I'll be 39 tomorrow (again, for the 13th time).
The shoulder is about 70% healed (range of motion), but might need another operation. I find out on Jan 20th ....
In other good news -- the (fairly substantiated) rumor at work is that our big project will be cancelled soon and most of us in the group will be laid off.
I thought 2008 sucked ..... 2009 is looking worse.
At least the roads are now dry and I should be skating tomorrow..

Hey, I finally got out and ran cones yesterday morning out in the sun before going to work. It was still pretty dang cold and slightly below freezing at the start at 9am but warmed up in the sun to a balmy 30-something by the time I left. Geeze did it feel good to skate and slalom. I still have no real fire or speed but that's because I forgot to get my mojo back from Stryker and Jackmann that I loaned them for that race back east they went to. Or maybe it's because I did my workout and my legs hadn't recovered, or something completely different. Whatever, I was so stoked, sun, skating, cold air and sun like back in Wyoming again, sorta kinda but not really.
Dang it was cold at first, as I left the house, the birdbath was frozen solid so I took off the top, put it in the sun leaning against my truck, came back from skating and got the ice-ring out, filled the birdbath with warm-ish water and immediatly chick-a-dees perched on the dead sunflowers while I was right there then once I got about 10 feet away they started to land on the birdbath and drink, They were stoked.

all this does bode well for the coming year, it's gotta get better, right!!

I dislocated my shoulder getting out of the back of my truck yesterday, I don't know if that counts. Does that count?
Finally I got to go skate with Ron on Monday at Newport and Lincoln City at the coast and get some sun and eat smoked salmon whilst Corvallis stayed foggy all the day long. I really am not "into" driving that far to go skate parks but the Sun and Salmon and beachside lunch were welcome.

"My" Event in Salem in March/April and Leaf Blowers/Brooms and PAT
|
On 11/22/2008 Paul

Hey, Here's the deal, the Salem Soap Box Derby CAR club won't be having a race in Salem until the end of March 2009, which typically means the hill will likely be a leaf, acorn and twig covered mess until then unless a LOT of people show up to our race early with a LOT of brooms or multible leaf blowers. If my memory serves me correctly, a number of our March events have been postponed to April anyway.
So, I'm tentatively scheduling my race for the first Sunday in April, which will likely be better weather anyways but who knows on that issue. If I become convinced that hill-cleanliness is achieveable in March and the weather might work, I'll change it to March.
PAT - Since you agreed to put on and event in april and I don't want to have too much too soon too close in time and space, let me know what effect this has on your plans, or we could collaboratively both put something on.
Thanks - P

Steps to get ISSA points for races

On 11/8/2008

(24.21.nnn.nnn)
Step 1: Decide what race status you desire for the race. I suggest that most of our races be BASIC status.
Step 2: In the slalomskateboarder.com website, anounce the race at least one month in advance, do it on the "2009 Calendar" (does not exist yet, see 2008 calendar as an example).
Step 3: (optional, but recommended) Post on NCDSA calendar
Step 4: Run the race according to ISSA rules. If you plan to deviate from the rules, list those deviations in the contest anouncements (steps 2 and 3) For example -- most races to be run push-start and not ramp-start.
Step 5: Email your race results with full names of participants (e.g. "Paul Howard" -- not "pauliwog") Email to corkyswe@yahoo.com Please include the race status (BASIC), date and location of race, and what type of race (GS, Hybrid, tight, etc)
If you have decided in step 1 to have a race of higher status (e.g. Oregon State Games is PRIME status, Hood River has been MAJOR or MAIN status), then you need to fill in an application form and take other steps. I can guide you through this process.
