In the five years or so I have known Cliff, I have never heard anyone have a bad word about him. And now this guy emerges talking trash? Cliff, you must have achieved that status of celebrity that engenders huge jealousy or something.
It sounds like sliding is starting to come of age. Congrats to Cliff and all those that pioneered it.

I feel privileged.... I just finished skating behind the shop with Bruce Logan and Dave Hackett about 20 minutes ago... Skateboarding has allowed me to meet many, many people, legends included.... I have seen many come, and many go.... Sometimes when I sit down and think about it, I can't even begin to digest it all... It's like a lifelong dream of mine (bigger than a dream, really)... It actually puts a lump in my throat. The feeling is amazing.
So when I sit down and think long and hard about all the people that I've been fortunate enough to meet, and actually befriend.... Cliff Coleman is at the top of the list of the most sincere, solid, caring persons that I have ever met in my life, period.
I really don't know why someone would want to be mean or say mean things... all I do know is that I surround myself with nice people. And all I can hope for, is that they feel the same.....
Peace,
Michael Gravity Skateboards

Cliff... As always, you're calm reflection and enthusiasm is what always separates you from the confused masses. (So does this mean I have to grow another goatee? Hmmm.... )

Bausch,
I don't recall anytime hitting the bong on the side of the road with children present. I do have a medical prescription and medicate when necessary. Sorry you don't agree.
As for retirement, Yes I am old, 56. I'm not too old to win the "B" Group World Title for Super Giant Slalom though. I was weeks shy of my 55th birthday when I won that event. No one in history has matched my accomplishments racing after the age of 50. Yes my slides are old and outdated. I don't care. Every time I ride my skateboard I end up with a huge smile on my face. If it's not enough for you, remember it is enough to satisfy me. You should know how much respect I have for todays current group of great sliders! They are much better than me. My hat is off to them all! This includes sliders from around the globe. England, Brazil, Canada, Europe, the US, etc, etc.
You say I should ride longer boards and softer wheels, I rode the wheels that matched the situation. It was a hard wheel day, with trick slides being the norm. I even pulled off a few 360 slides myself. However, here in Berkeley I ride much softer wheels and travel for miles daily. My favorite wheel at the moment for these long rides is the Sector Nine 69mm 75a wheel. There are two styles of sliding. Soft wheel sliding and hard wheel sliding. Both are valid and neither is better. It only depends on the riders choice.
You say Gravity Sucks? Why did you come to an event that they promote if you feel that way? You also aren't aware that I don't ride for Gravity. They are a good group of people. I wish them the best and look forward to working with them again. I will in the future be a "Cliffslider" through and through for your information.
About my beard, I often change my look and find it fun. I'm sorry my looks offend you. At the moment, I have a goatee. I won't ask you if that is ok or not.
Bausch, most importantly, Keep posting what you think is important. I don't want anyone to lose, or not use their freedom of speech. I have absolutely no hard feelings. Next time lets just skate together.
About the Longest Slide Contest. The contest in Canada was won with what was then legal Pendulum slides. The problem is that between 180s, the wheels point downhill and give the rider an unfair advantage over those who just cross it up and drift. I myself after the contest, realized that in the future we will have to either allow all types of slides and then measure, or have it only squared up slides that count. Or have two longest slide contests with seperate rules. That will not happen because of time constraints. About Hackett's comments regarding the longest slide, he didn't understand fully why the slides were being called at the shorter markds. He is unaware of what is going on in the other contests around the globe with longest slide events. In Brazil, they only have the riders cross it up and other slides don't count. I only have respect for Hackett for his help at the contest and for his awesome skateboarding skill. I do hope you saw Hackett rip it up on his first try at sliding with slider gloves? He is a natural!
You may also like to know that I'm not interested in being a role model. I have donated time to these organizations however, The Special Olympics, The Make A Wish Foundation, Little League of America, The Sickle Cell Anemia Disease Research Foundation and the City of Berkeley, where I worked pro-bono to teach Skateboard Safety and to consult with them on the issue. The volunteer list continues if you wish to know more about my charity work. I don't do it because I want to be a role model. I do it because it makes me feel good.
Bausch, remember, no hard feelings and let's skate next time if you might be interested?
Sincerely, Cliff Coleman
Cliff Coleman

Anyone giving Cliff Coleman a hard time has there head so far up there ass it amazes me. How did you get it up there so far, it is probably why you have no clue as how the judging of the longest slide was judged, you are such a worthless piece of crap that i hope you never come to another contest again! We are skateboarders and we never change, we stay young and have fun, go back to your s#@!y life and grow old, and stay away from us we don’t want your crap! P.S Smoke a fatty for cliff amen!

why say? "Cliff is a blast to skate with and he is a strong voice of reason with regard to safety, and public perception of what we do. " its interesting to see cliff the patron saint, judge and menter of young men and woman, at the skate compition, smoking a waterpipe, on the side of the road in full public view, with teenagers, i find it discourging, to see a man of cliff's reputation conducting himself in such a manner.

I read that as an attack on someone being old with your retarded beard comment.
Maybe you should have just said it the way you meant it first, you know, like he screwed up the longest slide judging?

Baush... Besides the facts described below by Ben, Cliff is a blast to skate with and he is a strong voice of reason with regard to safety, and public perception of what we do. So many people ride with Cliff every day, on great hills, having an awesome time. Retire from what? The acts that make Cliff vital, fun, and healthy? Get a grip dude... what will you be doing when you're 55? Sitting behind a desk getting fat! Get a brain...

Obviously you have never met the great man himself. He is a great teacher, and still i am yet to see a more stylish coleman slide at 35+mph round a cright hand bend. And bausch how many slides do you have named after you? none! oh what a surprise. and having seen Cliff skate in general he can ride anything you want to throw at him, slalom, slide, park, freestyle, u name it. Do us all a favour and just leave this board alone.

I made some gloves from Chaput's recipe... they work well, but you might like to add finger pucks.
The fingertips on mine are all covered with duct tape to hide the holes, but they still work well.
