Great discovery @ Vans retail store

I finally found some modern skate shoes that feel comfortable when tied! The Vans Viggen has a tongue that's thinner and more pliable than most of the newer skate shoe designs. And anyone not wanting the smooth tread that many of the skate shoes have been designed with is in luck, the Viggen's tread is similar to Vans' traditional waffle pattern. If enough people show, with their spending practice, what kind of shoe is acceptable, perhaps the company will catch on, and I won't be faced with this problem in the future. This is the shoe (copy and paste): http://shop.vans.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prmenbr=2&prrfnbr=12601&pass_gender=76 It shows the price of the adult sizes as $60. I bought mine yesterday on sale for $40 at a Vans retail store. The website also only shows 2 colors available, but the ones I got are greyish beige, with only the logo and some tiny bits of trim being a dark color.

Where can I buy grip tape that is 6 feet long by 1 foot wide? I made my own longboard deck and it doesn't have any grip tape. I didn't want to buy seperate packages of grip tape but that is probally what i will have to do. Thankyou.

I don't want any special delivery letters. This is just something I like to do. If anything maybe there can be a stash of logos sitting somewhere. Whatever prople want to do with them would be at their discression. Artwork can be supplied in either vector-based artwork (line art for any vinyl cutting program) or raster-based. (pixel art such as a scan, or photo)
Perhaps someone with some server space could store the bunch? I don't have any space available.
All I would need is something to copy from. Ideally a pic of the actual sticker would be best, but a file that you see on a webpage may work too.
Anyone got any they can send?
I'll bust a few out, and you guys tell me if they're ok.

Filteredsoul, usually recreating a logo or a trademark is not a problem as long as it is for your own, non-commercial use. When you sell it, or produce in great enough numbers to get the attention of the original vendor, then I suspect a nice special delivery letter is headed your way.

yes i would be interested. SIMS & Toft, orignal style SC, Road Rider, old Hobie diamond, are just a few. i don't want to destroy the remaining stuff for histories sake. but it would be fun to recondition some old boards i have and maybe put a few on the truck.

I've seen where some folks desire scans or artwork of old-school stickers for various projects. I don't know if there are any legal issues associated with re-creating unobtainable stickers, but it's one of the few talents and abilities that I have. I've had great results creating/duplicating logos and stickers on my computer, and having the local sign shop cut them out of vinyl. You'd be suprised with what can be done.
If there's any interest in this let me know. Also, if there are any legal issues that anyone can think of please bring that up too. I'm not out to make a quick buck, (even though a trade may be nice -this stuff takes alot of time.) and I certainly don't want to infringe on anyone else's business and invite unwanted legal problems.
I just figured I'd throw it out there.

Sweat Hog,
I am not sure if the phone numbers or part numbers will do us any good or not (never tried calling them myself)
Apparently, those may be for "airplane people" only through a distributor... but the nice thing is, is that we now know this type of product is available.
At home depot the other month, I saw some self stick peices that were pretty big (more than 12" I think, some round, some square) in the sandpaper area... is used on the bottom of floor type orbital sanders.
A creative guy with a blade could make some pretty good use out of that stuff me thinks... HR

sweat hog: Yeah, I've made my mark in the past, but the ZooYork came as is. I think I'm using something called Wooster (brand) griptape, some have said that it's too grippy... I buy it by the roll at the Candy Store (read: skateboard wholesale warehouse).
The "Crop" Circle is an easy design to pull off actually. It starts out by drawing the outline of the deck on the grip's paper backing. Then you make a coil design* or two w/transition lines where the coils would meet. Try to maintain a consistent thickness on the design. Keep in mind that at some point you will have to extend the lines to where it would seem to return onto the deck from where the line ends at the edges. After you've made your simple design you first cut out the deck's outline (smaller though so it doesn't overlap the edges). Then you simply cut out the coil(s). Now depending on how thick you want your coils and the spaces in between; just "crop" out a consistent strip off one side of the coil(s) you just made. The trickiest part to any tape job is the application of it to the deck. It's always good to lay it out to check the spacing and placement before peeling off the backing. Then when you are pretty sure that the proportions are correct; start by peeling only the first ring or two of the inner most part a coil and start "winding" (laying) it down carefully so that you have some consistency in your spacing. -good luck

sweat hog asked: how do i cut grip like that?!?
If you don't have access to a quality co2 or water laser you still have a couple of options... You can use a pair of scissors: just keep filing the cutting edges flat to keep them sharp. If you want to use a razor: lay your grip (grit facing down) on a piece of scrap rug so that you pass through the griptape easily w/o harming your cutting surface.
Some simple rules to complex tape design is: 1) Don't leave too large of a negative (open) space on the design. 2) If you want to use sharp corners it is good to have that corner end very near another line edge so that it isn't vulnerable to peeling. 3) To some certain extent you can stretch or squeeze tape to conform to certain dimentions. 4) A heat gun can fix some areas of lifting and a pin will solve some of the bubbling if any.
All of the designs on Hugh's site were cut by hand (the laser seems to burn the tape beyond recognition). They are entitled as follows: Vines (on a Cruise Missile), Bamboo (on a No Ka Oi), logo (Indiana), logo (Lib Tech, notice the LT), "Crop" Circls (ICK Stick) and the Zoo York IX XI Homage (ZooYork).

Thanks for posting those shots Hugh! The custom grafiti deck was the inspiration dubbed the "ZooYork IX XI Homage". I wanted to depict the World Trade Center disaster of 9/11 with out being too graphic so I stylized the effect with an Escher-esque quality. I hope you like it.

While I still have not aquired 4 appropriate trucks for this board, I have decided what I am going to complete it as... (drum roll...)
A monster board 8 wheeler... I have 8 XT dirt wheels that I'll throw on there as soon as I come across 4 trucks... maybe indy 101's or some sort of invader (something inexpensive and strong)
Hopefully I'll get off my duff one of these days and start working on my site!
I did finally get my new fiberflex pintail taped, so a review of that is forth coming... HR

Hi, I'll say it again; get yourself down to the local Home Depot, Canadian Tire (where I went), or lumber/building supply place. You've never seen so much mounting hardware to choose from (minus the neoprene washers which you'd probably find in the plumbing section?) and for a _fraction_ of the cost. I couldn't believe the difference. Anyway, I realize you tried the local hardware store, but I'm sure somebody in town has some nuts and bolts? MH

Does anyone know where to get griptape wider then 9" and cut by the foot? Solidskate sells tape 9" wide. BeerCity I believe sells tape only long enough to cover a shortboard. I've found no valuable leads in the archives.....have I been coerced into a life with undersized griptape?

I know I'm an old school when it comes to skateboarding but damn I'm not ready for a coffin. Go check the web page now before it is too late, if you know what I mean.
