CliffSliders and other sliding gloves

Hey Cliff thanks again for the gloves!
for those that are unfamiliar with Cliff Sliders, they are a sliding glove that has been designed and produced by none other than Cliff Coleman. They are a very comfortable glove with velcro on the palms, they connect to a set of quality sliding plates also with velcro. The plates disconnect from the gloves via velcro, so you can use your hands. i will see if i can post a picture of them.
since these arent quite available you might want to make your own....
if you use the search function , use words like sliding , gloves, etc.

Yeah, those gloves are no good. I tore half the palms off my $35 downhill mtb gloves in one bail off my longskate. For mountain boarding we use big burly leather work gloves with those cheesy rollerblade wristguards over 'em. If you hurt your hands in those, whatever you did probably killed you.

hey fuzz, those gloves wont hold up at all. your best bet would be to get some leather garden gloves from a hardwear store. they aren't as stylish, but they are much cheaper, and more durable. later, rob

I'm sick of scraping my hands pulling/attempting slides... I've got wrist guards, but I'm after some decent mountain bikey/moto x/bmx style gloves - you know, like Troy Lee Designs, Scott, Alpine Stars...that kinda thing. I need ones with thick leather/rubber palms, don't look stupid, and don't cost a fortune... Anyone know of some gloves (no more than $25 - their gonna wear out pretty quick) and where I can score them? My hands are starting to grind away...and my poor little monkey is beginning to feel neglected!
Yours painfully FUZZ xxx

Vans Oldskool Hi-Tops are key! I've tried em all, Vans hold up best and you feel your board like you were barefoot. throw in your basic Dr.schols and you're set.

Brakeboard has yet to be released in the USA. Brakeboard is an Australian company developing braking systems for long and short boards. They won't be liked by all skaters but I don't skate without mine now. Brakeboard opens up a whole new style of downhill skating. Check out www.brakeboard.com

On 1/18/2000 SHOES AND ORTHODICS
wrote in from

CAT, I got one cortizone shot in my left foot and realized it didn't help the situation much so I'm not messing with them. I work in a shoe store and I was talking to a marathon runner yesterday. He told me the shots are bs and they weaken your ligaments if you get to many of them. I also developed a minicus problem in my left knee and I been through therapy, MRI, and seeing an orthopedists. The runner said it could be because my custom orthodics have been throwing me off balance and causing me knee pain. He suggested I take them out and I did and I notice I'm not getting the knee cracking all the time like I used too. I'm seeing my orthopedists tonight and I'm gonna bring this up to him. When I skate again I'm gonna use thick rubber insoles in my vans and chucks, they actually feel better than my orthodics. The runner said I'm gonna have foot pain the rest of my life, but it's better than developing knee problems. Oh well, I'm also a runner, I skate, and I'm always on my feet, my podiatrists said I'm just one of those active people. No pain no gain

The Orthodics are really good and should not cost more than ten bucks, they even have cheaper ones, but alas they are from a successful(int.sellout)skate co. so most of you won't bother. But they're definitely excellent.

Here's a real tip for all you vintage shoe lovers (like me) out there:
Next time you go buy a pair of Chucks to skate in, get a pair of Spenco (or similar) insoles for them. These are a thin pad layer with a molded arch and heel support (of slightly firmer pad). These will last through two pairs of "skate-Chucks". The combination costs less than all the "boutique" skate shoes out there and works really well. Old-school (and I mean WAY old) Rules! You are all great,fuzz-i love you !Its fresh to start a monday morning with all these comments about the right shu. (and to imagine the smell of them after a busy day....)
O.K. Isn`t it important to wear shoes w. a good cushion sole like w. an airpad? My Doc discovered a heel sporn at my pushing foot and recommended me to use that kind of shoe. So? The Converse I know and the Osiris of my little brother are much too hard on the sole.uuuääääääähhh. And plus I love to feel the board ,w. fat soles I often hit the board when I jump on . I know you`ll understand! Does anybody knows the X-ONE by Vans? SXE Phil ;Boy, stop these cortizone injections!Try strong bandages, whatever;sport should keep healthy -if you need strong medicine theres something wrong. But i dont wanna preach...Meeeeoooooooooouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuwwwwww wwww:-)

The model that works so well is the "Lance Mountain" skate shoes. They are very well suited to speedboarding as well as carving runs. The shoes Gary was wearing, are the "Rebels" these shoes are even better but, were never released into stores.
Re: Fuzz
the reason the toe shells didnt work to well, is that those shoes are made for casual use and best left for hitting up nightclubs.

i use chuck t's...just because i had the shoe before i started longboarding. they're a great shoe for skating in; it's like barefoot cruising without the risk of mashing yr toes up into oblivion. about their incompatibility with shortboarding: i wear the same shoes long- and shortboarding, thanx to the miracle of duct tape.

Since everyone is talking about what they wear on their feet when they skate I guess I'll let eveyone know what I perfer to wear. Personally I skate with chucks and canvas vans. I like how they feel under my feet while riding, you can really feel the board. Only problem is there is no support with these shoes and someone like me who has high arches and a heel spur and is constantly on my feet I start to feel pain after a while. I got custom orthodics but they only help alittle (they cost me $425 out of my pocket!). I tried skating in my New Balance running shoes but they don't give the same feeling as my chucks and vans. Plus I don't wear leather, only cruelty free shoes. I thought about getting a pair of DC's because they look like they might have the right support plus they make leathless shoes, but I really don't like new school skate shoes, I don't really like how they look and I agree with todcar that it has become a big business and that's bullshit. Oh well, I love my chucks and I guess I'll just have to go back to my podiatrists and get some more cortizone shots in my feet. Oh yeah, if your into old school skate shoes and you live in the NYC area, than you should check out Magic shoes on Bleeker st. They sell all the old style vans (two tones, checker boards, cartoons), vision street wears, and lots of chucks. A very cool store for people into old school skate shoes.
