A good Start would be to go to Sk8kings.com they have all the parts you need or They sell race ready completes.Startng at around $170 I think.Deck: a good all around deck would be an Axe 2.5 "Skully" model or an AXE III.Trucks:The Bennett 4.3 would be ok for a front truck not a back. a Tracker RT/S for a beginner set-up. Wheels : I'd go with Retro 70mm limes (80a) they're a good all around wheel. Wedging : Get a khiro wedge kit. You'll want 15 degrees in the front and 20-23 degrees in the back. You will need long hardware.4-3" and 4- 1 1/4". Hope that helps. You can email me if you want for more info. gosk8racergo(at)yahoo(dot)com See Ya. John

Sunday, October 4th. 11AMThe hill is not being used by the soap box derby. The weather looks good enough. Those who show up, skate a bit. Those who don't, don't.If there is lots of interest, we'll set up timer and race.Bring your cones and boards. Call your friends. Let's do it.PS: Last weekend and Oct 11th are booked for Salem. -- Pat

looking for recommendations for a slalom setup

Heyso I've been putting it off for a while but I want to get myself a proper slalom setup. I have messed around at a couple of events and found that my turniest board (Loaded Pintail) doesn't cut it for anything but the loosest course. I've tried others' slalom boards at events but as they're not set up for my skinny ass they never feel right.Coming from a longboard background I'm a bit clueless as to what's a reasonably priced versatile board. from what I've seen it looks like slaolom gear can get expensive very quickly.- Wheels: already got some, in the 66mm to 70 mm range, what works best?- Trucks: Bennet 4.3 + RT/X or RT/S + RT/X. already got a pair of bennets on my mini- Deck: what's a versatile wheelbase? I know ppl have differnt setups for different styles of slalom but I want one that can do everything decently.- How much wedging?Alternatively if anyone local around Seattle has a setup they're looking to offload I'd be interested in hearing about it too.CheersJon

Hey Paul!Speaking of bigfoot sightings...I haven't seen you in a great while! The 4th event went well, no body died. I did only get 17 kids for the event. Should be better next time. There were a lot of kids who came to see what it was all about. Looks like there will be a lot more next time. Lots of great freebies always peaks their interest!DAB

Hey, I don't see myself putting a BBQ on this fall just because of too many irons-in-the-fire at the moment and working at my 2nd job most of my days-off from my main job in October. Pat called me and wants to put on some sort of slalomy sorta get-together thing in Salem for the fall, he thought about it for this weekend but the Salem hill is being used for a SBD car race.Adios - Paul

Steve- There's a guy named Dave Anderson that owns/builds Morningwood skateboards in Medford but he's more of a downhiller. He and a bunch of guys showed up to one slalom event years ago in Salem then we've never seen them again. I'd ask around the skateshops and the skatepark but I haven't heard of any real activity in Medford. Tay Hunt and Shane Coquiel(sp?) live somewhere west of there closer to Coos Bay, Tay is pro-level and slaloms to some extent but he's sorta hard to get a confirmed visual sighting on sometimes, kinda like Big-Foot. Same thing really.Dave - Hey! We need to hook up sometime! Hopefully your skatepark contest July 4th went well. Adios- Paul

Steve,I live in Winston, near Roseburg. It's about 90 miles north of Medford. The next closest I know of is Paul (iewog) in Corvallis. He's another 130 miles or so north of me. Hooowww ever, the North West bunch is a great bunch! And there are regular events in Salem that ROCK!David Baker

Thank you Skip for running the slalom race. It looked pretty bleak in the morning with the rain and mist, but patience paid off.
Thanks also to Judy for organizing the weekend's events!
Where will CSA be racing in September?

Thank you Pat for being my information officer. Someone has to do it.
I posted the race in Contest Calender. I hope it answer any further questions anyone may have. There is also info about the weekend at pdxdownhill DOT com (check out some of there killer videos while you're there) or Ripcityskate DOT com. If not, you can post them here or contact me directly with the "emaily thingy" above.
I'm hoping for a nice, mellow race that is open to all. No points, No prize purse, No attitudes. Hopefully we'll have a good turnout of local skaters open to something new. There will be a bunch of out of town DHers in town early for the Maryhill race the following week. So the Sunday race will be pretty stacked. This is going to be a fun weekend. Bring your tent and stay awhile
I look forward to seeing the Moys and the rest of the CSA crew.

I talked with Skip and he said it is going to be dual lane, ladder-bracket.
Not duel lane -- that's what we do in slalomcross.

That was SOOOO much more fun than I thought it would be, it was a better vibe than the other 2 worlds I've been too and other "big" races. Good times, thanks everyone, that was a good time and made me realize racing can, in theory, be fun, not as fun as a BBQ but still fun none-the-less. -P
