but I'd still love to see some of the big guys do it. Easier to learn by example.

slak ,is kind of like leway ,letting it slide ,a cop can "cut you you some slack" if he catches you speeding and lets you off with a warning, kind of like tonight when I walked up to the top of my hill for my first ride and a cop car was standing across the street at the crest of the hill looking straight at me as I checked the traffic put on my slider gloves and pushed off.

I was with Namon that day at the parking garage. We actualy got slack twice that day. The second time was from a crazy lady with a shopping cart. She realy didn't like us, she yelled obscenities at us.

Another case was when ben(former shortboarder) and I were bombing Burma. There were these total hicks in one of the fornt lawns and they were looking at us funny. On the way down one of them said something like, "is that a surfbord you got." The second time they yelled at us.

I havn't been back since, I've seen Deliverence.
