Turner Summer Ski Mounting
On 11/17/2001 C-Money wrote in from (64.12.nnn.nnn)

Again, my knuckleheads-in-crime have shown me an interesting way to set up a precious commodity like the turner. They got these little plastic washers (like and electrical grommet or something, but really thin) that fit a #10 bolt very nice, these are the bottom washer, then sometimes they use a thin metal washer on top of that, then a flat-bottomed bolt. You can tighten them as much as necessary (though you're right, not too tight-ever!) and they don't hurt the finish even.

Coneheads
On 11/17/2001 C-Money wrote in from (64.12.nnn.nnn)

I bought some cones from stevem or psycholloyd (can't remember who actually cut 'em), I have 30-which is plenty to practice on alone, and we have over 100 between all the Chicago-land knuckleheads for setting long and/or dual course sessions.

One thing that's important-and alan or steve (or one of the other smart people on this forum) would have to explain it, but you need to have a hole in the top of your cones. It has something to do with the vacuum created by going around the cone, if it's not got a hole on top to equalize the pressure, the cones can scoot around on you as you go around them.

The ones I got are nice and solid, but the bases were cut from them so they're just perfect.

...just wondering.

How many cone do you have in your quiver? I realize that some of you just use what is there, what was brought by others, but curious for those of you who own a stack, how many do you own?

I have 80. I made them from "Soccer Cones" by trimming the base. 9" tall, flo orange and cheap at .99 cents each.

Just wondering.

Turner Summer Ski Stuff...
On 11/16/2001 adam t wrote in from (208.203.nnn.nnn)

Greetings,

I've owned some Turners over the years and have not settled in on a good truck mounting system, or a nose bumper.

Mounting hardware: What I use now is some sort of variation of a hex head bolt with a washer under the head and washer/nylock on the truck side. I've tried a rubber washer under the hex head washer for dampening, tried those "button head" allen bolts and well, I'de like to hear what you use.

I think the most important thing is to distribute the pressure over a large washer, not tightening down too much but enough to not have the base plates move. I've seen a couple of boards nearly ruined by countersunk screws and
overtightening.

Nose Bumper: I don't use one, most of the roads I ride do not have curbs and the board usually "rides out" or flips over in the scruff when separation occurs. [ouch!]

One of my used boards came with a sort of thick blue vinyl molding on the nose, pretty cool but I took it off to restore the nose shatter underneath and got lazy, left it off. Nose Guards, surfboard nose bumper looks good, but would take some "crafting" to get it to fit well.

Any of you have any slik methods for the two posted ???

Thanks for your time,

adam t

A good stateside source of wedges online is here in the 'links' , Solidskate.com/ . Longskate.com/ also has some(Tracker,I think),and the thin Cell Block(stackable,3/16",5* of angle) ones can be found at TahoeLongboards.com/ .A European site that has a large variety is Summit(again, all these are in the 'links' page),with wedges up to 11* (slalom use, mostly).

I have been in contact with some German guys who have another very cool hybrid steering deck that they have developed...

I am hoping to get permission to post some pics up real soon. I know that this is a premature post, but I had to tell someone something!

Although BMW service sucks, it does appear as if their ideas are sparking thoughts for new ways of doing things! HR

roger, thanks for the ideas on what to tell people when they ask what tricks I do on my longboard. i never can answer that question "what tricks can you do on that thing?" because going down a hill really fast is'nt really a trick in most new-schoolers minds. the funniest question i got asked was on the bus going home, i had my RIII with me and this man asked if I was in the X-games........

I to get a kick out of it, This past weekend Iwas at a wedding (wife and all three daughters ) were in it. Afterwards I was in the parking lot with my tail gate open ,When the band saw some skateboards in there. They said wow!! Those are different! "I've still got my Logan Earthski w/ trckers and rr 4's in my garage, I produced a fibreflex slalom and told him it too was from the 70's, I asked if he'd like to try it he said sure! He instantly attempted to kick turn it and said it needed a bigger kick tail! 5 minutes later I had two 40 year olders trying to pump a slalom deck in tuxedos!!! hehe

Carbon Fiber?
On 11/6/2001 Andrew Berwald wrote in from (208.21.nnn.nnn)

I used to make my boards out of wood and kevlar, but it got boring so i'm looking for new materials to use. Does anyone know if carbon fiber is good for boardmaking? Or of any other good materials?

Thanks,
Andrew Berwald

"what tricks ..."
On 11/5/2001 roger wrote in from (66.51.nnn.nnn)

Whenever a kid asks what tricks I can do on "that" board. I respond with "pass cars down steep hills" or just simply "50mph", that one usually throws them back.

Our skating styles are so different, I make every effort to keep my wheels on the ground, they make every effort to get their wheels as far away from the ground as possible.

I love to trade boards, do a 360 on theirs and watch them try to ride mine, "wow, these wheels are smooth"

Vew-Do
On 11/5/2001 PSR wrote in from (209.198.nnn.nnn)

Trust me on this one,you can definately ollie, kickflip, and heelflip Vew-Do balance boards. There are a few locals that can 'walk-the-dog' right down the sidewalk.Del Hawbarker can do transfers from one Rock onto another, throwing in a 360' heelflip in the process. But the Real Challenge is not spilling your 4th(or 9th)beer while shooting darts, and staying balanced--of course, the wall near the dartboard suffers...

Kick-flipping an Indo balance board? I'd have to see that to believe it.

Have you ever let some kid try out your longboard, and the first thing they
do is try to ollie or kick-flip it? It's almost irritating - the 'herd'
mentality of it. Brings to mind the "thinking out of the box" seminars that
come around at work: do any of you young skaters know what 'style' means?
Anyone? (that's what I thought)

Indo Balance boards
On 11/2/2001 PSR wrote in from (209.198.nnn.nnn)

I don't like the Indo when compared to Vew-do's Indy or Zippy (they make Jr. and Longboard Balance boards too!),as the 'rock'(that's the center roller thingie)isn't setup as well, and I like the twin-kick concave feel of the Vew-do much better than the flat Indo. However,as 'carpet surfing' goes, the balance board works great to improve balance(Duh!),agility, spin awareness, and can lead to an exciting way to drink beers and play darts!

Indo balance board
On 11/2/2001 Mark wrote in from (199.46.nnn.nnn)

If past experience is any indication of future events, the use of this apparatus will either help your skating or cause you some sort of injury.
If possible, 'try before you buy' on this one. I have spent some time on an Indo board, and they are intended to help develop your balance.
The thing is, if your balance isn't pretty good to start with, you'll find yourself feet over head, the Indo deck launching out away from you
(no doubt headed for something expensive or fragile), and wishing you had set up the camcorder so you could rewind and actually see what happened.
Start slowly, and make sure you hide it from yourself when drinking alcohol with your buddies!

I have a little problem I would like to get several sets of silver mounting screws for my vintage boards, but I live in France, and here I could only get "METRIC" screws.
If somebody have an idea, plese help me to keep my vintage boards in a real vintage look.
